Lenovo Vibe X2 5" Android Phone - $197USD Shipped

110
2015PWSPRING

I've been looking for a decent specced dual sim android phone and I came across this. I've always been fond of the Meizu MX4 but it isn't dual sim. This phone has the same chipset albeit the slightly underclocked version.

Key specs:
5" FHD Screen
MTK6595m SoC (2.0 GHz x 4 Cortex A17 + 1.7 GHz x 4 Cortex A7)
2GB RAM
32ROM
4G+3G Network Bands
Unique Design (There's a fruiter looking orange one available too)
Android 4.4
2300mAh Battery
Average Camera (According to the reviews I've read)

Please note the discount with the coupon decrease by 1 USD each day.

I personally think this is a better choice of chipset over the current 64Bit line of mediatek chips that are currently coming out at around the same price. Nothing really capitalises on the 64bit change and the Cortex A53s are only incrementally more powerful than the A7s they replace and in terms of sheer performance still can't compare to the A15/A17s.

Excuse the lack of detail I'm typing this on my phone off the top of my head and I can't double check it myself without this damn Nokia 530 running out of RAM and clearing the page cache. I'll fix it later when I wake up.

  • Battery is pretty ordinary compared with others in its class.

That's a great price for a fairly great phone. Design looks gorgeous, screen is almost perfect (I personally find 5.2" 1080p perfect) and SOC is actually decently powerful. Storage is also great at this price. I would definitely consider if looking at something like a Moto G (2014)

this would be fantastic deal if our currency was better, still good as it stands.

I'm hanging out for the Zenfone 2

    • Check Jiayu s3 and Elephone p7000. Pretty decent as well.

      • Neither have 850MHz 3G if I remember correctly.

    • +1

Just saw that Zenfone 2 prices have been released..
The cheap model is cheap on specs.. no better than this or a number of other options.
The desirable model is in the $400 range

  • It must be an error in the weight….400g+????

    • must be…
      Net Weight(Including battery) 120g

  • Might want to read the supported frequencies before you buy. This won't be good for Telstra NextG 850mhz users as it's not supported.

    3G: WCDMA B1/B2/B5(2100/900/1700MHz)
    TD-SCDMA B34/B39
    4G: FDD-LTE B3/B7

    • So what bands do these cover: 4G: FDD-LTE B3/B7

      LTE 850/900/1900/2100/2500/2600 (FDD/TDD) ????

  • +2

might wanna add FREE Adware in the features

    • Maybe if it was a Windows device.. (I presume that's where you're going?)
Having said that, there's a half chance it'll have adware anyway.

  • anyone know if it comes with google playstore installed.?

    • It does

  • good price for a decent high end device, now only if our dollars were stronger!

I'm also interested in something like a 5.5" FHD version of such a phone.
Gizchina.com is a good resource to find news of new china phones like the Lenovo and the China-specific brands.

I'm leaning toward the Meizu N1 Note but thre are a lot of similar phones out there.

The Zenfone 2 5.5" is looking good as is the Jaiyu S3, Elephone 7000 etc - but issues with some of these phones include:
    - possible lack of updates to Lollipop 5.0 & beyond
    - lack of support for Telstra HSDPA 850 band -depending on model
    - lack of support of certain FDD LTE bands we might wish to use here or overseas.

I'd wait a bit longer since there will likely be more models announced from various companies between now and the MWC conference in early March.

There have been some other china phone deals on OzBargain recently - the best ones can be the coupon codes sometimes offered for 100 phone sales.

    • possible lack of updates to Lollipop 5.0

Personally this doesn't concern me nearly as much as it used to.
Google rolls out most important software updates with Play Services these days.
and Beyond, you'll be buying a new handset anyway.. isn't that the whole point of buying a cheap handset?

The article is about laptops but I won't trust the company anymore.

    • Wow, so we should extrapolate therefore that all Apple products feed Chinese children poisonous chemicals, and every Sony Phone catches fire?

      • Ahh, but those companies weren't exploiting the end consumer, so the above arguments aren't in the same context.

The point he was trying to drive was that Lenovo exploited the consumer by putting adware on their machines to generate some advertising $$$, without the customer consenting to it and without the customer knowing.

        • How the hell are you spinning exploitation as worse than poising or burning people?

        • That's because the intention in this case was done with malicious intent — Lenovo knew what they were doing when they preloaded the machines their own signed root certificate.

The examples you gave were more of industrial accidents / incidents, while people were harmed in the process, it was not done intentionally. Besides, what sort of company would want to ruin their reputation by making a phone or laptop go up in flames when used?

Apple products feed Chinese children poisonous chemicals

Apple doesn't produce any hardware. Foxconn does. Lax regulations/safety procedures and cost-cutting in China is what allowed this to happen. The media would have you believe that Apple is a big evil megacorporation that would intentionally poison their workers (is the way you put it) but what really happened was the classic case of the auditors not paying enough attention with the working conditions in the plant and the lack of safety protocols in the assembly line.

There were loads of cases like this: see also Samsung factory workers in Korea and the Radium Girls incident.

  • Super fish!

  • So is it better to buy this high-end 32bit SoC or get the 64 bit mid-range 6752 SoC as it takes advantage of Lollipop?

    • +2

I don't think that Lollipop does "take advantage" of 64bit..
Maybe it's different in ARM land (I doubt it), but with x86 Desktop CPUs, there's not much benefit to 64 bit apart from more addressable memory. Since 99% of phones (and probably 100% mid range phones) don't have 4Gb RAM, The fastest CPU will still revolve around design and Cycle speed both of which the High End 32bit is still the king.
Then again, SoC CPU speeds are now, like desktop CPU's, almost so fast it doesn't make any difference unless you need CPU performance for Gaming or some other CPU intensive task like Video/Photo Editing. For a Social Networking and Phone Calls Device any of the Modern CPU's will be plenty quick enough.
