Two Years for The Price of One with The Smile Dental Care Plan

Basically the same as this deal I posted previously and which expired yesterday.

New coupon code and this one has no expiry date for now. I will update expiry when and if a cut off date is announced.

This scheme could be a great and cheaper alternative or even an 'add-on' to the dental cover you have through your private health insurance.

Using the coupon code provided, you can get a two year membership starting from $77 for singles.

With Smile you get discounts of up to 40% on a wide range of dental treatments and procedures with hundreds of participating dentists Australia-wide.

All this is on top of whatever rebates you get through your private health cover so you can 'double dip'!

Better yet, there are no waiting periods at all to serve so I suggest people only sign up if they expect they'll need work done in the next 2 years.

You can also buy it as a 'just in case' purchase or an alternative to extras cover in your private health insurance if all you need is dental. Up to you.

Also, make sure they have enough participating dentists where you live before you join. Most metro areas and many regional centres have decent amount of participating doctors but double check before you cough up the cash.

I've been a member myself since August last year (2014) and have already generated savings more than 5 times the cost of my membership.

I've written a detailed review of this plan, its potential benefits and what potential issues to look out for. You can read it all here

  • If I have been quoted for some work I need doing already. Is it now too late to join smile?

    • Definitely not.

As long as you haven't received the treatment yet, you can still secure the discount.

Once you become a member, your dentist must give you the smile members pricing (I explain how that's determined in my review but you are guaranteed to get a 15% discount at the very least) provided they are participating in the scheme.

You can check before you join and see if they are. If not, you can either decide to not join or choose a different dentist who is already part of the programme.

Smile spends months assessing every dental practice before they accept them into the programme. As a result, they have quite a long waiting list of dentists waiting to be approved to come onboard.

They told me that the reason they do that is to ensure only top-notch dentists are allowed to treat their members.

      • wow! Thanks for the info, I will have a read of your review.

Thanks, just purchased family plan. I have insurance as well but but I think it is not bad deal for whole family at $49/year.

  • " Top notch Dentists". Give us all a break. They are under performing practitioners who are desperate for work. You will be over serviced. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

      So you've used the service?

I just checked the site for Smile dentists near me and found the dentist I use (for the past 15 years) is listed. He has a thriving practice, is always busy with regular and cosmetic patients, and does a lot of community work. (And his practice is in a bit of a posh area.)

Certainly not a dentist I would classify as under-performing or desperate for work.

    Undeclared rep?

    • I am not a rep and the link is not an affiliate link.

I do, however, participate in their affiliate programme and the review on my site does indeed contain affiliate links as per my fair disclosure statement.

But on top of that, I am a smile customer myself (and a happy one at that) and I think many other aussies could benefit from this service.

This kind of membership-based dental plans are very common overseas but haven't existed in Australia until Smile was the first to introduce one on a national scale.

This is the truth and nothing but the truth.

      Have a great Easter :)

      • Out of curiousity, the coupon code, is that linked to your affiliate account?

  • how do you know you are getting a discount, or the the price has been upped and then a discount applied?

      Dick Smith Dentists?

    • That is a common concern which has been shared by many (including myself) in the past.

I address it in full (including a lengthy formal response from Smile) in my review

      • Thanks, it sounds good.
You mention a scheduled fee rate and their site hints that it's available but I couldn't find it. Can you link to it for me please.

        • +1

Sure thing. Like with private health insurance premiums, it varies by state

          QLD
          VIC
          NSW
          WA
          SA
          ACT

There is no schedule for Tassie or NT so I'm assuming Smile has no participating doctors there but the Tassie & NT people should check for themselves to be sure.

Before you ask why is the schedule from 2014 and is it up-to-date, this is directly from Smiles's own FAQ:

Yes. The Smile dental fees are current. The Smile dental fees are updated once a year.

The update for 2015 has not yet taken place so the 2014 schedule is still in effect till that happens.

  • Crap, I just bought a year membership a week ago, yet to use it.

    • The previous code would have been active back then.

      Shame you didn't see it.

Maybe try calling them and see if they can apply the promotion retrospectively.

      • :(

  • where / when do you enter the code please? I'm at the payment stage and so far no prompt for a code (that I've seen). Thank you.

    • The first page you get after you click the 'Join Now' button.

  • I found the smile membership is useless. I used to go to MLC dental first at Martin Place in Sydney for my root canal treatment. They are with smile and their price is really high. But the dentist there is not professional and I had to pay for their mistake. Finally I decided to go to see another dentist. Their price is quite reasonable, and the X-Rays(022) were included in my root canal process (415, 416, 417, 418). But smile member dentist they always charge you X-RAY.

For I myself, I do believe the smile membership is useless, it won't help you save money.
