  • hahahahahaha dude just made another insurance sale..

    • But it was $2 cheaper with the warranty.

Mmm I think you're missing the point, and I could be wrong but it would seem like he could go closer to $135 without insurance. He sold 'warranty' because he makes more money on it.

So called 'warranty' is a lie anyway when you get manufacturers warranty through consumer law.

Naturally you need to consider why he'd anchor you to a price of $164, then give you 'more' for less.

  • So looks like salespeople make a packet on warranty sales so make odd offers like this to customers?

    • +3

Mm, he probably could have gone lower than 164 without the warranty. Warranty is mainly a scam anyway, you're covered by Australian consumer law for the time you would reasonably expect a product to last, regardless of what they claim the warranty period is.

unfortunately most people are not aware of this

        • Yup.. according to my marketing class it's something like 85% of people don't, which is crazy. Not sure if that's true but still, I see people fall for extended warranty shit all the time.

The only time I think it is worth it is for things like apple care and the eb games insurance, both of those cover things like accidental damage that would never be covered by consumer law or most other warranties.

      • yeh it would be better if they gave everyone ( supplier , retailer and customer ) a proper guide to how long things should last. Then there would still be a place for warranties and people could get a fair time from their products.

What would be a fair time for a kobo glow to last before servicing by the customer is reasonable?

  • Standard glo is on sale at big w currently if you can find one in stock. $60.

    • Readlly? I went to bigw last Friday and only saw kobo touch priced at $60

      • Yeah, purchased one myself on Wednesday from underwood in Brisbane.

        • well that is an absolute steal if you can get the older glo for $60. Definitely a lit screen??

        • @Gravy:

Definitely. Was reading in the pitch black in bed last night. My eyesight isn't that good ;)

I should also mention is clearance stock so they may be tricky to find. When I called up the City branch they didn't have any but we're helpful giving me a couple of stores in the "sticks" the usually carry the clearance stock longer.

        • That's a bargin! When I went, no special signs on the glo at all..

        • @xixia: plenty of stock last week at the highpoint big w store if you're looking for the kobo glo.. It's not marked for $60.. Scans for $60- also available at the sunshine,Vic, store.

        • @trippyfoo: Thanks! I was at highpoint last Friday and indeed saw a lot of kobo glo there but the price is not marked down, so I walked away..lol

    • Thanks for that - I already have one from last time at $79, but just called and went into Macquarie Centre Big W and picked up a couple for $60 each. Plenty of Kobo Touch (no backlight) as well, marked price is $128 but scanned price is also $60.

    • Wow… I picked up 2 Kobo Glo today at Coffs Harbour Park Beach Plaza Big W. They were in a cabinet and marked at $50.01 each. I think they may have been the last 2 left though. They appear to be display stock as package was opened and a little damaged, but the devices themselves still had screen protector on and no marks at all. They were originally marked as $168, then $60, then $50.01

      Bargain.

  • +2

Not sure where the bargain is? JB are known to discount on purchases when asked, so this is just comes down to whatever the store/salesperson arbitrarily sets?

    • With the posting of a receipt I'd consider it okay

  • at $60 for the glo, i'll go buy another,
those screens are fragile when you've three year olds running around, i'm on my second in 12 months

  • got one last week for $153 - receipt
Asked for a better price than Zylax computers, the first shop that come up on staticice results.
