DS should be cheaper ($335.20 C&C or $345.15 delivered) if they don't jack up their price overnight http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Asus-10-1-T100-Transformer-Book-2…

    • Yeah I saw that, it said on sale today only though, so I wasn't sure.

Thanks though I'll chuck it in the title.

  • Acer Switch 10 or this…..

Buyer beaware. This tablet is horrible. I owned it for 2 months and couldn't handle it any further.

      • Low res screen with bad viewing angles
      • Very slow on the operating system
      • Touch screen was hit and miss
      • Very reflective screen and can't use outside
      • Keyboard and trackpad were very, very average
      • Friend had serious problems after 1 week of ownership and waited 3 months to get sent back

Spend the extra money and get the Switch 10 or just a regular laptop.

The screen isn't too bad - it's IPS… viewing angles aren't bad at all compared to a TN screen.

It's slow if you expect it to multitask heavily, but for its intended purpose of web surfing and document editing, it's pretty good.

The touch screen is fine - you have to either add a matte screen protector or use FUSSO anti-fingerprint coating on it to make your finger glide smoother.

If you add a matte screen protector, it'll be less reflective as well. The real issue is that they haven't laminated the glass to the LCD - however, that could be a plus for repairability.

Agreed regarding the keyboard and trackpad - they aren't the best. However, for the price, it's not bad at all, considering the battery life, Bay Trail quad core Atom, 2GB RAM (better than 1GB) and included Office.

      • I think it's a great little unit. My other laptop is a quad i7 with 32GB RAM and SSD - and I've never felt that the T100 was too slow.

I think the keyboard was the best in class when it came out. Even though it's a little crammed, it's far easier to type on than the Surface type covers. Trackpad is pretty average.

It's also very light, around 600 grams. No problem holding it up in tablet mode for hours at a time. Many 10" tablets are pushing 800gm to 1.2kg, which is tiring to hold up for too long.

Now the biggest advantage of this unit is that it charges over USB. You can take the one small adapter with you and share it with your phone, camera, whatever. The included adapter is 2 amps, but it will charge (albeit slowly) on a standard 500 mA supply. It's so convenient… in an emergency you could even plug it into your TV's USB port.

        My complaints are:
        * Screen sometimes turns on overnight, draining the battery if not plugged in. Haven't investigated it yet, might be one of my programs doing it.
        * The hinge doesn't open wide enough - when using on my lap the screen isn't perpendicular to my eyes, but it's only a minor inconvenience.

Admittedly they had problems when they first came out. Generally best was to install the firmware update straight away - and if it worked you were good, if not take it back to the retailer and swap it over.

BTW, if you think Acer has better service, you'll be in for a surprise. I have given up on trying to claim the cashback on the last Acer I bought. At best it's a pain in the neck, at worst it's a nightmare.

      • The Switch 10 has a worse processor and half the battery life, while costing more…

        • Still is better built and has better reviews then the T100.

T100 needs to be updated as its not great in it's current state.

  • picked up one of these right on 8am, thanks OP
