$10 off Voucher on eBay

Just noticed the "deal" was removed, because it was targeted. The post was really useful for me, as I'd never have checked without being prompted to do so by the post. I have the voucher emailed, and so does my wife.
To those who didn't get the emailed voucher, it might be worth logging in to your ebay account, and checking which email address is affiliated with your ebay account. I initially thought I'd missed out, then logged in and discovered I'd signed up to ebay with an old email account I hardly use anymore. Signed in to that and sure enough, there was the voucher. Of course, also check you "junkk"/"promotional emails" (etc.) in-boxes, as well as just the 'normal' one.
Also, my email was sent at 04:00AM today (24march2015), so to those who were saying "damn, I just bought something 45 minutes ago" etc., it might still be worth checking; you may have actually been emailed the voucher prior to purchasing.

Good luck, and big ups to the original deal poster, even though it was ultimately removed. Many have evidently benefited from this, cheers mate.

EDIT (06april2015): I just bought something from ebay using PayPal and applied the "02" version of the voucher, and it actually worked (I completed the purchase and a $10 discount was applied to the PayPal payment). So it seems the vouchers have finally been rendered effective/are working.

so what was that code? Anyone?

  • Codes are C_YOURGIFT02 and C_YOURGIFT01. Feel free to try them and let us know.

    Just a bit of FYI:

    • This is a targeted offer that ONLY works for people have received the email.
    • The email does state in the terms it's a targeted offer.
    • Myself and Hamza received the codes (I received 2!). Scott & Moocher didn't.
    • There were about 8 comments saying the code didn't work for those who didn't receive email.
    • There were 4 comments saying the code didn't work and they received the email (weird).
    • There were a few other comments but no one confirming the code(s) worked.
    • +6

Yeah it dint work. It shows 0 AUD on ebay after applying coupon but as soon as you get into paypal, it asks for valid email attached with this code.

    • Just used C_YOURGIFT01 now and it worked… guess I am lucky.

  • +2

Got this aswell! Odd, I use ebay quite frequently and it said i hadnt! Eh Free money

    • +4

Same here! Got the code with a message saying that I haven't shopped on eBay in a while, when I just made a purchased less than a week ago!

      • It is like they reward people who dont shop and people who shop get punished…

  • +5

I checked that my email address was correct on both ebay and paypal, and both were identical. Tried with both codes, but it didn't work.

Will try again later tonight and hopefully it will be resolved.

    • +1

Evidently if you didn't receive the voucher/codes via an email from Ebay Pernunz, they won't work.

Assuming that they do actually work for those who received them (presumably they will start working at some point; the email appears to be genuinely from ebay/sent to a large % of registered members), can someone who remembers who posted the original 'deal' please mention their name here, by way of 'credit where it's due'… just something simple like:

"Thanks ____ for the original heads-up in the 'Deals' section"

      • +1

Yes, I did receive the email. I thought perhaps they had sent the wrong codes to the wrong people (easy database mistake) so tried both to no avail.

      • can someone who remembers who posted the original 'deal'

        It was lawyerz.

  • I tried to add my eBay email address to my Paypal account but still no luck. Was gonna pick up some Dick Smith rechargeable batteries. Oh well.

Confirming codes are working for me C_YOURGIFT02 and C_YOURGIFT01

  • I got one, it said I haven't used ebay for awhile but used ebay about a month ago?

  • +3

I hasnt worked for me and I did received the email, I'll try again later :(
also, I use ebay pretty much daily so ….

  • +8

Same here, I got the email with voucher code C_YOURGIFT02 and it deducted it from the checkout process but when trying to log into paypal to pay it, it says I'm not using the email address the voucher was sent to. (but I definitely am.) I've contact PayPal.

    • +2

Yeah, I had exactly the same experience. Support ticket lodged.

  • What to buy?!?

    • +1

I've got a cart full of arduino sensors to the value of $9.95 ready to go when this code works :)

  • I got both 01 and 02 codes (for different paypal accounts) and both are throwing errors about not being associated with my paypal accounts when trying to pay.

Sounds like they've jumped the gun with the emails maybe, hopefully they start working soon. Only bought the item because of the discount.

(Also, one account I use for payments and purchased with it last week (you haven't shopped with us for a while email), and the other I set up a little while back only to receive funds (not yet used though, hadn't added CC or bank details) and that email said here's $10 to get you shopping.

