What is "prestigious " about Amex. They just sacked 800 jobs in Phoenix and moved them offshore.

Also they keep making these offers to Engineers Australis and to the Aust Computer Society as well as other organisations.

They just sacked 800 jobs in Phoenix and moved them offshore.

What does that have to do with the price of fish? It's irrelevant.

Provided your talking about Phoenix, AZ, I hate to burst your bubble but the jobs were already offshore (I.e. Not in Australia). One offshore city to another, what do you care?!

I believe OP's deal is pretty standard based on my own observation. They always either give bonus points or statement credit for new members.

It was better three/four years ago. I got $200 David Jones gift card when I signed up. It's a shame they stopped doing that.

Using the link, you can also get a Platinum Card for $950/year.

Just doing a rough calculation, value turns out to be:
    1) $300 - Return Domestic Flight (I would use this for times when there are no discounted flights - ie to Australian Open or Australia F1 Grand Prix)
    2) $300 - You get an additional return domestic flight if you get the Platinum Reserve Card (no annual fee when you get the Platinum Card
    3) $200 - One night free at Accor Hotels

So that's a total of $800, plus you get $200 travel credit, unlimited access to the Amex lounge in Sydney International Airport and priority pass lounges. Seems pretty good value

    • I think your double counting the Return Domestic Flight.

      • You get an additional free flight with the Platinum Reserve Card, which comes with no annual fee if you get the Platinum Card

        • Yes. That is the only free flight I am aware of.

        • @rob74:
Apologies - you are right - just double checked it's only one free flight

        • @fry888chip: I believe you can fly to NZ if you're in SYD and MEL, and Bali if you are in PER. Destinations are different from Platinum Edge card

  • So question, do I have to be a chartered accountant?

    • +2

      coughNOcough

      • what if you are doing the tests and not qualified yet? I guess not.

      • catch me if you can………… wink wink

    • Have to be enrolled in the program atleast.

    • As long as your a provisional member u can apply for this. At least that's my understanding

  • CPA 4 LIFE

  • These offers are always available, not as good as they used to be either.

  • I signed up to this card a couple years ago. In doing so I got a free Nescafe pod machine, a gold AMEX card as well as CA status.

    • Same here. Nespresso deal was awesome

  • So does this statement credit need to be declared as income?

    • +1

No. By that question I suspect your not a CA and not eligible.

Not saying that is a stupid question for a lay person, but it certainly would be for a CA.

  • Pardon me for asking this, how do i get around the fact that I'm not a CA to get this offer?
