Hi fellow hoarders of Eneloops. I received this offer via email which doesn't seem to be targeted. Great for those (like me) who missed out on the Everbuying offer.

Thanks Ghostknife for the link in the expired D4 Thread for this link http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?391851-Te…
I've got an i4 at home which I love and will grab a couple of D4's for work.

Snipped directly from the Banggood site:
Introduction:
The Nitecore D4 is a universal smart charger compatible with almost all cylindrical rechargeable batteries, thus eliminating the need to own several chargers. The D4 automatically detects Li-ion, Ni-MH and Ni-Cd batteries, and through manual selection is also capable of charging LiFePO4 batteries. Intelligent charging circuitry selects the optimal charging mode (CC, CV and dV/dt) for a given battery and each of the D4’s four microcomputer-controlled charging slots then monitors and charges the battery independently. Furthermore, an integrated digital LCD screen clearly displays charging progress, voltage, current and time while an intelligent automatic power-off function terminates current when charging is complete. The Nitecore D4: The world’s most advanced fully-automatic digital charger. It’s as simple as insert, detect and charge.

  • I have one and it works well. Does not give final mAh put in, but you can calculate it with the time and current rate display. AAA cells dont fit it quite right, you need to lift the -ve end up a bit to make contact with the charger. Other than that it does a nice job charging an assortment of batts. Excellent unit for good quality operation and value for dollar.

I have my eye on this one http://www.gearbest.com/chargers-batteries/pp_71595.html which I have seen as low as US$36 (not at moment). Does battery cycling and a lots more plus it can run off 12v so its handy for camping. But it's a good bit more $$.

    • Wouldnt matter if it told you how much it puts in, as chargers giving you that reading dont account for losses such as resistance in the battery. It could say it put in 3000 ma but the battery only took 1800 of it. If you want to test capacity, you need a capacity testing charger, it will charge fully, then discharge before recharging. Like that Opus you linked. For most people, myself included its really unnecessary.

If youre after a good charger, there is nothing wrong with this one.

      • While that is true, it is still a useful indicator of how flat the battery was, and if you know how much the battery typically charges, if the battery is really charged or is fault. Other than that, a nice dumb automatic charger is excellent. For that, you can't beat the charger ALDI had recently… for about $17 you got a 6cell nicd/nimh charger for AAA - > D cells + 2x9v, and all you did is plug it in and put the battteries in. Now… if only it had had lithium charge ability!

        • XTAR VP2 isnt a dumb charger, but it doesnt show total input. Its wrong to suggest that the absence of that feature is a dumb charger. Dumb chargers lack much more important stuff than that wishy washy figure. Not sure thats what youre doing, but it kind of reads like it.

Id prefer a battery resistance measure to be honest over amount charged.

Theres so many chargers on the market, most of which fail in both design and build when tested by experts (Im not one). I havent seen test results of the Aldi charger you mention. I have seen them for the Opus and the D4.

        • @Tuba: my bad… I wasn't meaning dumb in as far as the regular dumb charger that just applies a voltage to a battery until the cows come home… I meant as in 'no-thinking-required' - that's why I said 'nice dumb automatic charger'.

Internal resistance is definatley a good metric, and the Opus can also test that for you. And as far as mah or columb counting, it really depends on what you use it for. For lithium RC flight packs, since the charge efficienty is > 90%, it is a very good indicator of how much charge went into the battery. Similar for all the 14500/18500/etc lipos. For nimh/nicd it's not so useful as they are too ineffcient in charging, and loose a lot in heat. But it will tell you if the flat battery you put on charge did in fact charge, or tricked the charger into terminating with almost no charge.

The Aldi charger is fully automatic just the the Nitecore D4 is as far a nicd and nimh are concerned. It will charge a battery, and has a display to indicate charge percentage. If the IR of the battery is high, and the battery voltage is low, it will actually discharge the battery first and then charge it. No buttons, nothing to set wrong… but does mean it either works or it doesnt! It was actually listed on ozbargain back in July '14 - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/151708

I have yet to see a charger that is anywhere near perfect. The Opus is good, but has a few letdowns. The pulsing nature of its charge is also… interesting… but it may have some beneficial side effects. I have yet to see it be tricked into early charge termination even with batteries with high IR which trick other chargers.

      • Hmm so this one does sound good. Sound good. But I bought another nitecore charger and it was a disaster, ruining batteries (cooked and the wrapping melted off) and not properly charging. The i4 model. I like that this does have more detailed feedback.

        • +1

The i4 doesnt use -dv/dt to terminate, while the D4 does. Reviewer I read questioned the terminations of the i4 due to that fact. Interesting.

        • @Tuba:

Hmm I see. That does seem to explain what happened to my batteries with that abomination. It was like it still kept on charging them on and on and on until they fried. So the charging led kept flashing. A dangerous device.

    • I like the 12 V DC feature of yours…

I once got several a bit like the one in this Deal, but each cost ~Au $12 shipped.

      • Same maker makes an i4 along with this d4, the i version is cheaper. Also comes in i2, i4, d2 and d4.

        • +1

          Maybe:

          • i = Indicator (LED?)
          • d = Display?
        • @IVI:
          Probably.

        • I'd recommend avoiding the i4. It has ruined batteries. Just plain aa's.

