What on earth is Biltong?
Biltong is an air-dried meat delicacy similar to jerky but traditionally from South Africa, made right here in Australia using Aussie beef topside, marinated in our famous spice formula. Low in fat and high in protein, it's the perfect any-time snack.
The Traditional Sliced Biltong is more moist and less tough than jerky.
The Biltong Snapsticks are a bit more tough and similar to jerky

  • Did anybody else get the drywors? If so, what did you think of it?

Mine was pretty mushy & disgusting inside, barely dry at all…I've emailed them & waiting to hear back about the issue.

The stokkies on the other hand were pretty darn good…

    • Never tried drywors. The idea didn't really appeal to me - looked somewhat fatty. I'm not a fan of boerwors sausages either. I was thinking about giving it a go though, so your comments made me definitely decide against.

      • Normally drywors is delicious, Jim's Jerky actually does it really well. Coincidentally, the stuff from Jim's looks identical to the drywors pictured on the biltong.com.au website…unfortunately, the product I got from these guys bears little resemblance to it!

Surprisingly, and despite the appearance, drywors doesn't actually have a great deal of fat in it, IIRC it's like 10-15% max…I've never looked into it too far, but maybe it's the drying process that makes the marbling of that fat content just stand out more?

Still no response to my email to find out what went wrong with my batch either… :/

        • Hmm, so it normally is pretty nice. Hopefully they'll get back to you about it. I expect they have been pretty swamped by all the orders.

        • @Mobe1969: Yeah, I'm hoping it's just coz they're busy too, OP/rep seemed pretty switched on about customer service in earlier comments.

Update: Richard got back to me over the weekend, long story short, possible issue with my batch & they're happy to refund or replace at my discretion…I've chosen the latter as I'd like to be able to give their drywors a fair appraisal.

          Great customer service! :)

        • @StewBalls: Ah that's good news. I hope the new batch is better.

I should give the drywors a try, but am enjoying the other types (stokkies in particular) so much.

Dry biltong is damn hard to cut yourself I found this weekend… I can see why they sell cutters. I might just shave it along the length in future though rather than trying to cross cut it :)

        • @Mobe1969: Cheers, I'll report back on the new batch when it arrives! ;)

  • They definitely are overwhelmed, I made my order 2:40pm and it probably won't arrive until next week. Finally got a tracking number email though.

Received mine in Saturday delivery. Already a huge way through a bag of chilli stokkies! Really impressed!

  • Bugger, seems I waited too long. Forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere, if I buy the 1kg of traditional biltong can I split it up into 400g wet, 400g average dryness and 200g dry?

    • Just found the comment saying its possible, please disregard.

  • Anyone else still waiting? No tracking number yet from my order on the 26th.

    • I'm in the same situation - I also put my order through on the 26th at 2:30PM AEST and still haven't received tracking number yet..

      • I ordered on the 25th, followed up on the 30th and received my package yesterday… I'd say it's coming, they've just been ozbargained.

Their email reply after my followup said "I'm very sorry for the delay, we've had a very big response to our recent promotion, however we are slowly but surely getting through all the orders".

Just had mine delivered today, unusual taste which I wasn't quite sure of at first, but i'm finding quite addictive now. Thanks OP.

  • Not that impressed with the biltong. Tastes fatty and not much flavour to them unfortunately.

As I'd posted above biltong is more like the Italian air dried meats like coppa, prosciutto. It isn't like jerky. Stokkies on the other hand are.

Any chance of new code rep?

1kg disappeared in 2 days. Got some mates on to it now too.

We have 1 more coupon offer which ends at the end-of-day Monday 8th June:
      MAYHEM
      and gives 15% off.

      • Thanks mate, appreciated.

  • I ordered 1kg worth and ate it in 3 days. I need more, lots more. Any chance of another discount rep? :)

  • My order arrived.

Not a fan of the stokkies, I find them hard as hell and at the end there's always a chewy bit that remains, maybe that's what stokkies are.
