  • ood find. thanks op

    Thanks such an awesome price. Was waiting for Bose Soundlink Mini discount but you can buy 2 of these for 1 of those! Hopefully sound is good

    • +2

      The Boom is louder, but has less smooth low end. Definitely quite comparable, but definitely different. I've got my own, just bought one to gift because at this price they're definitely excellent value.

      The biggest difference, though, is I'm not afraid to toss my Boom into my bag without caring about if it's going to get damaged, or take it to the beach and risk it getting slightly wet, or …

  • +2

    Don't forget 2% cashback via cashrewards!

  • Good price. Can you swap out the rechargeable battery?
    I have a big jambox and the battery is knackered now and only holds charge for about 15mins and is not swappable. Bricked.

    • I think you can't. I'm not keen to buy any of these speaker units if you can't change the battery.

      They all use some specific proprietory batteries I wish there are ones that uses AAA or USB powered so you can just use a powerbank replacable.

      • +2

        UE boom uses standard USB charger plug, so powerbank should work?

        • True but the battery inside might not hold up charge after a year. I suppose its nice to have the USB power bank connect permanently to it if the battery is no good any more.

        • @neonlight:
          The sony x3 you can open up and I believe it uses 18650s so I imagine you could very easily replace them if they died. Not sure about these but might be able to do the same.

  • Tempted to pick one up.

  • I got this for ~$135 though Officeworks price beat in Jan-15. Can anyone confirm that this would work again?

    • Well according to the T&C for OW Price Match

      What items are excluded from the LPG?
      * Non identical products and services (inclusive of non identical warranties)
      * Package deals i.e. printer and computer bundles
      * Cash back and coupon offers
      * Resellers
      * Customer special orders
      * Contract Pricing
      * Competitor clearance products

      Since this offer requires the coupon code CPICKUP15; I don't think they'll price match. But then again, it depends on the employee.

  • +1

    I think this is the lowest price ever for the speaker. Steel Blue looks cool as well. Thanks OP. Ordered one (even I have recently bought Sony SRX-3)

    • +1

      nope. $95 was lowest and 2% cashback

      • I forgot the cashback haha. Well for 2% = $2, I would not too much regret though haha. But when was it $95? I must miss that.

        • During those 1 hour eBay sales where every 5minutes there was a new item on sale.

  • +1

    Thanks, OP - Now I will have stereo sound when I'm working outdoors!

    • Did you buy two?

      • +1

        I had one from a while back - it looked lonely.

  • +1

    Thanks OP, been waiting for these to drop to around this price as well!

    Forgot the cashback too, lol.

  • Literally bought 2 of these yesterday :|

    • +1

      If they're unopened, buy from this deal and return the ones you bought yesterday.

  • +1

    thanks bought 2x blue UE Booms for stereo mode

  • +1

    Out of stock now for both.

  • Damn just missed it :(

    I have a Nexus Player. Here's a short review.

    • The Plex App doesn't direct play all movies, even with the option checked. My Avatar BR RIP, for example, stutters a lot during playback because it's being trans-coded by my under powered N36L.
    • Kodi / XBMC plays the videos better than Plex but still isn't perfect.
    • A surprise app, Archos Video Player, plays my rips without issue. I don't always use it so I'm not sure how perfect it is, but so far it seems like the most capable player for Android TV (IMO). I still use Plex and Netflix.
    • The Netflix app apparently doesn't play it's audio at 5.1. I'm not experiencing this as I am using my Nexus Player in my bedroom using TV speakers.
    • The Nexus Player doesn't have an Ethernet port, but works with an OTG cable & USB Ethernet. I can't tell you which specific USB Ethernet adapter I'm using as I'm not at home right now.
    • If you're TV supports CEC (my Samsung uses Anynet+) your TV remote will work to navigate the Nexus Player. Also, when turning off the TV the player will stop playing.
    • +1

      The Netflix app apparently doesn't play it's audio at 5.1.

      Easily fixed now, see this - http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/05/15/netflix-2-0-for-andr…

      I have done it and 5.1 now works.