    • Never liked the idea of such a low charge rate on the Nitecore (especially at 4x). That Opus looks a bit more capable.
Really just need an 18650 charger @ 1000ma or more, using a C9000 for my AA/AAA's, but if going to get another charger would be good to be able to charge another 4 AA/AAA's with it if needed.

Have to keep my eye out for a deal on the Opus.

There's also these for ~US$36 and ~US$31, not sure of the difference between them apart from the display, features look ok but cant comment on quality.

      • the LCD-B ($31) model has three charge current settings, but the LCD-D ($36) only has two. Also, the LCD-D can discharge the batteries and do a capacity test.

    • I bought that model Opus Charger when it was $36 back in February. It works perfectly, and has an easy to read display. The only complaint I can think of is the cooling fan… but I suppose when charging four batteries at 1A each it gets a bit warm! Cycles well, and also charges NiMH batteries that usually trigger false charge termination without a drama… must be a side-effect of the pulsing nature of it's output. Running off a 12v solar system without any issues.

  • better price than ebay and aliexpress!

here is a simpler and cheaper alternative that i bought on monday (which was finally sent on thursday):
    http://www.dx.com/p/soshine-sc-u1-v2-4-slot-aa-aaa-intellige…

~14.60aud, no screen, no li-ion charging, smaller, faster aa but slower aaa charging, eu cable, 4 channels, led indicators.

  • +1

Make sure you request that they ship yours with an AU plug. There should be a comment field in the checkout page where you can do so.

Like others have said, this thing is no frills, cheap but gets the job done and has useful visual charging indicators for each slot. AAA batteries don't seat neatly and can take a little fiddling with to get charging, and the supplied AU adapter I got with mine was highly suspect, so I swapped the power cable with an ordinary AU C7 figure 8 power cable from another power supply.

  • Very handy charger because it does everything.

  • any deals on 18650 batteries ?

    • The Samsung ICR18650-26F 2600 mAh cells on Fasttech are at 7.86 USD for a pair. I don't think you'll find trusted brands for any cheaper than that. Shipping to Australia can be up to $2 going down the more you spend, free options available if you spend > $20 and there's expedited Auspost for $2.50 (>$20). I actually purchased some an hour ago.

Use code "BLF" for 5% off.

They also have Panasonic NCR18650[|A|B] cells for a decent price (15 USD for a pair of Bs, 3400 mAh). Banggood should be a similar price for these (code BLF is 10% off), though I prefer dealing with FT.

Warning: if you buy high capacity 18650s, make sure the charger supports the max voltage. I think the Panasonic ones are the only ones that go above 2600 mAh at 4.2 V. Samsung goes up to 4.3/4.35 V from 2800 mAh onwards. The charger in this post does not charge above 4.2 V, so any extra capacity is wasted.

Also, beware cell length. Unprotected cells are 65 mm; protected cells are often 69 mm and maybe longer. The charger in this post only supports up to ~69 mm. If you're using these in torches, you shouldn't need a protected cell unless you're stacking multiple 18650s in a single torch, or your torch is badly designed (most good ones will detect low voltage and start flashing). Protected cells often don't fit in the single-cell torches anyway.

      • +1 for fasttech, but ONLY use the Australian Expedited Air option for batteries or you'll have a bad time.

  • Thanks OP, had my eye on this charger for a while and this small price drop was a good enough trigger.

Is there anything special you need to sign up for to get sent codes like this? I have a Banggood account but didn't receive this promo.

  • Hi all, anybody care to comment on this charger?
    http://www.aliexpress.com/item/BM200-Upgrade-to-BT-C2000-Int…

  • Nice

  • I just purcahsed the i4 aswell as some TrustFire 18650 and 14500s from FastTech.
My order was duplicated so up for sale on gumtree if anyone is interested.

    Negotiable on price;
    http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/rosemeadow/other-electronics-…

  • For anyone interested in this deal just thought id put it out there that you can actually get these cheaper than the deal price from aliexpress, I personally might just get the D2 for ~$16us but there is D4's on there for [edit wrong price before] ~$22USD now

    • UPDATE:

      ~WARNING~~

Banggood (and other suppliers) are reportedly selling COUNTERFEIT nitecore chargers as discussed HERE - http://budgetlightforum.com/node/37889

Be careful about where you get yours, because, as I have found out if the price is too cheap it will possibly be a fake.

There is a online tool on nitecore to verify if you have a valid product (http://charger.nitecore.com/validation), if you have a counterfeit I would recommend filing a paypal dispute first, even if you get a refund it would be good to have paypal take note of who is selling counterfeit products.

      EDIT:
EDIT: Seems I didnt read through the thread properly, and it might just be a problem with the nitecore validation, but I would still be suspicious if the price is very cheap and it would still be good to validate your chargers when you get them.

EDIT:the fact there is online validation says to me there are indeed counterfeit nitecore chargers out there weather or not they are sold through bangood I dont know

      • Banggood have sold Nitecore gear for a long time, and to many people on that forum you link in the thousands of units from torches to chargers. Its never been shown, including in that thread, that Banggood are selling fakes.

The problem appears to be with the validation system.

      • Wasn't there something on their site about genuine ones having copper terminals, the positive side shouldn't be magnetic but the fakes are.

        • Something like that. But only units made after and sometime during 2014. It complicates the issue if yours fails the magnet test. I think the D4 straddles both periods so if it passes then fine, but if it fails it doesnt mean its fake. So still not completely helpful, yet.
