Officeworks Chatswood NSW - Opening Sales - Seagate 1.5TB Portable Hard Drive $59 (QTY: 75)

900

I previously mentioned this in this deal here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/186937#comment-2630691

There was plenty of attention regarding the previous $49 for a 1.5TB Seagate Portable Expansion Hard Drive but most of the comments reported it sold out. Officeworks Chatswood is a new store opening tomorrow (Saturday, 21st of March) and as part of the opening specials, they will be selling a Seagate 1.5TB Portable Hard Drive for $59. Don't know how many they have in stock, but the store is comparatively smaller than other Officeworks (eg. North Ryde). I think there's a table or chair and some other bits and pieces on sale too.

Considering the circumstances, it's doubtful that you'd be able to price match at other Officeworks or their competitors. In addition, the Chatswood store hasn't even been listed on their website as of yet, so Click and Collect is also probably out of the picture. You might be able to call the Customer Service Centre and ask for one to be held, but the best way would probably be to rock up in person. I am unsure as to how long the sale will last.

The new store is located where the former Bunnings/First choice liquor store used to be. If you don't know where that is, it's at 179 Victoria Ave, about a brisk 15 walk from the station.

Disclaimer: I'm a friend of one of the employees who works there which is how I found out. There are other sales going on but this is the only one that I remembered because I myself was looking for a new hard drive to store more stuff. I don't have any physical evidence and the item may not be identical to the one I've linked. I can however, guarantee 100% that it is a 1.5TB Seagate Portable Harddrive and that it is at the price I stated. Hopefully an OzBargainer will turn up tomorrow and confirm it for me! :)

PS: I swear to god I'm not trying to overpromote the store or anything. I'm more of a lurker and this is the first time I've ever posted a deal. I posted the address because when I googled the place, it didn't even show up. I've tried to be as honest as transparent as possible so I hope I've done this right. Any questions just ask and I'll do my best to answer them but I'm not an employee there so I obviously won't have all the answers.

Edit: Updated to include the image from uggugg and sale dates

    SeeKo, thanks for posting.

Thanks for replying! I was super nervous when posting and the submission thing kept telling me I was doing things wrong XD

nice one ! I can upgrade my 120GB laptop assuming these ones can be split and are Sata style, not the propriety plug.

    • Standard connection. Will likely run slower.

      Should also suit PS4.

  • Hey, we're getting an Officeworks?! :D I'm surprised there weren't leaflets put out.

Do you happen to have a list of other things on sale?

    • +2

There were flyers but I didn't grab one. I think there also might have been a half page thing in the local paper.

From recollection I think there's a USB hub, USB sticks, a basic looking table and a chair also on sale. Couldn't tell you 100% for sure though. The Seagate was the only one that got my attention haha.

      • Oh, I haven't read that paper in months :\

Ah, well, at least worth a look around. I'm surprised it's smaller than the Ryde one, though - my fuzzy memory of the old BBC/Bunnings in the same building thinks it was quite big.

    • There used be an Officeworks at Artarmon but was closed in mid 2012.

      • +1

Yea, was a real pity. But this one's even closer :)

  • +2

Lol our local OW opening special was A4 printing paper $2 per ream.

  • What time it will open tomorrow?

    • Should be 8am.

      • What's the address?

Edit: Just realised you already told us! D'oh

Edit 2: Does this replace the fledgling First Choice Liquor in Chatswood?

        • +1

It hasnt been open for a long time…

        • +1

          Yes it does.

        • @Davo1111: fledgling - noun 1. a young bird that has just been born, 2. an immature or underdeveloped organisation. :)

        • +2

@SeeKo: Cheers! That place was always closed at prime beer buying hours. Really looking forward to having an Officeworks in the hood now! It's the only thing Chatswood is missing! Very excited to check out the new store.

        • @Jesmond:

          Big W too?

        • +1

@WaywardOne: Kmart and Target are good but you're right they don't fully compensate for a BIG W. BIG W always seems to be in odd places though, there's not one at Bondi Junction or Parramatta Westfields. But there's one at Winston Hills instead. 10/10 they should install BIG W into Chatswood.

