$30 off First UBER ride in Perth

260
ihatemax

Not sure how well this will be received, UBER seems to be a bit controversial, but its the best deal on UBER I've seen so far. This popped up on my facebook feed, with the description as follows:

As of this morning, UberX just became 50% cheaper than taxis in Perth by further reducing their price on the service by 20%. If you are still riding taxis, you are a fool. Uberx is 50% cheaper, you ride in better cars, its more reliable, cleaner and the drivers even offer you free bottles of water and mint. I use Uber all over the world, and can vouch it is an incredible service, as can many people who tour or use it regularly in their city. IF you have not downloaded Uber before, and you are a first time user, please do so, and enter the promo code 'ihatemax' and I will shout you $30 on your first Uber ride in Perth be that UberX or Uber Black (Luxurious model platform).

Feel free to share this round, No one should ride in Swan Taxi's ever again.

You can enter this code during the new account creation process (just after entering CC details) and it will be linked to your account for the next time you travel with UBER.

According to Max's facebook status the code will be available for "a long time".

"As I said in another post, our state laws in WA are ridiculous. Small Charter Vehicles have to charge a minimum $60 fare regardless of the distance driven.

That being said, the concept of a fleet of unlicensed (INCORRECT), possibly uninsured (or not suitably insured enough) (INCORRECT), unregulated taxis, of wildly varying (INCORRECT) vehicle ages/conditions with no driver screening/background checks (INCORRECT) /on-board cameras/or accountability (INCORRECT) driven by Bazzas & Daves Australia-wide is a stupid idea for a whole host of reasons, as is the company Uber, who blatantly flout local laws the world over because they're essentially "too big to fail"."

you obviously have no idea how UBER works or have bothered to check how they operate.

    • +3

But they are screened, there are background checks. driver's cars must be insured.

Even if you don't agree with Uber's service, don't you agree that it is the customer's freedom to choose which level of service they wish to pay for, and this level of service may or may not meet the expectations of people like yourself? In the end it is one aussie guy agreeing to pay for a trip and another aussie guy agreeing to drive. You think they are spending stupid money. They don't. Who are you to say that their desires should be invalid (or a bunch of bureaucrats for that matter)?

Yes, I feel so safe in a regular swan taxi… at least with uber you have individual driver reviews and service. This is the shake up the industry needs, and I hope the director of swan taxi or b&w wakes at 3am in the morning in a cold sweat trying to work out how to claw back customer which they are hemorrhaging every day to uber!

I have had many taxi drivers who did not match their ID. Many drivers who seemed oblivious to road rules. Taxi drivers who did not know the way. Or who could not spell, such that they could not program their GPS.
I have not, and may never, tried Uber, but it can't be any worse than a Perth taxi (except for the occasional decent driver I had, who I tipped well)

  • who is max

    • No Idea, Just trawled through some comments on his facebook feed, apparently he's just a guy that "knows someone who works for UBER"…

Also I see someone reported the post for "affiliate/referral". Not entirely sure what that means but I want to be clear I don't make any money from this and I'm not offering my own referral code, I've never used UBER myself. I'm not sure how much this Max guy gains every time someone uses his code tho, apparently nothing but the option to buy him a beer according to his facebook feed… All very odd.

The truth is that UberX cars are not insured as no insurance companies will touch them. Apart from that Uber insist on an F class endorsement and an upgrade to the third party insurance component on the vehicle licence.

There may be large public liability insurance policy from Uber, but there is nothing in writing that I have seen that exists. Just heresay.

Don't get me wrong. I like the idea of Uber and the cartels that own a truckload of the taxi licences in Perth need a wakeup call.

    • hahaha what a great video! Thanks!

I am sure uberx drivers are loving their new 20% pay cut.

    • What's the payment model? Do the drivers pay a cut or fee to some central uber authority or do the drivers take 100%?

      • +3

        20% to uber , 80% to driver

I am sure uberx drivers are loving their new 20% pay cut.

or uber gets more demand and drivers get more money

        • -4

OK so why not cut 50%?

          My point still stands.

        • @chill:

Assume a driver drives 5 hours a day, and then a 20% reduction in fares gives them enough work for 8 hours a day.. great! Now they have an extra 3 hours more work instead of idling around, whilst still getting paid a good amount. A 50% reduction in fare however might see them getting 15 hours of work, but at half the rate which makes both them and Uber worse off. Probably a bad description on my part, but your point definitely does not stand :)

        • @justcallmeboss:

          Your point doesn't stand actually.

          I totally agree with @chill.

Now a driver has to work 8 hours for e.g $300 instead of working 5 hours for $300. More hours of driving for the same amount of money due to the 20% cut. If I were a driver I'd rather be home earlier with the same amount of $$ in my pocket.

@Firey1989: Actually, it stands. My main assumption is that an Uber Partner works for 8 hours a day.

          $300/5 = $60/hour. Sweet!
          $600.8 = $48/hour. Not bad.
          $48
          8 = $384

          $384 > $300 (assuming 8 hours are worked)

Obviously my figures are extremely crude, so if an Uber Partner could weigh in on our calcs, that'd be great.

        • @justcallmeboss:
Anymore reduction and drivers will be losing money driving you to your destination. Don't forget that they bear all the costs to operate their cars! Fuel, maintenance, cleaning and value depreciation of the car!

    • "As we have seen in many cities, when prices are lowered, demand among riders increases. Increased demand turns into more efficiency for the partner driver, more trips for every hour, and more earnings for every hour on the road.

"We are so confident with this new pricing, that we are actually increasing our existing earnings guarantees for our driver partners. We feel that it is important for partner drivers to have this level of certainty and comfort going into a price change. "

I had a promo code i had ages ago, but never got around to using it and then it expired.

Used Uber for the first time a couple of weeks back, and the service was awesome. Easy as to book it, the driver was only 4 mins away when I booked it. Got a text when he was coming up the street.

Driver was a very friendly guy, in a nice clean Mitsubishi ASX, and only cost me $15 when a normal taxi would have cost $25 (plus the b*llshit 10% card surcharge) as well as trying to go the long way as I've found Swan Taxis love to do.

From now on I'll always be catching Uber. (profanity) Swan Taxis! :-)

  • Any idea if the code can be applied into new accounts and works in sydney?

  • Just used this on über black. Awesome service. Ended up costing me $2. Great car too, brand new Holden caprice.
