Kathmandu Summit Membership - Free Until 01/03/2015

3170

Browsing and signed up given it's now free for everyone (I'm a student but you'd have to go instore to claim free membership via that method). I've never bought anything here but some Summit member sales seem ok.

Should be pretty straightforward to signup, my membership was active immediately.

Enjoy.

Ahh another deal for being a student whats the go here?

    • +4

No student ID needed, the promo was $10 off the regular price making it free for everyone. Just applied for one and got membership in <5 minutes.

  • Any use on sale items?

    • +12

Depends, sometimes they offer an additional 10% off sale items.

Keep in mind 30-50% off = regular everyday price.

      • They seem to always do an additional 20% off sale after the regular 50% sale now. They are headed for a half year loss in fy2015, so this is an exercise to get more foot/web traffic to their site.

  • Thanks for the free membership.

  • Thanks buddy

  • Cheers bruz

  • 10% of intrepid tours with this membership too

    • +9

      What about the other 90%?

      • That's where you've got to use your ING or ME bank card. I'm just not sure what a travel agent would think putting a $2000 your (say) through as 20 tap and go transactions of $99.99

        • The banks may not be happy either.

    • +4

      Off* ;)

Used 6 letter password and now works!

Hasn't it always been free? I got mine for free yonks ago, been sitting at the bottom of a drawer ever since.

    • The checkout staff used to give you one for free if the membership discount for your purchase worked out to be more than the cost of membership (it has been about $10 for years)

  • +15

Stuff from Kathmandu needs to be 50% off before it's even worth looking at.

    • +2

Totally agreed. If they are on 50% off, they end up at Kathmandu outlet, and membership card won't get any extra discount. Why bother get the membership card.

    • +3

      Couldn't agree more… sooo sooo.. overprice…. sigh

    • +1

      COMPLETELY agree.
These guys are on the top of my list for insane overpricing. After 50% off (minimum!) their prices are "normal" for what we consider excellent gear. We bought their brand hiking boots & a ton of THICK socks. The boots were a dream from the very first KM - like they were part of our natural feet. Walk over ANYTHING you want, and not feel it. Spent 4 weeks solid in them, trekking around South America (Machu Picchu etc.), and many local places once home again. I wear the socks everyday on construction sites (and sometimes weekends). MAGIC. The socks have lasted 2 years, which is 150+ wears based on how many I have in rotation. Quality boots & socks make a huge difference, when you're on-your-feet all day, unstable ground.

Kathmandu stuff is way too expensive…m not gona buy unless it is 40% off atleast

  • +1

I'd hit it at 30% off

Anyone willing to go to 20% off?

  • +10

Kathmandu, finally you can buy clothing so you can look like a middle aged German.

82 upvotes on a useless club that is free every two weeks.

    • +2

Really? I for one have never seen the club membership given out, and I've been on this site for years.

      • Of course the only place you can get a Kathmandu membership is on ozbargain……

Kathmandu are way overprice, they always have like 40% off sale and the RRP price are ridiculously expensive.

    • -1

      Same as thiefaconda

      • +2

Same as any other store in Australia, we always get ripped off at least 50% of overseas prices for almost all items. haha

  • +2

clearance prices are good but then you don't need the membership lol

    • +1

But they do have member only sales - usually 40% off all kathmandu branded gear - so membership does afford more opportunity to buy at ok-ish price.

      • Often it was for members only for the first week or few days then public sale. It gave members an opportunity before "everyone" else.

  • +1

Membership used to be a yearly subscription, now it's lifetime membership! I used to be a member years ago but stopped paying because it wasn't really worth it. From what I heard about 10 years ago the company got bought out by a Singaporean group and the prices went up and sales were less frequent (they used to have sales before most school holidays).

  • Do you know if all family members can use the one card or we have to get our own?

    • +1

When i've been there, nobody cares

Most Kathmandu specials are marked down from the factory, they are never sold at the non-discounted price. Reasonable quality but Sierra Trading Post or Level9 are usually better options.

I bought a Kathmandu goretex jacket 2nd hand and had a small problem with the velcro cuff fasteners after a couple of years, took it back, no receipt, but was fixed up no problem so the service needs to be factored in!

    • What did they do? I had a similar issue recently on a softshell jacket I have and just glued it back together.

      • pretty sure they just glued it back on. Took about 3 weeks to get it back but no biggie. If the goretex fails apparently gore will replace the whole jacket!

I'm not likely to go anywhere that requires special clothing or anywhere that exerts any energy to be honest, but hey! Free membership. I'm there. Thanks!

  • I do like the microfibre towels I got!!

  • Thanks OP.

I need a new backpack. Can anyone suggest one (with ventilation like this one http://i62.tinypic.com/34nrwwk.jpg)?

    • +1

Get exactly that - Blackwolfs are good bags (well mine have been)

      • I agree, I bought a Blackwolf Cedar Breaks a few years ago to travel through Asia. When I got back I used the detachable back pack when riding dirt bike off road or to work. They are quality products.

  • i had a free summit club membership when i was a student. never really used it except for advance notice of their bigger sales. their member mags were okay to flick through…some nice pics on those

  • Thanks OP :)

  • Thanks

  • Thanks OP - I now feel on top of the world!

  • Cool, just signed up. It's free, and maybe it'll one day come in useful.

  • Just signed up. Anyone knows if they send out physical membership cards in the mail?

    • in the past i.e. 10 years ago, they did. not sure if they do now

    • At the end of the sign up procedure online, they ask you if you'd like a card mailed out to you.

  • I joined on the website, Also you can ask new membership when visit store.

  • I had a membership that expired previously. When I went to sign up using this offer it said, from my email address that I was already registered. I rang their contact number the and the efficient customer service rep simply reactivated my account (yes, it doesn't expire anymore).

Can use old card (has same member number on it) and if you forget it/have lost it simply give them your email address at the checkout counter and they can look up your details for member deals/prices.

  • Do I need to eat Gorilla Poop?

    • yes. make sure you take a selfie while you do
