hmm all these deals are tempting but with the apple watch event next week, and the new pebble on the horizon - i don't think it's worth committing yet!

    • +1

kind of different, this is more for the sporty people, it has gps etc.
apple watch is for apple fan boys
      pebble for android fan boys

Oh no… I own a pebble and I am an apple fan boy..

kidding but you get my point right… rumours is apple watch will not has many health functions?

        • @erwinsie:
Yeah, apparently they could not get them to "Work" so they just "removed" them… meh

        • @erwinsie: The rumour was they originally intended to include more sensors, and dropped some during the R&D process, which is completely normal for any large project.

There's nothing to suggest the features that were actually announced last Oct/Nov have been dropped. Ones that have been cited as being dropped during development include mood sensors as well as sensors to assist diabetics and the like. Heart rate monitoring and the like is still there.

          @Smigit:

          mood sensors

A mood sensor for Apple users, so it will only have two readouts which says: Condescending, or Arrogant and the needle will go back and forth between the two.

          /notserious

      • Are you sure it has GPS???

If it hasn't, then this is rubbish for the price.

Garmin have a far better product with better features.

        • +1

          The Fitbit has GPS.

        • @Smigit:

          You are correct.

          DSE didn't mention it.

more for sporty people? when i go out for my 6km run - i have my phone with me mainly for music but strava is recording my heart rate (bluetooth chest strap) and gps location (phones gps). a wearable for me would simply mean i dont have to fumble with my phone while running - seeing my heart rate on my wrist and controlling music would be all I need.

i'm just struggling to figure the people these are designed for. the plain fitbits seem like a better option as they're always on you - but when you go for a run, you can use your phones gps and fitbit will use that data.

does anyone really exercise without their phone on them?

        • i believe MANY cant exercise (jog) with their phone. people with 5.5" or more phones :)
can this fitbit store some mp3s and then connect wirelessly to BT headsets?

one perfect device for jogger would be this fitbit surge, with sim card, and internal storage and can connect to BT headset. oh and camera for selfies between rest!

The newest LG smartwatch, the Urbane LTE accepts a 4G sim. Just announced.
          http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/wearables/mobile-world-co…

My concern with taking my phone while jogging is the moisture getting into it and causing damage eventually.

        • "And both, like the LG G Watch R before them, sport 1.3-inch Plastic-OLED displays and 700mAh batteries, which should last two or three days, depending on your level of use."

in practice maybe just one day.
i wonder why they even bother to create wearable with that kind of battery level

        • @erwinsie: people definitely can jog with a large phone. You just need a expandable waist band. It works perfectly with phones if any size.

        • @alwayseric: have example link i can look at? got it, alot on ebay for $3.
but i thought this will weight you down while running? or bouncing?

        • @erwinsie:if we are talking about the same thing, the answer is no. They don't bounce or weight you down. They work out much better than an arm band IMO.

    • The Apple watch will not have heart rate, temperature or pulse sensors, if that's your thing.

Werent these debunked as not as good as the generic free apps on smart phones?

    http://www.slashgear.com/study-wearables-worse-than-phones-f…

    • The advantage in my view is you always have a wearable on you. If I'm at home I'm fairly prone to having my phone sit on a table somewhere convenient, but not necessarily on my person. If you're doing stuff around the house the steps can add up. I know my partner often leaves her phone on her desk when she pops out for coffee with co-workers too.

I also can't imagine I'd want to go for a job with my iPhone 6+ either.