      Yep, Plex will not direct play, it is useless for me. Kodi is far superior so not an issue.
      I have the Kogan USB 3 to Ethernet adapter, it has slower throughput than WiFi class N. If getting an adapter, make sure it is USB 2 so there are less driver issues. I don;t use the Kogan one any more.

      your TV remote will work to navigate the Nexus Player.

      I use a USB IR adapter and my Harmony 650.

      • htpc or nexus player?

        or something else?

        • 100% depends on your needs and budget. Just need a streamer and media player, the NP will be cheaper of course. I will most likely get an Nvidia Shield TV to try as well.

        • @snuke:

          I like to play local content..

          does this play

          How good is the player for playing local content?
          -mkv
          -mp4
          -wmv
          -etc…

          How good is Kodi on this? Can you install kodi 15 beta 1?

          How fast is wifi streaming
          and ethernet connection?

          It's dumb no builtin ethernet

    • With the nexus player

      ======

      What wifi does it use?
      how fast is it?

      Any stutter?

      How fast is the usb ethernet?

      How good is the player for playing local content
      -mkv
      -mp4
      -wmv
      -etc…

      ==

      It's pretty dumb that they got no built in ethernet…

      • What wifi does it use?

        802.11 ac 2x2 (MIMO)

        How fast is the usb ethernet?

        Depends on the adapter, results vary greatly from nothing to very good.

        How good is the player for playing local content

        I use Kodi, and it is pretty good. Played everything I have tried, no wmv in my library. It doesn't have 24P playback due to Android limitation. Apparently there is a fix from Google, but it is too buggy at the moment.

        It's pretty dumb that they got no built in ethernet…

        Yes, the Forge TV and Nvidia Shield TV have ethernet. The Forge TV seems to be a dud at the moment, including no Netflix. Nvidia Shield TV looks the goods, it also has a built in IR receiver and confirmed to have 4K Netflix. Nvidia is also H.265 compatible. Should be released in the US next week, who knows for other countries.

        Edit: to answer the question in your other post, yes you can load Kodi 15.

        • Can you install kodi 15 beta 1?

          Is the ethernet 1gigabit? or 100mb?

          Does wifi streaming cause stutter using Kodi and
          720p, 1080p content like mkv, mp4 files?

          Do u have an AC wifi router?

          How well would this work/stream with wifi n?

        • +1

          @tyler.durden:

          Is the ethernet 1gigabit? or 100mb?

          Don't know, but does it really matter? What are you planning on doing that would require gigabit speeds to a streaming device?

          Does wifi streaming cause stutter using Kodi and 720p, 1080p content like mkv, mp4 files?

          No, I don't use my ethernet adapter any more, just WiFi (class N 5Ghz) and have no issues with 18GB MKVs with DTS audio. My WD TV plays it better, but that is because the WD will do 24P playback.

          I got telstra cable modem - CG3100D-2BPAUS how would it work with ac wifi?

          Sorry, I did just copy the spec from the Google page, it does work with older classes of WiFi too, no just AC. Thi sis normal for all router. You modem will be fine, it is class N, as is mine.

        • @snuke:

          gigabit is important for 4k tv, streaming etc..
          also a ethernet connection is less likely to stutter than wifi streaming..

          ==
          that's interesting u said 18gb mkv don't have issue with wifi streaming.

          ==
          it might work with it, but it would be limited to wifi n speed, which is much slower i think only at 30mb/s vs 90mbps (AC speed)

          ===

          Does this support 5.1 channel mkv?

          ===
          Now that you used it for how long?

          Would you buy this device again? or something else like roku 3 etc..

        • @tyler.durden:

          To answer this and you PM

          Yes cheapest Aus price.
          For sure having a gigabit cable connection would be better than wifi. My first unit (US one) would drop WiFi quite frequently, the only device in the house, so not my wifi as the issue. My current Aus unit is less prone to it, but it does happen when not in use.
          The NP is HDMI 1.4, so 4K at 30Hz max.
          Yes 5.1 audio, as above I playback DTS.
          Yes as above Kodi 15 can be installed, as can all add ons.
          I have had one since 15th Dec
          Only 8GB of storage.