I told you it was worth posting SeeKo, nice work.

    • =) Thank you!

      • Don't be amazed by our crazy OZbargainers today :)

Up vote for the awesome and honest explanation

    • +1

I didn't have all the details so all I could do was be honest with what I knew. Thank you!

I have the flyer but can't scan it now. Can confirm price and if anyone wants to know if there are deals on x I'm happy to say.

    • Anything else of note? Maybe over-ear headphones wise?

      • Not sure what you're into but no headphones and most of the other stuff is old or crap.

    • Perhaps you could please photograph with your phone? I'd be interested in other deals.

      • Phone out of charge, I'm rapidly charging :)

    • Which desk/table do they have on sale?

      • "Alex Student Desk" For $40

  • -5

    rip off!

  • I saw the ad in the local paper. I can't remember the exact number but it said they had limited stock. Either 20 or 50 units

    • its an opening special….

      • -4

even if you look at it in a positive light, it will take a few months more waiting for this price to be the 'standard RRP pricing' - Ah the 'good old days' when a 512mb mp3 player costed me $50 bucks. this was around the year 2006.

how did i know people gonna vote me down? The world of Business is hardly friendly to consumers… especially those who challenge the norm.

      • +3

Perhaps I can help - I suspect people voted you down because there was too much raver, and not enough lyrical.

    • +1

It's an opening special which makes it a unique deal. Chatswood is bustling suburb and a central hub for many students which makes it a logical choice to open up an office store. It's doubtful other stores would price match given the unique circumstances. You're more than welcome to try and then let others know how it went though.

Screen captured the ad. Only 75 available. Limit 1 per customer

How long are we giving it before they run out? Store opens at 8am, I say by 9.15 they will be gone - 1 a minute :)

    • Nice!

    • Nice one! Hope you don't mind me using your image :)

  • only 75 harddrives wont last long

  • The line is ridiculously long

  • Here now. There's quite a queue but you can always grab a free sausage and drink if you miss out on the deals.

As of 8:40am hard dives are finished, monitors were gone much earlier.

    • 40 minutes and 70 HDD gone?

      • +1

There were actually 75, by this time the USB Hubs were gone too which were $1 (x150), also it was a bit of a downer seeing every guy and his girlfriend/sister carry one out each, another slap on the face was when I saw a guy by himself buy 2!, I was in the batch AFTER it sold out, so the line inside was still very long but everyone including little children had one in their hand lining up as I set foot inside :(

    • thanks for letting us know… i was about to drive over

  • +2

I am amazed the lengths people will go through to save a few bucks on things they dont really need.

You must be new to OzBargain

  • Bought two chairs for my kids, decent quality

  • Priced matched The hard drive at Bundaberg OW

    • That's lucky, no beat though?

      • +1

Wasn't worried about the $2.95. Lucky to get it for $5.95 lol

  • +4

Messaged my friend who's working there today. From all reports, Officeworks has been completely OzBargain'd. Didn't think I'd get this kind of response but thank you for your warm welcome. Hopefully I'll be able to post more good stuff in the future :)

  • So much retail space wasted at that site. They could re-open 1st choice and add a Maccas. Bring back 1st choice!

  • +1

YEAH!! i also bought the seagate 1.5T $59, i was there at 8.15, probably around 60 ppl in front of me by that time, lucky i still can get it, that was 5 pieces left when i took mine one at 8.45am …. thanks OP

You must have been the group of people behind me in the line talking about Ozbargain!

  • Is that HP deskjet2540 decent for a cheapie? though they maybe all gone by now.
    what about #61 cartridges?

    • The printers are still there, I counted about 12-16 there, dunno how many out back. Should still have cartridges too. Lots of $3 8GB Sandisk USB sticks left. Also plenty of the orange Toronto Chairs ($18), Brother Laser printer, paper reams, tables etc left. Most of everything else is sold out. Forgot to grab a catalogue today again! My bad. :<
