Galaxy Gear Live Further Reduced at Officeworks - $166

70

This was being dropped out at $188 but appears to have been further reduced. It is no longer available on the Google store so Samsung may be dropping it. Be aware that if you choose " My store" with Officeworks, they are now tracking your through browser clearances and re-boots, including clearing with Bleachbit at both user and su level in linux, and regardless of which browser you choose..:-/ I only found out trying to get a "clean" address to post.

I doubt they are tracking me per se - though it may be that they are building a "run-and-hide" flag for the staff when Ozbargainers walk in - it's just all part of a piece where they can collect and note MAC numbers of wi-fi devices in their stores [ as do many other companies]. It has valid applications, such as noting when and where customers pause, where they speed up ect. This data will be incredibly useful when planning displays, seeing what alteration work. What I object to is the personalisation of this to MY home system. A record of what product where viewed from this I.P., how long they were viewed for, how often they were returned to is information that, IMNSHO , is no f&*^king business of the shop or company I walk into - and given that if I have left my phone wi-fi on and I have used that phone to browse at home, they now have the ability to track my movements in store as well.
Yesterday this would have been a dystopian view of a future. Today, I have just found that Officeworks are identifying either my sustem or my I.P everytime I visit them from my home computer! If it isn't specifically banned, it is allowed.

I do have and am using Ghostery and Disconnect in Chrome/Chromium, and Ghostery and NoScript in Firefox, and clear flash cookies, so it is not a mere cookie.

I was under the apparent delusion it wasn't allowed - either that, or Officeworks are under the delusion that it is…

I don't understand your position in all honesty: you seem extremely worried about being tracked as a customer which is fair enough.

However the problem is YOU are visiting THEM, how can you expect your publically broadcasting Wi-Fi, your IP address, what pages you view on the servers they own to be private … ? They aren't coming to you and violating these percieved rights you have.

  • Use a phone or tablet browser. They can't track them.

    • Yes they can. It's called the MAC address.

Ah, but if you use the quad core Android Pendopads that Target sell they can't track your MAC.
These tablets regularly reset their MAC to something new (haven't bothered working out what makes it happen)….I have had 3 and they all do it.
This is of particular concern if your network has MAC filtering, it means that you WiFi device that is free to connect won't be able to in the future - bummer.

That's one good solution - they don't expect us pendo buyers to go past the special bins anyway :-P

    • just one of their many models, new versions available.

No it's pathetic. The first gear didn't sell. This one doesn't sell. Think the next one will sell? Samsung just rip ideas from other competitors (not just apple either)

        • Ha, I take it you're an iSheep? Cool, still some around.

What a terrible thing for Samsung to do, I bet they even copied Apple with their iPhoney 6+ (or w/e its called) and their smartwatch? Next we'll hear that they paid off Nokia to not make an Apple product. Oh wait…

By all reports I've heard this is a pretty good Smartwatch, it runs on Wear OS and gets regular updates straight from Google. It isn't locked down to Samsung only either.

          @Where's_That_Cake:

Biggest company in the world, 40% market share in Aus. Still some around then.

        • @thorton82: Not referring to customer base as a whole. More so the guys n gals who chase around every article or post regarding anything Android related and BS'ing due to their insecurities. Personally I don't get it.

@Where's_That_Cake: yep I believe Apple have sold a couple of watches….

I'm tempted to try one out but I think I'll just go back to my Pebble as I prefer the battery life. Maybe I'll bite at sub $150.

    • I'm glad the Pebble is there - the vacillation has stopped me pulling the plug as OW and DS see-saw the prices down. It has only just been pulled from Playstore tho, so it may be a case of grab them before they are gone. At the risk of being forced to hand back my eneloops, I have to admit I don't need a watch…

      • Pebble may not be there for long, they are in financial trouble. The gold steel colour model looked good