          Right now, no I wouldn’t buy one again. I had a Roku3 and sent it back as I thought it was too limiting and poor at playing back local files. I would get the Nvidia Shield TV which should be released next week in the US. It has Gigabit cable, IR receiver, 16GB or 500GB option with slot for Micro SD card. Playback for H.265 See all the specs here - http://shield.nvidia.com/android-tv
          The only negatives I see with it are Androids current limitation of no native 24P playback, and it being untested for Kodi installation. It is an ARM chip, and people aren’t expecting too many issues with it working straight away, but you never know.
          I still use my super slow WD TV for watching all movies as with 24P palyback, it gives a better result.

        • @snuke:

          thanks for the info..
          was gonna get this but now not sure..

          being reading some reviews which gets about above average 3 out of 5 stars.

          http://www.cnet.com/au/products/google-nexus-player/

          Some negs for me
          -no gigabit ethernet built in, means more extra cost
          -small storage 8gb, not much games or apps can be installed

          -No optical out, I got old receiver that only takes optical out

          Does your receiver support hdmi or only optical?

          ===

          Does this playback h265? or kodi can play it?

          Can u install chrome web browser?

          Have you played any games on it, and how good is it?

        • @tyler.durden:

          My AVR has 6 HDMI inputs and 2 optical.

          No H.265 on the NP, not sure if that can be updated, it is Intel related. Nvidia will be the first Android TV to handle it.
          I haven't installed Chrome, I wouldn't use it. Others have though.
          No, I don't use it for Games, again the Nvidia will dominate NP for that, I use my PS4.

          Optical out will be a sticking point for you, less and less devices will have it, I suspect anything new that will handle H.265 will be HDMI only. Maybe a HTPC is going to be best for you. You can get adapters that are HDMI in and HDMI & Optical out. No idea if they are 4K complaint though.

    • I'm not sure why Nexus player is a good purchase consider any Android S802 based media player has more freedom and connectivity eg. Tronsmart/Minix NEO

      Above fully supports XBMC/Kodi. 5.1 audio, optical out, dual wifi bands, Bluetooth, supports air mouse

      Nexus player has no ethernet. Wifi only, and only runs Google verified apps on it I believe.

      • I've had an HDMI Android Stick in the past (it died on me and I didn't bother looking in to firmware reset). It played everything fine, but the interface just isn't designed for remote / keyboard / mouse.

        I quite like the barebones interface of Android TV and hope that Plex will update it's app for better direct play.

        • Ok I get it. Its the pure Android interface you are after I guess its worth it then.

      • What stopped me getting any of those Android boxes in the past is that can never do better than 720P for Netflix.

  • Thanks, managed to get one..

  • Also picked up two for stereo mode - had my eye on these for a while. Blue is a great colour too. Nice one!

  • +1

    UE booms are back in stock guys

  • +1

    Just picked up 2 from office works blue steel and black for $99.03 each

    • Did you just show them the eBay site? The Blue is out of stock on eBay atm.

    • Nice. That's lucky because their terms don't cover matching this

  • I showed the pink one then he pointed out where they were and I got them to the counter he didn't say anything

  • Did u mention the 15% off?

  • Yes that's how it came down to that price

    • Think its pretty much down to the store. They didn't let me do it at my local one :(

  • Someone mentioned the Logitech Bluetooth adapter that's pretty good if you got existing speakers already

  • Is it worth buying 2 to do stereo or just 1 is enoughenough guys?

    • +1

      Can't answer you, but probably one enough is enough ;)

    • One is fine, I'll be testing out stereo sound over the weekend.

    • I got two today and the double up stereo mode is awesome!

  • Thanks OP, bought a nexus player and picked up this arvo. Need to install XBMC now.

  • Bought a Nexus Player. They didn't have any in stock at my local stores, so I just paid for the $6.95 delivery. 15% off coupon still worked :)
    Should be delivered today.
