Gionee Elife E7 Snapdragon 800 (2.2GHz), 1080p BLACK $159.98 USD @ GearBest

GEE7

I just bought one earlier off scrimshaw's post and wow, great purchase. The screens great, cameras great, battery life is fine, performance is better than my Z1 which also runs on same processor and basically I use this phone instead of my Z1 (which became my internet tethering phone) as the screen is just so much better despite the specs being so similar (E7 401ppi vs 441ppi Z1). The custom Amigo OS 4.4 Android Kit Kat update just got released OTA and I've updated. Other than the ridiculously sensitive screen, its a great phone to play with (I basically just play games and surf net with it). There are limitations with the OS which you should check out before deciding whether you should buy it or not though.

Great price. Too bad it doesn't have LTE and theres no developer love for this phone

  • WCDMA 900/2100MHz - Suitable for Optus network?

    • +1

      yes

    • but not overly great on telstra :( due to the no 850

  • Very good specs for a $209 phone. But no LTE kills it.

No LTE, and No 3G for Telstra and Vodafone except the 2100MHz network…It won't work on the 850MHz for 3G used by Vodafone, and by Telstra NextG

Good phone if you're OK with 3G only, and use Optus

    • Network type: GSM+WCDMA
      2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
      3G: WCDMA 900/2100MHz

      So no Telstra/Voda 3G 850 :(

      • OP should update the spec, it is 2G 850/900/1800/1900 not 3G.

  • The Jiayu S3 is a good alternative if you are after LTE and developer support.

The Snapdragon 800 is meant to have a global chipset built into it… meaning that the radio limits are only imposed by a) hardware antennae in design and b) country certifications… I wonder if LTE could be unlocked on these like it has been on other Snapdragon 800 based phones?

    • This is likely. It is listed as supporting LTE here: http://www.gsmarena.com/gionee_elife_e7-6082.php
But I have no idea how you would adjust these settings (or if it even is possible in this case)

edit: technically it may be possible, but also may be dangerous: http://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/comments/2qgeh8/how_to_enabl…

      • Maybe they're using the 8274AB chip like what they did with the Xiaomi Mi3 http://en.miui.com/thread-12840-1-1.html. Regardless that guide requires a custom ROM which requires an unlocked bootloader - which is not available for the Elife E7. Probably a chicken egg scenario, if it doesn't support the networks you need then you're not going to buy the phone right? Less phones means less developers. Real shame because its a nice piece of kit for the money