  • +3

Got the email for the 02 code, but it doesn't work at checkout.

  • +1

I also got an email with a code and it does not work!!! seems like a damn bug, thanks paypal for getting my hopes up!

  • I got an email with 03 code. Have not tried it yet.

  • +1

Seems a lot if people got the code when they shouldn't have. What a cock up. I'd be complaining

  • Surely they will have to fix the problem/honour the voucher for all who received it, rather than issue an apology/not honour it; otherwise the "negative fall-out" (and resulting financial loss) would be much worse than the actual financial loss of just honouring it?

  • +1

I've received an 02 code and have been unable to use it too.

  • +1

+1 for the 02 code and unable to use it :/

  • +2

I've received The voucher code: C_YOURGIFT02
Expires 28 April 2015. No minimum spend.

It is from paypal time to get that refill ink cartridge, i guess

  • +1

Rang PayPal, and was told that I am not actually eligible for the voucher as it's meant for people whose accounts have been inactive for ~1 year. It seems they may have sent out those emails in error / possibly to the whole PayPal user base? ie. there may be many people who receive the email/voucher, who are actually not eligible to use it (and thus the voucher will not work).

    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2386708

    • Definitely looks like this is the case.

  • What can i buy for $10 or less on ebay?

    • +1

      A good microSD card

  • I can't find where to input the code, would you need to commit to buy first then add?

    • +1

Add to cart > go to cart > go to checkout (not committing to pay yet) > voucher field is at the bottom > after applying code click submit, this is where it will take you to PayPal to complete the transaction > after logging into PayPal this is where you will find out whether or not you are allowed to use the code.

When I tried, the code applied the discount, but then I got the error at the PayPal stage, as someone else already mentioned above.

At no point did I commit to buy, I think that's only when you don't use the Cart.

  • +7

I just got off the phone with paypal. i received the code but when i tried to use it i got an error saying not valid to my account but the email was to that account

the woman on the phone said they are having an issue with all the vouchers which should be resolved and try again in 24 Hours.

the code is per transaction not per item so if your purchase is not quite $10..

just add 2 or more items to your basket….checkout.. apply the code and then pay

it if is indeed a stuff up and they make good on the $10 for every account this deal will go front page quickly lol

    • +2

hope they make it up for every account

    • I have bought something just because of the voucher, which was applied successfully at the start of the check out but got taken away at the final screen.

I don't want the item if the coupon is not honoured - this is not fair to me or the seller!

What my options here? Do I just ask the seller nicely to cancel the order?

      • +1

Call them up they will put $10aud in your account (mine took a bit over 24hrs to come thru) then u can complete the purchase without using the coupon

      • +1

If you got the initial email, then you should have got a follow up email already saying they are still honouring the coupon for those who received it, starting 30/3. (They eventually replied to my email saying the same thing).

I contacted the seller in my case to let them know the story and that I would be paying on the 30th when the coupon is active.

For what it's worth, the seller has to wait a min 4 days before they can lodge a non payment case, after which eBay gives you another 4 days to pay so the coupon should be active before then anyway.

        • Good point about the 4 day wait for a non-payment case, but this wouldn't stop the seller from potentially giving me negative feedback if they are so inclined.

        • I have received the original email but not the follow up email you speak of.

        • @elektron: sellers can't give negative feedback

        • @zelda707:

That's bizzare? Why the heck not?

Anyway, all is sorted for me - spoke with PayPal, they credited my account for $10 and I paid for my yesterday's purchase.

        • +1

          @elektron:

Good to hear. As far as I read it, despite the $10 credit, you'll also be able to use the voucher from the 30th, so worth a try if you've got something else to get.

Anyway, just FYI, never knew that about seller feedback, but if they lodge a case and you don't pay within 4 days of ebay notifying you (and the seller doesn't extend it) then eBay will record the unpaid item on your account. That just means (from the policy)

"Excessive unpaid items on a buyer's account may result in a range of consequences, including limits on or loss of buying privileges. Even if you don't have excessive unpaid items, we may limit your buying until you've established a good buying history or paid for the items you've committed to."

So probably nothing.. doesn't seem like its in eBays best interest to stop you from buying.

Interesting to note that the US policy is a min 2 days wait for seller, instead of 4 for .au

        • @bamzero: Thanks for the good info - I learnt something new.

        • @elektron:

Did you call paypal support? Because I emailed them but I didn't get a response I was happy with (just got some FAQ link).

