Dick Smith - Acer Aspire E5-571 i7 8GB $723 after Coupon ($624 after $99 Cashback)

HOWZAT75

Acer Aspire E5-571 15.6" 1366 x 768 i7 4510u 8gb 1tb 1gb nvidia (possibly 820m but couldn't find exact same model in brief searches). $99 cash back from Acer until 31st March

Seems an excellent price for an i7 with dedicated graphics. Have never owned an Acer so can't comment on quality/reliability. Just bought one for a friend via click and collect and there seemed to be plenty of stock available.

First deal posted so please let me know if there are any issues.

Thx

What's the point with a low resolution screen like that?

If you find me a high res laptop at this price point you'll be everyone's hero. What most of us do is plug a proper monitor in at home or in the office… Problem solved.

  • Not trying to start a riot, but has acer gotten any better? My only experience with them was from years and years ago and they were rubbish.

Haven't noticed any common major issues with them in the past 7 or 8 years… Wish I could say the same for HP and Lenovo (I see a lot of laptops). Their service centre can be tiresome to deal with, but that's unfortunately true of many manufacturers now (notably Samsung, Lenovo and HP, apart from Acer)

    • The silver Acer laptop I had 10-12 years ago went white as all the colour rubbed off…high quality back then :)

In this price range pretty much all brands sell what you call rubbish. Plastic body will be standard.
Over $1000 you can expect better built quality made of carbon fiber or aluminium.

This is a very good price for a "brand new" laptop with 1tb HDD and 8gb RAM.
Processor may be i7 but being "U" series limits its power a lot.
Graphics are not very powerful but bit better than integrated graphics.
Still its a bargain as you will find it hard to look for this sort of config in this range.

Put an ssd in this and ud be laughing. Actually id say SSD is absolute must.

I knew someone who had a Acer Pentium 150 laptop in 1997 and never had any issues with it.

      • Using an 18 year old laptop as an example = LOL

  • And comes with tons of bloatwares too…

Solution, reinstall windows with a vanilla ISO or disc. Should do it to all new computers.

  • Seems pointless to have a low spec GPU if its barely above the onboard graphics ability. Just uses more power.

    • And heat

        Just uses more power.

        And heat

        It uses heat? :)

        • +3

At the electricity production stage, yes ;)

          @Headphones:

          Nice comeback :)

        • @Pobman:
aarghhhhhh the heat from my fingers! it's sucking it away!!

        • @Pobman: Watt was that?

  • What is strange is that DS are saying that cashback offer ends today

  • Lost me at 1366 x 768

my mobile has higher resolution then that and it's only 6"

    • +2

      silly comparison.

Surely your old TV will also not have higher res than your mobile so do you start watching TV on your mobile and sell your TV?

  • Acer is rubbish never buying them again.

Plus althought this CPU is an i7 its benchmarked at only 3060 as it only dual core.

And yes the low res is a joke.

    • +1

I had an Acer monitor 17" LCD, from more than 10 years back now? Still working perfectly..

  • For the people crapping all over the low res yes its bad but it matches the GT820m OK, putting in 1080p means most games will need to scale down screen, and native res always looks better
