    Gerni and is great.
I bought 2 karcher, dad bought 1 and they all failed after a couple of years with not much use.
Bought a Gerni. I think the model up from this with a round patio cleaning head, and it's been fine for 3 years - and used a lot more, that patio head is great for cleaning the deck and concrete driveway, does the work quick.

I once watched a guy make flavoured snow using one of these. Pretty cool

    • i can see how that would work.

  • I bought this for $89 from Bunnings about 3 months back. Here's the link to the previous post:

Time to make a price protection claim

      • for 3 months?

    • Does it do a good Job??

  • +1

Is this powerful enough to wash a car?

    • +4

plenty powerful enough.and comes with the foam sprayer.

      • Have you used yours to wash a car PVA? I don't know whether the carwash liquid needs to be diluted in the bottle?

        • +2

I just bought one and washed my car. I didn't dilute it and was fine

        • The bottle probably only fits 300ml, don't dilute, they eater from the spray dilutes it.

      • +1

What do you need foam for?

        • +5

The process of 'foaming' is HIGHLY recommended in washing a car to minimise marring.*

A foam gun allows one to use a snow foam/car shampoo (a popular product in Australia is 'Concours Blizzard') which should always be applied to a car before proceeding with the hand-wash. You simply fill the foam tank to the required level using the recommended ratio (which will of course depend on the cleanliness of the car), ensure the car is healthily covered and leave to dwell for approximately five minutes (making sure to not let it dry), then rinse. The foam helps soften the dirt on the paint, enabling the pressure washer to remove more dirt than it otherwise would and assisting the subsequent hand-wash (as the dirt won't be as coagulated).

You could, technically, get away with simply foaming your car once every few weeks without more (resorting to hand-washing once a month or less), as the only thing you don't want to let sit on your car for the short to medium-term are acidic substances such as bird-crap (remove this as soon as possible; otherwise etching may occur, especially where the crap is exposed to the sun for some time) which a good snow foam and pressure wash should remove.

The OEM (i.e., Karcher and Gerni-branded) foam guns provide, however, a far poorer experience than the third-party offerings (but which are tailored to suit either Karcher and Gerni).

If you would like a demonstration, clarification or further information just check YT (I recommend the detailing videos posted by a used called 'Junkman'. While he isn't perfect, he is one of the best I have come across).

*(for some reason, 99.5% of people like to damage their property and thus don't do this).

        • +1

@Shiny Mew: I guess I should have clarified. I agree wholeheartedly with a pre-wash step. But as far as I'm aware, foaming doesn't add any additional benefits over spraying pre-mixed diluted shampoo (which isn't foamed). In fact, the opposite may be true.

I tried the foaming method back when I got my first Bosch high pressure hose and found it incredibly cumbersome. Didn't find it terribly effective either. Have since changed to using a hand pump and diluted shampoo as my pre-wash technique. I find it far more effective in removing surface dirt.

Final Inspection also posted something similar over on their blog if I recall correctly.

I heard Kim Kardashian uses one of these as a portable bidet

    • -1

She calls it a colonic irrigation.

  • Can it draw water or of a bucket or its limited to a tap?

    • +3

"Water restrictions? Not a problem. Your Gerni can connect to a bucket or a tank."

      I guess so then?

      • +2

Has anyone has experience using it with a bucket? How much less effective is it compared to a hose?

    • yes it can but you need to feed water into the pipe first otherwise it takes time to start up, and you should never run the pump dry..

  • +1

Picked oone up from capalaba. Was there at open and the was about 25 units there.

  • Thanks, got one

  • +1

Just grabbed from Albion QLD… They're right at the front door and was told they're going pretty quick. About 12 left at time of posting.

Was also told this is in response to something Masters is doing…

    • -1

So what's Masters doing? Might go there too lol

      • I couldn't see anything online so the checkout girl may have been making assumptions…. Or it's something that's not been advertised online

  • Thanks got one at Parafield. They had bout 12 or so left.

  • Plenty stock at Prospect Bunning > 30

  • About 15 in modbury sa .

  • I have a Scorpion 1.2kw…. its a bit lame. Would this be any better?

