You do have some states that enforce different maximum speed limits for P1/P2 licence's (red/green) which generally recommend that you have plates that display your maximum speed limit but as long as actual P plates are displayed I've never heard of any ticket being written out for not having the speed limit displayed on them. Keep in mind, I am QLD trained.

Not a big deal. Magnetic ones tend to fall off. Vinyl ones crinkle up if you have to take them off (like you must if you are driving and not the learner). The best ones are suction cup ones on the inside of the car. Easy to take off when needed and last as long as you need them. Try to get the transparent suction cups, so when you take off the L plates they are almost invisible.
Also, buy an extra suction cup rear view mirror from Super Cheap or similar so that the supervisor can easily see what is behind the vehicle. It makes a big difference. Driving instructors are required to have them and it is a good idea for Mums and Dads too. $20 well spent.
