Literally, just got off a Jetstar HNL-SYD flight today. SYD-HNL on an A330 Business Class and HNL-SYD is on the new B787 Economy Class.

Highly recommend anyone taking this offer to make sure you're on a B787 flight.

If you take the A330 flight, it'll be like taken back in time to the 1990s. That's right. Everything inside an Jetstar A330 is taken from decommissioned planes of the 1990s. The Business Class doesn't even have individual IFE. Instead, you're given a bulky iPad with a large external battery. Jetstar's Business Class is a complete rip-off. I've flown Business Class and I've flown Premium Economy before. And all I can say is this: Jetstar's Business Class is BELOW any Premium Economy flights I've been on.

B787 has individual IFE and the seats (including Economy Class) are more confortable.

    • I got home from Hawaii on the 10th. Flew economy both ways.

No entertainment whatsoever. Was expecting tvs in the headrests since it's an international flight and all. But nothing. You can pay for the $10 android which actually does last a while as I was sometimes watching whatever the lady in front of me was doing. Leg room was ok. Could stretch out a little bit but not much.

So either drown yourself in sleeping pills or bring a book/laptop/whatever to entertain yourself for the nice 9-10 hour flight.

Since it's only $300 I suppose you get what you paid for. I bought these flights back in September or something last year when they had the specials advertising their new dream liner planes (which I was excited to go on).

Also you get to walk a nice kilometre when you land because jetstar has gate number 40+ which is a decent walk from the entrance of the airport.

      • Im flying out on Wednesday to HON, Dreamliner both ways.

How was the meals and I believe all seats have monitors, so that means forgoing the ipads right? Is there any basic entertainment in those screens before you have to drop in $10?

        • +4

I've flown Dreamliner to Japan with Jetstar.

Need to pre-order actual airline meals (I didn't) and there is also an in-flight menu with a nice range of things like tim tams, cup noodles, pies, chips etc. Could be different going to HON but check this link out: http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/what-we-offer/in-flight/food-an….

Every seat has at least a 9.5" (or was it 10.5") screen in front of it. The only free things were a flight map and a couple fishing shows at the time. I highly recommend that you pay the extra fee for the entertainment unless you will be sleeping or keeping yourself busy somehow. Paying the fee, you will get games (like blackjack, some space fps, settlers), >5 decent movies and tv shows (only the first 3 episodes for each series it seemed). Oh, there's free radio too I think. There was also a function to read media off of your usb but I never knew before I boarded. Also, you can charge your phone or whatever off this. I tried connecting my android phone to play a movie I had downloaded before the return flight but it didn't work. You can access this USB function without paying for the entertainment so maybe bring multiple differently formatted usbs or something and hope one works.

EDIT: In fact, here's a photo I got of it because I thought it was great. This aircraft was definitely the best I've ever been in, but then again I haven't flown international for a few years before this.

In the top left are the power button (to turn screen on/off), request attention button and the above light button. Also I know they supply those airline adapters with the earphones (in-ear) and they give one to everyone free of charge.

          EDIT 2: Here's another picture: http://imgur.com/2u1cuM3

This here, I loved it. Instead of shutters, the windows are electronically dimmed by the button below. It doesn't go completely black but it gets quite dark which was enough.

        • @JohJoh:

Thanks for that! Looks good, now to down load some movies!

Regarding your Android phone, did you set the USB function to Disk Drive mode? Then it may have worked?

        • @JohJoh:

I forgot to ask, was there any indication of what video formats it will play off USB?

        • @GLO: No indication there, possibly you could find online somehow?

        • @GLO: I tried both the camera mode and the data mode which show up in the notifications when connected to USB, neither showed any files or folders.

A quick google and there seems to be some talk about the USB function, maybe someone's found a solution.

    • Jetstar have only just started operating their new Dreamliner 787-800 on HNL route, The sooner they give back all the A330-200's to Qantas the better!

But JQ is a low cost carrier so you get what you pay for. JQ Long Haul will be an all Dream Liner 787 Fleet by September 2015.

    • I got offered a $300 upgrade to Jetstar Business but also hear it wasnt worth it! (basically doubling the cost of that sector)

Did you happen to find out whether it was better to change money in Aus or in Hawaii?

      • +1

I got offered a $300 upgrade to Jetstar Business but also hear it wasnt worth it! (basically doubling the cost of that sector)

Depends on the aircraft. It is NOT WORTH the upgrade (to Business Class) if you're flying A330. If you've got the B787, then it's worth every minute of it.

The biggest difference is the free amenities you get: IFE is free, drinks are free (but you need to keep pestering the Flight Attendants or they'll just go hide in the back after the mandatory services are finish).

Another thing, just because the alcohol is free in Business Class doesn't mean their services are good too. I flew to HNL on 10 February 2015 (A330) and these are the "services" I got:

        1. I ordered Scotch for my pre-meal drinks and it arrived 30 minutes later (after the meal were served) as Scotch-with-Soda.
        2. After my meal, I asked for dark/black coffee and it arrived 20 minutes later as coffee with milk.
        3. I asked for extra bread roll (because one just wasn't enough) … it never arrived.

Sure, for Business Class (on an A330) you get metal cutlery but their services is no different to Economy. The seats on Business Class may have extra legroom but flying to SYD-HNL is an overnight flight and the seats were just too cramp and uncomfortable. Only had about 1 hour worth of sleep. Can't get alcohol any more to knock me out because the flight attendants were all hiding in the back and refused to appear. I had the attendant button on for about 30 minutes and just turned it off in disgust.

Have flown Premium Economy with Air New Zealand (SYD-AKL-LAX) and boy they were good!

Just an FYI for everyone else, Hawaiian Air is about to launch a Premium Economy service. First flight will be on 15 March 2015. So this will definitely compete with Jetstar's "Business Class" ripoff. The price difference between Hawaiian Air's Economy and Premium Economy (SYD-HNL) is US$100 per person.

      • how did you get offered a upgrade? did they just randomly contact you?

        • how did you get offered a upgrade? did they just randomly contact you

Jetstar will randomly email you a few weeks before the flight. Because the B787 has lesser Business Class seats, the chance of one getting the email is a lot slimmer.

Keep an eye out for Hawaiian Air's Premium Economy. Launch date is 15 March 2015. The price difference between Hawaiian Air Economy Class and the new Premium Economy is US$100.

This might be a better option than Jetstar's sub-par Business Class. Even at a low price, Jetstar's Business Class is a strip-down & dumb-down Premium Economy. Services and amenities are really awful. May sound nice to brag about flying Business Class but I sure WOULD NOT recommend it.

Ok Jetstar but can you do BNE/LAX Qantas @ Christmas time? Ha! Didn't think so.

    • very last day for travel is 15DEC, so doesn't even get close to Xmas season.

As always read the fine print. They don't have these sales for school holiday travel.
