Received an email from TID today for 10% off, expires 13th April 2015. I've never had to claim with them before but other people seem to think they're pretty good.

  i bought and claimed on TID 2 years ago, it was quite helpful then, but it all depends on:
  1. PDS
  2. emergency toll number: some other travel insurance provide local toll//emergency number which is handy, instead of calling back / reverse charge call to Sydney ( as for TID case). its better for you to call them during emergency to make sure all documents and procedures required acknowledge at the time.
  3. Excess you have to pay.
  3. how you claim them. TID online system seems to be good. just take photo with your smartphone and submit online.
  4. double check your home insurance, as you may have a "home and away" travel insurance included, so you could save money on your TI.

  1cover still comes in cheaper for me and offers generally higher coverage across most items including personal liability, disability/death, luggage, etc. Might be worth comparing before committing to this purely for the 10% discount. Also, keep an eye out for local emergency calll numbers. TID requires you to call a Sydney number.

    Call reverse charges via the local operator to avoid call costs.
