Good Guys - Bosch 6.5kg Heat Pump Dryer [Model No. WTW86200AU] ($1699) [RRP $2500]

130

Not for everyone on here i am sure but with the weather changing and if anyone else has a growing family this should save time without adding much to the energy bill

RRP is $2500
http://www.bosch-home.com.au/appliances/laundry/tumble-dryer…

Also good guys has $50 credit for pickup (over $400 spend)
http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/click-collect-get-credit

Edit as a crude analysis:

This Bosch has an energy rating of 120kwh
another Bosch (which is $839) running at 2 stars is 315kwh
http://www.appliancesonline.com.au/7kg-bosch-dryer-wta74200a…

making a price difference of ~$850

So comparing running them for 1 hour everyday with a kwh at $0.25 an hour
315/120*0.25 = 0.65 an hour more expensive

850/0.65 = 1300 hours for parity

If a load takes 2 hours (although pretty the heat pump would go longer so its not a fair comparison)
then if you did a 2 hour load every day the ROI is 1300/2 = 650 times ie approx 2 years

There's a bit of fudge in that analysis though so take it with a grain of salt

  • Thats absurdly expensive. Is it really possible that energy savings could justify the cost price? Numbers please?

I'm in sunny Perth, and hardly use my tumbler, but apartment-dwellers with lots of kids might benefit.

There are some numbers in here of other products

Edt: my crude analysis determined it's a 2 year ROI - but had a bias for the heat pump!
A cheaper brand dryer would perform better in the comparison

Admittedly the ROI is probably quite large however there are some additional benefits about condensation, overall energy saving, can dry a larger range of fabrics safely and some anti-crease options to avoid ironing. Unfortunately this is newer technology (but has been in Europe for a while) and the prices are still rather high comparitively

It didn't seem to be economical to try shipping whitegoods from the UK though!

It likely depends where you live, how big your family is and how often you do loads - how long you might want to spend ironing etc

Note these can't be wall mounted, that is the killer for me.

    • +2

I think you can stack them (with an appropriate washer), but the unit is about 50kg so it's a bit of a hazard

      • +2

We have a similar version stacked and it's not an issue. I paid about $2k and it makes me feel a little better it's 6 stars because I use the dryer for just about everything.

  • We had a maytag Natural Gas dryer in the 1980's. So cheap to run. Gas Dryers are almost standard in the U.S.A. I am not sure why they did not catch on in Australia since homes have gas outlet sockets in the living room for gas heaters and in the balcony for gas barbecues.