        • @trumpedup:

I called them and they instantly credited $10 to my account, and I paid for the item.

        • @elektron:

Cheers. 1800 numbers aren't on my plan so they cost me money. Almost isn't worth calling them as it probably costs $1 per minute anyways =(

        • @trumpedup:

You can also call (02) 8223 9500, it's listed alongside the 1800 number. You have to be logged in, then go to the contacts section. They'll show a one-time passcode (valid for 1 hour) that you'll have to punch in so that they'll know who you are once you've got them on the line. This bypasses the security questions to verify that you are who you say you are.

        • @elektron:

Thanks mate. They ended up getting back to me via email. I have a $10 voucher now… i'm still left with a salty taste in my mouth as the code failed on me twice so I bought two items not one.. lol

Got the marketing email with the C_YOURGIFT02 code

Received the same error as above when attempting to checkout by pay

"This discount is not linked to this PayPal account"

chose the email paypal customer support option using online form link below

    https://www.paypal.com/au/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_contact-genera…
    topics:
    Sending/Receiving Money
    Coupon/Redemption Code

  • alot of people on whirlpool saying they did "buy it now" then tried the code and only then found it that it didn't work (instead of using the checkout method)

  • I didn't receive any Email but mine is working.

    C_YOURGIFT02 - AU $10.00 off applied
    Subtotal (6 items) AU $8.15
    Postage AU $1.99
    Discounts - AU $10.00
    Total AU $0.14

    • What about when you go to PayPal?

      • +1

        And it wont work there.

        • This discount is not linked to this PayPal account ()

          PayPal
To use this discount, the associated email address must be linked to your PayPal account. You can add your email address to this account, try logging in to a different PayPal account, or continue your purchase without using the discount.

          No, my bad…..

  • Nope

even though code works when u enter it..

    once u checkout at paypal

it would say the code is not associated with this account

  • never received a coupon from ebay despite being with them since 2008.

    • +1

I wouldn't take it personally nubz… seems like they accidentally commenced sending it out to every single Paypal user with an ebay account, then only realised their mistake once they were about half way down the list. Seems about 50% have got it, and 50% haven't; pretty much at random.

I'm still betting that they'll honour it, because otherwise the anti-ebay sentiment/backlash will be too great. It's one thing for an amatuer start-up company to offer a deal and then renege on it, but it's another for "mighty (fe)E-bay", the global dominator of their sector, to send a voucher like the the one they sent, and then claim it was all in error and that actually you can't use it. If they want to avoid alienating themselves from their (potentially former) client base on a massive scale, they will just go ahead and honour it.

  • I received the email and not working for me :(

    • Don't despair just yet CT, I maintain that FeeBay will realise that their wisest course of action here is to alter their systems to accept the code; rather issuing emails en-mass stating that they've wasted a huge amount of everyone's time, spawned a vast cloud of collective false hope, and were now reneging on the legitimately received discount-vouchers they'd emailed to long-standing users.

  • Where is this code to be inserted?
I add something to my cart, and then whne I go to my cart there is nowhere to insert the code.
Do i need to proceed to checkout to enter the code?

    • +1

Yes, proceed to check out and it is on that page. Should be before you login to PayPal

    • yes

but code will give error when u reach paypal checkout

  • I too received an email with the 02 code, and had the same issue with the "not linked to this PayPal account" message.

So, I just rang PayPal, and they are going to credit $10 to my PayPal account. Seems that PayPal are going to do the right thing, at least for those who complain.

    • which number did you call?
I called the number through paypal… but seems to be on hold forever….

      • At the very bottom of the offer email, there is a Contact Us link. Click on that, then click on the Call Us link on the right. You'll eventually get a pop-up screen with a 1800 number and a one-time passcode.

  • mod,
is there a way to bring this deal to front page when the codes start working?

    • If the offer is NOT targeted, e.g. everyone can use the codes then the original will be republished and will be on the front page but probably on page 2 (atm). However, its now been 24 hours and they haven't even sorted it out for the users it does apply to.

  • Wow i just checked my email and i also got one. This is great!

    • Doesn't necessarily mean it will work for you though…

      • Yeah I just tried to checkout through paypal and it said my account wasn't linked, even though it is. Still sending a email to paypal about it and see if i can get anything out of it.

  • I received the email but I haven't attempted to use it yet, using the cart can you be sure it will work before purchasing or do you not find out until you've committed to buy?

