    No 4G :/

    • +2

      well not everyone needs 4g..

      • +3

Besides, 4G is a battery drain.

    • I noticed there is not much stock anymore, maybe preparing for 3rd Gen

      1GB = no deal.

      • 8GB ROM won't do much. A shop's display phone only had around 4.5GB free.

  • +3

Which company they trying to match?

    • The good guys is having the same price.

      • i didnt know that. but when i asked the guy how much it was he said it was 268, and that they were not on special… it scanned at 229 though.

  • Same price as Good Guys so this isn't too special. (edit: Woops this is mentioned above)

    It's $10 more at Kogan.

  • With the $2xx Zenfone 2 this is not a bargain anymore.

    • I have to agree even the lower end ZE550ML gives the 1+1 a run for it's money.

Really the Asus seems to offer unbelievable value.

      • I just picked up a ZE550ML.. $50 more than this thing and so much better its laughable..

crap asus android software skin with no latest updates. Ill stick with the Moto, also its way too big at 5.5 inches

      • +1

Don't a few popular Apps (eg. Instagram) freeze/crash on Zenfone 2 due to it's ARM instruction CPU?

        • -1

exactly, id trust a qualcomm snapdragon over intel any day

        • +3

Though with ASUS sellings these phones and more Chinese producers using Intel CPU, I think it would get better, hopefully. Though I don't think this kind of price would go on for long, since Intel has been losing fair bit of money on mobile CPU due to them subsidising the CPUs (thus these ridiculously good price).

Though, the thing that makes me slightly concerned is more on games than apps. Most games and stuff are not optimised for Intel CPU/GPU on Android. If you look at the benchmark scores, Intel ones usually score very high scores, but I've heard issues with games stuttering and stuff because of optimisation problems.

Are there any tough cases for this model? Otterbox only does the first generation Moto G.

Better buy S3(with 2GB RAM and 4G)from Kmart at this price range.

    • +1

its good but the software and updates availability is poor

      • True that. My wife has the S3 4G (2GB RAM) and its stuck on Android 4.3. My mother now has the Moto G 2014 and she is running a newer version of Android. No bloat, and its great for her as she doesnt run any heavy apps or need 4G, and mainly uses it for calls, sms and emails.

Rooting and custom roms are available, though I think it's really bad for the company to neglect these areas nor I think it gives that negligence any excuses. It's an option and that's all I am saying.

In terms of hardware S3 4G is definitely better though.

same price at good guys, probably OW just want to avoid price match

Good phone at this price if you don't need 4G. Can be a little slow at times due to RAM, but for a phone a quarter of the price of my last one it's great.

Build quality is excellent, as is the screen, feels very solid in hand. Battery life is very good as well. My main issue is with occasional crashes, but these appear to be Lollipop related, rather than the phone.

agree with everything, 5.1 will fix the ram management/crashing

      • Not will, has. Im running 5.1 on my Nexus 5 and its a god send compared to the mess that was 5.0.

        • Moto G 2014 will likely get it at the end of May/start of June

  • love this phone been using for about 3 months now

  • The contrast for black colours looks washed out to me.

"Plus, hold onto your favourite games and films thanks to the Moto G phone's 8 GB storage capacity." amazing

  • These are a pretty good phone. But the 1gb ram is kinda sucky and they really need 4g. I got a mlais m52 recently found for about $150 aud and have to say performance wise it is pretty impressive. Some of the China phones are really good at the moment.

Xiaomi are great if you want ongoing updates (weekly actually).

  • Thanks!!

    • I bought it from Good Guys… They sold it for $225; seems like a great phone.

      • yeah it is and bonus that it comes pre-installed with lollipop 5.0.1, my galaxy s4 is still on 4.4 how pathetic..

  • Did you buy a case with the phone? (If not, did you notice if they had any?)

    • officeworks didnt have anything for them, not even screen protectors!

  • Is it worth the extra money over a Huawei Y550 or for that matter 2 of them if you need dual SIM?

    • depends on what you are looking for, need and/or want. imo i prefer Motorola over Huawei
