  • Do you know if it is possible to get the guys at the paint counter to tint the ready to go paints? I think Cotton White is pretty white right?

    • I don't think you can double tint paint. There is a limit to how much tint you can put in. It's very likely it won't mix properly.

The amount of tint needed to make these subtle off whites is fairly minimal, you would be able to add more tint. However the difficulty would be in predicting the outcome as you would not be starting from the standard white base.

If you were able to assertion what tints are used to make one of the colours i.e.; Antique cream, you could then look for other tinted colours which utilise smilier or same amount of tints required.

Bottom line is that its possible however the paint staff will likely charge you for the extra tint, not to mention the trouble you would need to go through to work out which colours you could predictably make.

It would take a true Ozbargainer to go through all of this. Please post results if anyone accepts the challenge.

        • I am assuming that the amount of tint to make Cotton White is the same in each can. So this means that if I ask for a particular colour from the swatch, the tint into each can will produce the same colour. Even if the colour is slightly off, as long as the tint produces the same colour in each can, I would be happy with that.

I've had pascol next to dulux wash and wear in the same room for a couple of years now and cant tell the difference between the 2 .

    • That's good feedback, thanks Troy. I don't work in the paint department but I know a lot of Tradies buy this paint in the larger 10L and 15L tins.

Yea, I took up their recent offer of a free sample pot. Painted one of my walls with the paint, I don't see any difference between dulux and pascol. I read online that Pascol paint has poor coverage and will need multiple coats. It was alright with 2 coats, and the Dulux paint I bought needed 2 coats as well.

One thing I did notice Dulux paint performed slightly better in terms of smoothing out a bit after you paint it on.

      • I actually found the dulux to dry too fast to get a really smooth finish . But I was painting in the Perth summer heat .

  • Bunnings have just reduced 4L cans to $11.50 each to compete. Can be tinted to any colour that comes off a white base.