    • +2

I think Gerni are better than other brands - like I mentioned above, heaps better than the other Brand name Karcher.
Gerni is kinda The name brand - like people say Biro for a pen, a lot of people call all water blasters Gerni's.

  • +2

About 10+ inside the tool shop at Bunnings Greenacre.

    • Sold out at Greenacre, But nearly 30 in Bankstown store

  • I have one of these (next model up, same brand) but it doesn't work most of the time - the pressure is like a normal hose, then very, very occassionally, it suddenly starts working for a few seconds (enough to make the concrete cleaner) and then craps out again.

Could it be a bad hose or something? Or should I return it?

    • +2

return it, I have the model you have (I guess, it has wheels) I have had no problems after years of use.
Take it back for a repair/replacement.

  • +1

7 left at Compton Rd Bunnings in Brisbane Southside

  • +1

Picked one up at Bunnings Mt Gravatt - had about 12-15 units left.

  • +1

Just got one at Craigieburn but only 4 left now they are also right at the front once you walk in

  • Got one of these, does the job really well - it's my dads and he doesn't look after it and it hasn't had any issues.

An annoyance is probably the way the attachments attach to the unit when storing, that's about it.

  • +1

Is there any easy way to wall mount this for storage? Gerni website has discontinued wall mounts :(

All I can think of is something like this and place the Gerni handle over the hook:
    http://www.bunnings.com.au/qiq-fix-universal-tool-rack_p2610…

It would need to stick out between 150mm and 200mm minimum once it was on the wall….

    • The storage of pressure-washer power cables and hoses is a peculiar one. You'll note, as I did, that the marketing pictures for Gerni and Karcher washers, and the sample displays, either don't feature and hose at all or have them wound impossibly tightly and taped up. The fact is, sans the more expensive models with the built-in reels, I don't think Gerni or Karcher intended for the cables or hoses to be able to put neatly back (despite the ostensible cable and hoses mounting clips on the washers themselves)!

      • +2

You're absolutely correct - a very "convenient" omission from the manufacturers to avoid tackling the cable and hose storage problem… not enough however to stop a determined ozbargainer from finding their own solution :)

I took another trip back to the big green shed this afternoon to solve the problem (in as cheap a manner as possible) and after traipsing backwards and forwards between the Gerni display model down the front and the fixings/storage aisle up the back found the following wall fixings provide an almost "off the shelf" solution:

        http://www.bunnings.com.au/garage-hook-romak-dual-storage-62…

        http://www.bunnings.com.au/qiq-fix-2-piece-utility-hook-set_…

The Romak Dual Hook fits perfectly under the Gerni handle and a single utility hook mounted off to the side can deal with the coiled hose and power cable.

Leave the garden hose connection on the front of the Gerni when you want to store it (after disconnecting the hose), hang the unit with the logo facing the wall and the power gun hose pointing away from the wall (no need to disconnect every time)… coil the hose and cable over the side mounted utility hook.

This means minimum fuss by not having to unscrew the power gun hose every time and keeps the Gerni up off the ground and out the way (with all the accessories like the power gun/nozzles/bottle/etc attached to the unit as intended)

Just over $13 of hardware costs but well worth it for a nice convenient solution :)

        • +1

some pics of the setup? :-D

        • Yes, pics or it didn't happen haha

        • +5

          @diddy50:

          @bargainsville:

Did happen : went to Bunnings and bought it all

Didn't happen : mate has my Makita so couldn't attach to wall

Did happen: son held it against the wall so I could snap it :)

          http://tinypic.com/r/33kamww/8

Shows the hooks are all a good size and the big one for the Gerni is rated to 35Kg

        • +3

If I remember I'll post an installed pic next weekend once I get my drill back….

        • @singlefished:

          thanks

theres like 20 left at Prospect Bunnings on Churchill road for the SA people. right infront when you walk in

  • Thanks, my Karcher stopped working after occasional use after 3 years.

    • If you don't use it, you lose it.

  • Will this suffice for cleaning deco/coloured concrete before resealing?

    • If you want to strip it back you need acid wash it.

      • It depends on the condition of concrete. Some surfaces react well simply to high-pressure, 'hot' pressure-washers (my family uses a smelly diesel Karcher once a year for the purposes of cleaning the verandah concrete).
