I am sure this is building a false economy for the restaurants to use delivery hero, they assume they get a lot of business since joining little do they now its part of a marketing budget.
Business is business, although not the best if they plan and budget for it to be continued.
true but some of them must be aware of the deals given the massive influx of orders starting all of a sudden (and probably when DH contacts them to resolve various reported issues) and then dropping off when there isn't a deal
Our local pizza joint has "closed" on delivery hero permanently probably because of the massive influx of customers from the site which they can't cope with, probably with all those coupons and they had a very low minimum order and delivery fee… They're still open on menu log and eatnow though.

I think alot of people have the same issue. Only a pizza place is worthwhile for me, the rest charge delivery and their minimum orders are too high.
One is $20 delivery for me in Melbs. Its about 2 or 3 suburbs away so they just figure they will make it $20 to deliver to my area. Doubt people would ever be that desperate!!!

Fellow Sydneysiders, IMO tip your delivery guy a couple bucks tonight - this storm is absolutely ridiculous and I doubt they're getting extra cash for delivering in this nightmare. Especially if they're coming via scooter or on foot like my local thai does.
EDIT: To those who disagree, I have seriously never tipped before in Australia. But this weather is absolutely insane and I genuinely think a delivery guy is risking their safety trying to make deliveries tonight. The guideline is always "tip in extraordinary circumstances", and I think your local trying to fulfil an order in this storm qualifies as extremely extraordinary circumstances.

I agree about tipping otherwise in Australia, I don't think I've ever even done it before, but are you in Sydney proper right now? This is pretty cyclonic, to the point that I'm worried my bedroom windows are going to crack from the wind. I can't ever remember seeing consistently bad weather like this before.

I think so, today afternoon I called them regarding refunding my yesterdays order (some issue with the delivery). The guy was saying that even today they will be releasing a code which we need to enter in our phone app. But I didn't bothered at that time.

They'll just write it off as marketing expenses. This round here, I reckon they just wanted to test the reliability of their servers when inundated with orders (i.e: such as during NYE, Xmas, etc). You can write it off as operating expenses as well. I suppose this is much better because they know who are the targeted customers, instead of aimlessly spending thousands on radio and television ads.

I tried a new restaurant which was spruiking a "10% off for new customers" coupon code - but their coupon doesn't work. Should I bother to log it as an issue with delivery hero? It would have saved me another $2.50. It wouldn't work even before I used the -$15 coupon.

Most restaurants don't open for dinner delivery until 5pm or something. It would have just ticked over for predorder to being available "asap".
