    • Those look too cheap. Are they real? Amazon sells these for USD$20

      • AliExpress doesnt have the best reputation for genuine stuff, but sometimes you get lucky.

        • -1

Good to know. AliExpress sounds like a kebab shop.

        • @Jesmond:
BAHAHA, fyi, it is part of alibaba.com, which is a kebab shop :P

check his ebay ratings he rips people off and sells fake cables

      • Yes I agree, but then again my cables seem solid/ genuine, give no warnings and charge at a good rate.

these fakes usually dont last long

  • This post does not meet minimum quantity guidelines

    • I stand corrected. Original quantity was above minimum.

Is it true Apple can kill the third party cables when releasing new iOS?

So if I buy a cable from ebay (seller says work for iOS 8), there is chance It won't work in the future for iOS 8.0.5 or iOS 9 for example?

    • No.

I've never even heard of this.

Have you ever heard of this actually happening?

      • i thought i saw or read somewhere.. maybe this happen during migration ios 6 to ios 7? when people upgrading the cable stops working.

        • It must be an urban legend. Cables can't discriminate between different versions of software.

        • @Jesmond: true with the old ones but seems the lighting cable/connector has some "chip" inside. again, not 100% sure about where i read this, or maybe now the 3rd party can copy the chip?

why many ebay sellers put "compatible with ios 7" other has "compatible with ios 7" on their listing?

      • I have HEAPS of lightning cables that either don't charge at all, give a "not certified" message yet do charge OK, or only charge at <500mA (slow).

This situation changes with each iOS. For example, I have a bunch of really high quality braided cables that worked perfectly in iOS6, refused to do anything whatsoever (not even start to charge) in iOS7, yet when I tried again recently on iOS 8.1 they are working!

So if I buy a cable from ebay (seller says work for iOS 8), there is chance It won't work in the future for iOS 8.0.5 or iOS 9 for example?

Yes, that is a VERY distinct possibility. Each time the Chinese catch up and work out how to make their cables "compatible", Apple moves the bar slightly with a new iOS release.

This is only a concern with generic cables. Brand name cables that carry the MFi logo pay Apple for their connectors and are "guaranteed" to work.

Wow at rep comments above. Imagine trying to claim warranty. Will probably just mock you like the guy above. Buyer beware.

    • +2

So the store rep is advertising his own stuff, saying its a bargain?

Above that, the attitude of this guy. If it was a real bargain that would have killed a few deals of the bat.

I reckon that's what the soccer reference is: 'if you make a joke or complain or really do anything I don't like, I'll kick you'!

As an aside - since the OP has such an abrasive manner, they might rub somebody up the wrong way. And somebody might find those non-approved fake Samsung chargers that the OP is flogging on eBay.

It's an offence to even OFFER FOR SALE such products in Australia. Maximum penalties are $87,500 and/or two years imprisonment for an individual and $875,000 for a corporation

EDIT: And I love the copy/paste of the opposition seller's item description (with a minor edit).
