the issue here being - will you actually receive your order

    • +5

I don't think you can complain about not receiving a freebie that was ozbargained.

I've found RS Components professional to deal with as a wholesaler.

    • I actually received my socket set - took about 6 weeks, but worth the wait, nice little set.

  • +2

Doesnt seem to work for Raspberry Pi 2…

    • Didn't work for me either

    • not working for me too! about to neg the post.

    • Didn't work on non R-pi stuff for me as well…

  • I love their name. I mean I usually go shopping for a new component when my old one is R.S.

    • I always thought it stood for "really spensive"!
(it actually use to stand for RadioSpares)
Mainly used them if we needed something quick or for prototyping (i.e. small qtys).

  • Carn someone tell me which Pi I should buy, why it matters, and why the one with a case is a whole 15 bucks more?

    • +1

Definitely Pi 2 - it's a new version, more powerful and better in many ways.
You can buy a case cheaper from ebay, aliexpress etc.

  • About to get a RPI A+. But showed me: "Temporarily out of stock - back order for despatch 23/07/2015…" Nearly 3 month? It either Made in Mars or this year is 1985…

Can anybody find any bargains? Even with the 10% discount, I can't find anything yet that isn't significantly cheaper elsewhere. The fact you need to order multiples of nearly everything also negates most deals. Nearly everything I found is cheaper to buy retail at Jaycar, or if it's cheaper at RS Components, you have to order 5 or 10 minimum whereas at Jaycar you can just buy one.

Rep, please actually list some BARGAINS, something that's cheaper than other stores. I haven't found any yet. If you don't, this post should be deleted as it's simply advertising spam. If you don't post any bargains I'll be forced to neg.

    • They're not really a consumer-level retailer, they cater to professionals.

Their catalogue is a 1000 page phone book of electronic components.

      • That doesn't mean it belongs on OzBargain. 10% off doesn't necessarily mean bargain. I buy HEAPS of electronics components and can understand the need for places like RS Components, but have always found it much cheaper to purchase from DigiKey, Wagner, Mouser or other places overseas.

        • It would be a bargain if you had a 100k/month account and you brought a couple of months purchasing up so you could save 20k

        • @Jackson: Not if you could get the same $100k worth of stuff for $80k somewhere else anyway. I'm just asking, where is the bargain?

        • @greenie4242: if you are on the clock working and earn 100 an hour billing, and to get the same 300 parts you need to deal with 30 shops, it makes a big difference. It's a false economy to be doing that running around. RS tries to provide a complete service like this. I know this is probably conaidered normal for Ozbargain but thats probably benchmarked against doing nothing sitting on the couch, not working amd charging someone.

Also i believe they are the only Aussie distributor for Raspberry Pis and so the only official channel here to get one

        • @Jackson: Convenience =/= bargain

I've looked up 17 different items that I need to order within the next week, and 15 were 30-80% more expensive than nearby retailers and wholesalers, and two items were THREE TIMES the price. I can pick up all those items in less than an hour from within fifteen minutes drive of my office and save more than $480. It took me longer to search the RS Components website than it would have to purchase everything. So in fact this 'deal' has wasted MY time. I requested a list of actual bargains from OP but had no response.

Yes, companies like RS Components have their place, but I don't think companies that are happy to pay $380 for a box of Ethernet cable that every other wholesaler sells for $120 will care too much about a 10% discount anyway.

        • @greenie4242: in their defence they have thousands of products, but yes they should be able to keep track of them all and be able to provide reasonable prices. It would be interesting to know how many of their products are or are not competitively priced on a larger scale or if your 17 are truly a random sample. Maybe pick at least 30 products randomly and we woukd have a good picture. Another interesting question would be to know even factoring in the 30 to 80% markup exactly how much that puts you out of pocket and if thr hour is worth itm

I do agree though that businesses like RS are not always the cheapest and specialise in a business to business model where the benefits are other things, some of which have been eroded with the advent of the internet.

  • Just bought $300 of Fluke gear, the code accepted but did not show against the total all the way through the checkout process, was going to get the stuff anyway so I went ahead,

When they sent me the Order email, the 10% had been deducted.