    • you don't find out until you attempt to pay through paypal.

I saw the email and figured id buy something i had my eye on for quite awhile. Spat out an error after logging in to paypal and left the transaction hanging while i called them up, praying that nothing had been deducted. The paypal rep credited my account $10 and luckily for me the transaction had timed out so it hadn't deducted anything from my account.

TL;DR: code didn't work, called paypal and got $10 credit.

  • -2

Both codes works for me and I have just purchased an item last week. (Not working during checkout)

    • Can we safely assume you haven't completed the transaction in PayPal?

  • I got the email as well but when attempting to pay with PayPal, the payment was not discounted.

I purchased what was in my cart anyways and then called up PayPal. They took less than 10 minutes and credited my account with the $10. It's a known issue and technically anyone can use the code because of this "issue".

  • Yeah I started the thread on WP. PayPal have acknowledged it as a known issue (though aren't saying what the issue is). Looks like anyone who contacts them about it are getting $10 credits to their account. So yes it's meant to be targeted but was a stuff up so anyone who got the email regardless of intended eligibility should be able to get a $10 credit. To anyone affected just contact them via FB, phone or email etc and they'll fix it up.

  • +1

ring 1800 073 263 (toll free) tell them about the code and they auto recognize it say sorry and then put $10 in your acc. :)

  • Made the call - quick and painless (5 mins maybe) , with $10 due to land in my account soon.

    • took maybe 1 minute for my $10 arrive after the call.
Suppose i coulda just kept the $10 but i made an ebay purchase anyway for an item I had been watching.

    • Made the call - not so quick and painless. I'm guessing everyone is calling up now because I was only hold for nearly 30 mins, but it's been credited. :-0

  • I emailed in yesterday but have not gotten a reply, so I went ahead and called them (1800 073 263, and the 6 digit passcode). The whole call took exactly 5 minutes (including listening to the automated voice) and they said sorry that it was not working and credited $10 into my paypal.

  • Yep, did the same, emailed but thought I'd call to make sure.
The bonus is that they are actually crediting $10 to your PayPal account. I assume this means you can use it how you like, not just as an eBay discount.

On another note, logged in to PayPal today to get my phone code, and see they've updated the layout.. So far, I like it.. much easier to read.

EDIT: Account credited a few minutes after hanging up. Nicely handled PayPal.

  • Called them up as well. $10 was credited within seconds.

  • So I rang up and they said only if I proceeded with the transaction now was I to get the $10 credit.
Is this what everyone else is getting?

    • +1

Nope….try a different person. Just called up gave them the code, they checked that I was eligible (whatever that means), and then credited the $10.

      • Probably checking that you were on the mailing list.

  • +2

I just got another email from them (I didn't contact them). This is from my Paypal account I have never used (C_YOURGIFT01)

    We’re sorry
We sent you an email yesterday with $10 to spend on eBay. You may have noticed that we experienced a technical issue with the voucher code that was sent to you. Don’t worry, you are still eligible for the voucher, it will be available to use from 30 March 2015.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

    To redeem your voucher:
    1. Visit ebay.com.au and start shopping
    2. Find something you like and check the seller accepts PayPal (this voucher is only valid when you pay with PayPal)
    3. At checkout enter the voucher code in the voucher field

    • Hmm hopefully its fixed now - anyone tried?

      • Says March 30 so have to wait.

        • Sorry mate just skim read it

      • Not working for me today

    • I got the same without contacting them (referring to Neil's comment above)

    • wonder if it means we'll be able to use the code this time, even if we received the $10 credit without the code?

  • +1

So I got the email as well and tried to purchase something ~30 mins after getting it. Didn't work, so I contacted paypal via "email"

    https://www.paypal.com/au/webapps/helpcenter/selfhelp/home/
"Email Support" -> "Sending/Receiving Money" -> "Coupon/Redemption Code". Put in the coupon code and supply a short message.

Got the following response today (approx 28 hrs after submitting a ticket):

    Thank you for contacting PayPal.

I apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused you. We were able to determine that there’s problem on our system that is causing the voucher not to be accepted.

To make your experience better, we are giving you a credit of $10.00 AUD on your PayPal account which you can use for your future transactions.

We value your feedback and we appreciate your patience

    Thank you for choosing PayPal.

In theory I didn't need to use the credit on ebay.. but I had an unpaid ebay item so I paid for it with the credit today. Thumbs up to paypal for good support!
