any in the blackout period so that travelwiz can shut up?

    • Ahhaha that dude(travelwiz) is so funny!

    • +2

Waiting him to post a better deal. Counter every USA bound deals please. By even $50

    • I only just read that Forum thread, I couldn't stop reading for some reason

    • of course not don't be silly.

    • +5

Umm, i think people still do, especially on this website, it's a BARGAIN website!!!

    • +4

Emirates and Etihad? Haha, have you been through DXB? They treat the poor Indians, etc like crap!

    • +3

invalidwithoutphoto Emirates and Etihad treats Indians, Pakistanis, Filipinos and other populations within that region much worst than Qantas.

      • +3

Singapore treat those people of those populations the same but no one speaks about them.

    • +1

I know people in Qantas and they're treated well, better conditions and maybe pay compared to Virgin.

never even considered it after they sacked all the maintenance engineers.

So who maintains the aircraft now??

      • -3

Malaysia, I think. Definitely majority of maintenance is off-shore.

        • QANTAS maintains all its domestic fleet in Australia. But if people like you fly other overseas carriers. That may end too. I bet you drive an imported car too. No wonder our county is loosing all manufacturing.

        • The majority of maintance is done here, only A380s and 747s are done overseas

    • You have to be kidding me right? QF staff are one of the highest paid in the industry and their EBA benefits are ridiculously beneficial in their favour.
QF didn't sack all the maintenance engineers… they consolidated them in Brisbane where all their 737 and A330 maintenance are done.

Line maintenance for the A380 is done in SYD and LAX with the major stuff for the A380 done by Lufthansa Technik in Manila. The 747s were maintained in AVV for heavy checks and SYD in addition to AVV did line maintenance before QF retired almost half of their 747s. The only reason the A380 and now the 747s are maintained offshore is because it would simply be financially stupid to do so when there are so little aircraft.

Can I book through Kiss Travel International?

    • -2

no we only book Xmas holidays these days from mid Dec on. These deals are not for peak season.

  • +1

Yet school holidays are still $2325. Wow.

  • -8

post is inaccurate its actually 1349$ to nyc return not 1350….hell its ozbargain every buck counts!

  • +3

Why is it 26 hours? Via somewhere else?

  • Seriously, do people still fly with airlines from UAE, given their poor human rights record?

    • +3

Some would argue Australia is just as bad historically..

Seriously, UAE have two of the best airlines worldwide.

      • +1

I love English people who point the finger at Australian's historical 'human rights record'

You would do well to remember that we were a British colony when the worst of these atrocities occurred, so maybe some introspection is in order.

unless of course you're referring to our more recent human rights record, which is our own shame to bear

At least ~11k QFF points for a QF Bronze.

    • sorry futaris, what's this relate to? 11K QFF points for what?

      • as in you will earn 11k points as a QF bronze member

    • -5

Please, dont start about QFF. You have to spend $12,000 on travel to get a $59 mel-syd free flight. A joke. I was a member for over 10 years, but no more.

      • +3

Uhhhh no you don't. This New York flight will give you at least 11k QFF points which is enough for mel-Syd flight or u can sell the points on Gumtree for about $120

      • +1

Even if that was close to true what's the problem? You spend as you would and you get something for free. How can it be bad?

        • Invalid's got an axe to grind with Qantas since they refused to bow to all his union comrades..

  • +3

nice price. good first post @mykii.

  • was able to achieve this price with 19th October to 7th November

  • Getting the following error
We are unable to find recommendations for your search

looking for Mel —> Orlndo —>Las Vegas —-> Mel around school holidays September

  • Just a shame that Aussie dollar is weak against US dollar now. Guess we OzBargainers just fly there, only eat bread and drink water and sleep in cardboard box, then fly back home again.

    • +1

Bud, at he current fx rate you'd still live well over there.

      • But we are OzBargainers here.

  • Cathay are ~1600 but actually have some July dates to-from SYD-LAX

  • +4

Re the comments about emirates etc treating minorities like sh***. I apologise. I did not know that. Next time I will reevaluate which airline to go with.

    • +1

You do realise most of Qantas's workers are based in Australia. The workers are heavily unionised though, but it means they get paid pretty good. Qantas posted a $2.8 billion lost last year so they're not exactly in the position to 'treat' their workers better

  • +3

Are the eggs they serve on the plane caged or free range?

    • +15

They are free range. They have they chooks flying on long leashes behind the plane, with baskets strapped to their arses. They reel them in just before brekky to collect the eggs. True story.

      • +1

        Best ozbargain response ever!!!

        • +1

        • Stay calm.

      • Flying chooks? wow!

      • didn't know eggs come from chook arses - learn new thing every day. BTW if they are on leashes, they can't be free-range.

  • Thanks OP.

The US is becoming a less popular destination with the exchange rate collapse over the past 6 months or so so expect to see a lot more sales like these this year.

    • That's true - so when I go to Applebees and order from their 2 for $20 special menu (TWO ENTRÉES + ONE APPETIZER):

      http://www.applebees.com/menu/2%20for%2020

      I'd be looking at paying:

      US$ 20 + sales tax(+/- 8%) + 15% tips = US$ 24.60 which equates to AU$ 31.41

That's pretty expensive for a 7-oz house sirloin and 2 entrees.

    • -3

some things are so cheap in USA like skiing, that exchange rate really doesn't come into it.

Sales are due to Feb being traditionally quiet, (people paying off Xmas) & confidence being low.

You won't see sales below $1700 to LAX fo departures from 16DEC til 10JAN.

      • when talking about cheap skiing, one rather go to NZ. Anyone who spend $2000+ on a crammed plane with 20+ hours of jet lag just to get the cheap skiing must have too much money to spend and doesn't even need to know about the word 'ozbargain'.

        • -2

there's no comparison between NZ & USA. USA on snow accom + skiing is 10 times better.

LA is 13 hours, but most families go for 3 + weeks & skiing for only week or 2 of that.

          Colorado is 2 hours further.

        • @travelwiz: nah, you're just bluffing yourself, only those who want to get last minute Xmas holiday are stupid enough to believe in your marketing hypes.

        • @lgacb08: we don't do last minute.

We can't get enough cheap seats for Xmas. We'll be sold out months before Xmas.
