what are the additional discount vouchers? any example?
Also do people prefer the online version rather than the physical one?

The iOS app is quite good. It's handy because you've always got it on you and you can have multiple devices (everyone in the family) logged in to the one account.

You can't gift or trade vouchers though and or lend your gold card to someone for the night.

I used to have the book, I've used the app for a year. I think I will use the app again.

      • +3

Think I'll go for the book, easier to share coupons, better to flick through and discover new restaurants etc

    • +1

I had always bought the book, but last year tried out the app on android. Here's my experience:

      Pros:
Can show all coupons/deals on a map based on your current location. I found this very handy and could even filter by type of voucher etc.
Don't need to carry a book or vouchers around all the time.
Updates with latest coupons and offerings as you enter the app.

      Cons:
App is a bit slow start up on the phone, but that's also because of pro no.3
Can't share the vouchers with others. I think can only share 2 per household address.
Can't flick through like a book. You kinda have to know what you're looking for.

      • Cons:

What happens if there is crap reception at the restaurant, eg. with Optus…

Can it be used offline ??

        • Unfortunately not, and as ozkiwi75 mentioned above, you need to know what you're looking for. Just putting in a suburb, you don't get the option to search surround suburbs, which is a bit of a fail

App needs to be better to convince me not to buy the book!

        • I haven't encountered that problem yet, but that's a good point. I wonder how the restaurants would manage it?

        • +1

@jv I got curious about the offline thing and found this on their website after a quick search:

"The Entertainment™ Digital Membership has been built in a way that you can redeem up to 5 vouchers offline if it has synced and updated recently. If you redeem on the active device whilst offline it will not let you redeem that voucher again because that information will be stored in your device and as soon as you are back online, your Membership will be updated with your usage."

      • You can share with immediate family by logging into the app from multiple devices…

      • Took me less than a minute to load app and find restaurant (galaxy s3). "You kinda have to know what you're looking for" you need to do that for the book too. Plus you save the environment.

        • Speaking of the environment, although mobile phones should be recycled properly, just remember that they contain concentrations of toxic heavy metals or other metals including cadmium, lead, nickel, mercury and arsenic!

I have tried the app on the Note 3 and Nexus 4. I experienced slow startup on both, but I think it was because I hadn't used it for a while so it was a long update perhaps? By 'less than a minute', do you mean just under a minute? Because that would feel like an eternity if you're standing at the register with the waiter staring at you to pay up!

All in all, I'd still get the electronic version again. Almost time to upgrade my Nexus 4 to something faster anyway.

        • Why not load the app while your still sitting at the table? I'm pretty sure most people would check if they have the discount first even before they decide to enter place of interest so you pretty much have it opened already in the background.

    • You don't have to carry the stupid book with you, rip out the vouchers etc, you just have your phone it's so much easier

    • Some of the vouchers like Mad Mex and Subway don't seem to be in the app version. I'm not sure if it's the same case this year.

I thought the entertainment book was not allowed on OzB…

    • if you look closely OZ bargain has a whole section on swapping vouchers.

      • Sure, but that's not a deal. I may have it confused with something else, but I thought the provider of the Entertainment Book has specifically requested it not be posted here.

        • I think the problem is posting the voucher code from the entertainment book.

  • They don't have a pickup address in Melbourne for the book? Hmmmmmm

  • how much is the book?

    • $65 + $10.50 delivery for the capital city versions…

This belongs in the forums, it is the normal price and normal pre-purchase offer…

I have to agree, already reported that it should just be added to the wiki, which they did, but now this post serves no purpose

        First time for everything

        • +1

Jv was right on two occassions last year.

  • Do you get exactly the same type and quantity of vouchers on the digital version as you do in the book version? Or do they update and change or add vouchers on the digital version. If its the same id rather the book.

    • Last year not all offers were available on the digital version.

    • +1

Pretty sure its the same deals and the app gets updated for the occasional new deal. You have to write them into a crowded book manually. I still prefer the book. Worth listing as a deal as its a great bargain overall, worth hundreds in a year.

      • Pretty sure its the same deals

I definitely wasn't last year, it said so on their website. Some merchants were not accepting the digital version.

    • +1

Have been to a launch tonight - all physical book vouchers are in the digital, and there may be MORE in the digital version.

Most important thing…for me at least…
Does the 2015-16 book have the Coles discounted gift cards AGAIN????

  • If I preorder the digital one can I start ordering the big w wishcards straight away?

    • Well apparently I won't be able to access the discounted wishcards until the book for the new year is released. :(

  • Check that you can download the app before buying the digital version. Last year it wasn't compatible with all Android devices.

  • The app isn't that bad. And they've updated it throughout the last year to make it better. I find the app much easier to carry around than the book/vouchers. And you can login from a few devices so easy to share with the family. There's only a handful of offers not available on the app. But also note that NEW offers that come out during the year appear on the the app via updates.

    • But also note that NEW offers that come out during the year appear on the the app via updates

If you have the book, new offers are emailed to you and are also available on the website.

  • This post should be in forum. MODERATOR.

  • Anyone know what the additional discount vouchers are?
I have the physical one but I think I might switch to electronic. The amount of times I forget the book or lose a voucher I tore out but didn't end up using may make the electronic version more useful to me.
Last year there was a few that weren't available in electronic that I wanted to use like MadMex and Schnitz.
I wonder if that's the case again.

    • I have been told that most hard copy merchants will be in the digital copy this year - oh, I hope so!

    • Okay - have been to a launch tonight - all vouchers in the physical book are in the digital one, and maybe more due to limited space in they physical copy.

If you like my help, please message me for details to purchase through me!

Sorry sam, I ended up going to RSPCA and buying it there.

Thanks for letting me know though.

  • Received my Entertainment Book today, seems they sent me out 2 books for the price of one,
    That's a pretty good Pre-Order bonus.

  • Have been to the launch of the Brisbane/Sunshine Coast books tonight, so if anyone has any questions, I'll try and answer them. I don't work for the company, I sell the books for our high school.

    • Is the Coles discount gift cards deal in it?
      Any discount buying through you?

      • No, no Coles vouchers this year. But David Jones is in! And it is 10% on the gift cards.

And sorry, no, I can't offer a discount. We are told by Entertainment Books not to as it isn't fair to other groups.
