lol thought i saw panasonic. still decent deal

  • anyone tell me why 4K TVs are getting cheaper and cheaper these days? I know this is not a big brand TV but still…. Is there something new coming out thats better then 4K ?

    • +1

Big brands still hold the price firmly

There have been a number of 8K TV's displayed at electronic shows, however they will not be released to retailers for a number of years. 4K televisions are getting cheaper just because of the additional competition and cheaper production costs, just like any other emerging technologies.

lack of 4k material and oversupply of 30hz screens

        • ok thanks guys

Just thought being a New Tech would hold its price better. You still a big brand one thats a decent size for $4kish where it was $10k

        • i blame the lack of implementation of hdmi2.0 control board

        • +8

i'd rather have a high quality FHD 50" for the same price to be honest

          @tonyjzx:

          Same here.

        • My 55inch 4k LG poops all over the 55 FHD LG that it replaced. Most surprising is that freeview is handled far better by the 4k tv. Really happy that I made the upgrade on that basis alone. Only paid $1500 for it.

  • The details state: Refresh Rate (Hz) - 100. Would that apply to the 4K

    • +1

for that price…i doubt it, but then again that's a good spot!

    • +1

      I wouldn't count on it.

      • i think outside of NASA or the NSA, no screen does 4k @ 100hz

Wonder how many will confuse this for Panasonic, get their hopes up and then finally realise it's a Palsonic. But a nice price for a 50" 4K TV. Still it's not a big brand TV.

  • What the hell does an ELED have to do with a TV? Companies are already confusing people enough with terms like "LED-LCD", although going by this companies name its their usual trick.

As mentioned you would be better off putting the $649 towards a first class 1080p TV. The only use for 4K over the next 12 months is limited to a few shows on Netflix and maybe 4K Blu Ray in 12-24 months. For FTA TV and DVD it is pretty useless.

You're spot on. The early 4k adopter$ are probably still crying.

      • Wrong. Both my 4K TVs are far superior at showing FTA. Couldn't be happier with the performance and price. And I can watch my GoPro and GH4 videos in 4k, plus watch 4K YouTube content.
I watch FTA almost 99.9 percent of the time and I am happy that I upgraded just for the better FTA. In fact I remember having buyer remorse when I changed from plasma FHD to LED FHD. Glad to have a decent TV back.

        • How is the 4K TV superior at showing FTA?. None of the FTA channels even transmit in 4K but max at 1080i. There wouldn't be any difference at all when it comes to FTA.

        • @hollykryten: In the same way the plasma could render a better picture than the LED, the 4K tv can render a better picture also. Its not just about the number of pixels coming down the line, its about how the device processes it into a picture. Eg. There would be a different upscaling process for displaying on a 4K screen as compared to a FHD screen.

        • @RustyStainless:

Correct - it is about how the device processes the picture, and my point was you can find great 1080p TVs that will do a great job for far less.

Regardless, I assume your 4K TV is not this Palsonic LOL

        • @MrMaxwell: No, not this tv, but don't write off the Palsonic brand. I had a Palsonic anologue tv that I bought in the early 1990s. It did regular duty at home for about 10yrs before being put in my wife shop where it ran 9hrs per day, 5 days a week, for another 10 years before she finally died. We replaced it with a ….. Palsonic ☺

        • @RustyStainless:

No offence…but I am writing off this $649 4K Palsonic. Making a great analogue TV in the 90s has no bearing whatsoever on their ability to produce a quality digital product 25yrs later.

If someone needs a cheap 4K TV then go for it but keep expectations super low.

        • @MrMaxwell: I think you missed the bit where I said we replaced it with a new one - as in digital lcd about 18 months ago and it is on full time duties in the shop. You really need to know where the panel is sourced from. Palsonic does not make 4k panels. There are only a few manufacturers and the smaller companies assemble with there own trimmings. Based on my experience with Palsonic, I highly recommend, but your mileage may vary.
