Was looking for lenses for my new mirrorless camera, and found out that most the lenses are cheaper here than US.
The cheapest I can find is on Dwi Digital for AUD399, and that's grey import. It costs USD 427.99 at BH Photo (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/986097-REG/panasonic_h…)

  • Any deals on Oly 25mm f1.8?

    • I'm sure Uncle Google will tell you, you know, save the OP from having to do all the work.

    • +2

If you can wear the brunt (if that's it's only downside), of the perks of the pana-leica 25mm, I'd suggest going for that over the oly. It just has more character for me. My Oly 25mm spends most of it's time in my bag unless I feel I want a bit more intimacy over the oly 17mm 1.8.

Just my opinion anyway, but the 25mm is definitely clinical no doubt, nice and sharp and the aperture difference ever so slight. Just lacks any warmth or character FOR ME.

If you don't already know, oly is lighter, smaller, faster (focusing… marginal) and has a reversible lens hood and is better corrected on oly bodies.

Pana-leica = character. Slower (but not slow by any means) focus, possible rattlesnake issue with focus motor, no reversible hood and possible purple fringing/blob issues on Olympus bodies.

If the trade wasn't too different price wise, I'd definitely consider trading my oly for the panaleica! YMMV

Good post by the way OP. Gerrygibbs and digidirect often have great prices and random specials/sales also, good to compare them against each other.

This is a great price for a great lens and definitely an option you should consider also. (happy medium between 35mm and 50mm equiv.)

      • great info, thx db87

      • Thanks for that mate. Panny 25 is very expensive. I bit the bullet on this one. Amazing price . will be getting gst back at the airport. So overall a good deal.

        • Enjoy!

  • Stunning lens, great price! Thanks :)

Great Lens, only bad thing is the slightly slow AF which can be bad when trying to take photos of quick moving objects.

    • +1

Agreed, and it can get horribly lost when using AF in video mode. But for night party photography THIS IS THE BOMB! This lens stays on the front of my Olympus EM5. And the compactness makes it a dream to carry.

on a side note interesting to see BH Photo have cheap international shipping now ( that lens is only $10 for shipping )

    • It's cheap, but don't let the DHL branding fool you. It's just as slow as USPS, at least the last time I used it!

    • I ordered a bunch of stuff recently took about 2 weeks.

      • I placed my last order on the 26th of Jan. I received the package on the 13th of Feb. That's about 2.5 weeks total - similar to USPS. At least it's cheaper than USPS and has reasonable tracking!

I want a crazy deal on the 40-150mm f/2.8 pro!!

    • There was one…. Last year!

        Link? was this gerry gibbs?

  • This is a great lens. More metal than version 1 makes it feel nicer.

  • So tempted!!!

  • +1

Nice but prefer the oly 17mm instead.

    • Agree. I had this lens but after getting the Oly 17mm I never used it again. The 20mm takes great photos, but the Auto Focus was just too slooooowwwww….

      • any deal on the 17mm?

      • Yes the AF put me off too, so I sold it.

  • +1

That is bizarre when they're selling the 14mm for $539. Wonder if they mixed the prices up.

I have this lens, but hate it for video. Lovely for stills though. As long as they stay still.

This is an awesome lens. I picked one up for $170 from JB hi fi narre because they were getting rid of stock. Bargain of the century!

    • nice work! ☺

  • If you have a decent M43 body and dont have this lens, buy it.
My fave M43 lens for sure.
Really sharp, great looking images. Really small and 40mm is a really nice focal length, just that bit closer than 35mm but without the issues of 50mm.

    • Is/was the gf3 enough decent?

      • Yeah. If thats what you have been shooting on it will still be great.
Not sure if you are only using the kit lens or something but this is 100 times better. You can do real photography with it.

        • Thanks, I actually bought the gf 3 for my gf a few years ago. Hate its "touch screen". But my d800 is heavy….

  • How does it compare to the Oly 25mm f/1.8? I have it so won't purchase this, just curious

    • +1

I've had/have both. IQ wise, not much in it unless into the pixel peeping. Usability wise, the Oly 25mm kills it with nice, fast auto focus.

The pancake design is really nice though.

    • I like the 20mm much more, i sold my oly 25mm.
The autofocus is great on the Oly, but i really didnt like the way it rendered things. It was really sharp, but something clinical about it just didnt compare to the 20mm.

  • I bought one of these around a year ago (version 1 though), loved the quality!

However, between the 14mm with Sony's wide angle adpater and 45mm, I hardly used this..

If anyone is looking for the version 1 of this, let me know :)

    LaMMi

    • LaMMi, I'm interested in your old version. Please enable your PM option and message me, thanks.

  • @CameraPro, give us the E-M1 12-40 PRO kit back on sale please. I might get that and this lens.

  • I have this and a MFT camera body from years ago. Can anybody recommend a good (value main consideration) MFT body to use this with?
