Have used these guys for a trip a bit over a year ago where an iPhone 5 was stolen in an Doha airport. As we did not know this until we were bak in Melbourne, we were unable to get the usual police reports etc.. Southern Cross was quite flexible with this and allowed us to submit a claim anyway and it all went through fine.
They processed the value against a depreciation schedule. The phone was about a year old and they paid out roughly 75% of its value (I think the idea is that the value decreases 25% per year).
All in all happy with them as provider as I think they were one of the cheapest at the time.

    • I lost my laptop last year. I left it in a dorm room to charge. They had locked lockers available, but I couldn't charge it while they were inside the lockers. Did a proper police report with serial numbers and all. They didn't pay the insurance because they said that I should have used the lockers. Maybe this is normal for insurers, I don't know.

  • Thanks. Perfect timing.

  • Don't forget the complimentary insurance on BankWest Zero credit cards :)

    • Thanks for this info. They have a $500 trip limit. You need to spend at least $500 on the trip before leaving. So if you've ozbargained your trip, you may need to spend some more on the credit card before leaving.

  • This a cheaper alternative than paying for insurance when renting a car interstate. I use these guys just for the peace of mind that I won't have to pay a $3000 excess if the car is damaged. The rest of the cover is a 'free' bonus.

  • Bear in mind, I don't think they cover you til after you leave the country, so not sure if a delay on a domestic flight would be covered?
