  • Is this Windows 8.1 with an legitament product key?

    • +3

Windows 8.1 with bing is free.

    • +1

As Gusper said, it comes with Windows 8.1 with Bing, which is a fully licensed and legit copy of Windows.

      • +1

        But is it activated?

        • Yes of course. Windows 8.1 with Bing is always activated.

  • +1

Says 10/100 Ethernet but I can't see the port anywhere.

    • This. I'm after one of these with gigabit

    • Doesn't have ethernet, but supports USB to ethernet adapter.

  • Odd question - what would u do with one of these?.

    • Connect it to the TV or even a monitor with keyboard and mouse and use it like a normal computer.

    • Small home theatre pc (for not too demanding media), alternative to laptop for people who have to work in various locations, cheap-and-easy way to create "simple terminals", etc.
I think think of many use cases, unfortunately none apply to me :(

  • It says 10 / 100M Ethernet in the description, but the port isn't visible in the photo.

Also, is it possible to upgrade the ROM / RAM easily?

    • Does not include ethernet, but will support an adapter.

Windows 10 preview can be installed on it, so the full release will be supported. The RAM unfortunately cannot be upgraded, but Geekbuying does have 4GB models.

      • "The RAM unfortunately cannot be upgraded, but Geekbuying does have 4GB models."

At $259.99 - More than double the price.

To get the free Windows with Bing license, devices are limited to 2Gb RAM and can't be upgradeable.

        • To get the free Windows with Bing license they need to have a screen that is 9 inches or less. Otherwise they can pay ~$25 to get the license from Microsoft.

The Intel chipset has several variants, some only support 1GB RAM, while others support 4GB.

  • Is this good for gaming ?

    I'm hooked on Solitaire…

    • +1

Sure can run solitaire with Max resolution

    • come on guys… negging jv for that comment isnt fair!!

  • Does this suffer from heating issues like PIPO X7S?

    • +1

Might be off-topic but I have a Pipo X7 and it doesn't have any overheating issues at all - it runs pretty cold.

      • likewise

    • Yes it does.. I use a USB fan blowing on mine. They screwed up the design and had the heat coming out of the bottom when heat is suppose to rise (duh..). It will get to 90c on full load if you dont do anything about it and will slow down to a crawl.

      • +1

Mmm…why not turn the PC upside down?

        • I have.. but the heatsinks on the device are almost non-existent. Only an Aluminum heat spreader - so the only thing you can really do is to have a fan blowing on it constantly or cut out the plastics and DIY heatsink on it.

  • Just wondering if any software can be installed on it? Any idea?

    • Yep, it's running the full version of Windows 8.1, and with Android 4.4 you can download almost any app!

  • Like the Ainol, this one has a built in battery too, which I think is awesome. I wonder how they compare?

    • The Battery is very small - only a few hundred mah. Enough to last a 30 minute electrical outage.

  • The description made me laugh.

"Full Pin for Choose, Create Different Fun"

"With the development of computer, from the big desktop to tablet PC, then into portable PC, that means the PCs are changing into mini and portable. Mini PC make it possible for each different platform, leading the new times for table PC."

    "Strong 4th Intel CPU"

    "bring with you safely date"

LOL, I am a Chinese, don't get me wrong. Also, in "Other Features" it listed this one comes with an "external 3G, USB 3G card". Another mistake.

  • anyone know how well this machine handle full hd / 1080p movies? will it lag?

    • depends on the encoding and where it is. On local disk with hardly much going, then it should do it. Over the network or something dodgy in the encoding will mean lags.

I am using the 64gb unit, installed win10 working well. nifty device, does not have ethernet can get usb/ether $5 easy.
Plex easy, Netflix win app store very good, hooked up to a 32in Sony and optical from TV to sound bar 2.1
Networked to a WD DUO 6gb NAS easy as no lag.

I've seen a few of these being posted here. Personally, I don't have any of these mini PCs, but I have a tablet with a similar processor. It's the Acer Switch 10. No-one has mentioned this yet, but I thought I'd just go ahead and say it. I use my tablet for Steam streaming and it works with no problems. Over wifi, there can be a little lag, but I can only suspect that with a cable connected, it would be better (minus the fact that my connection drops to less than 1 mbps now and again because I'm on the extreme end of my exchange).

  • Has anyone managed to use one with a 1080p 20mb/s , DTS-HD 6MB/S mkv?

interested to see if it struggles. While the WDTV LIVE handles it fine, the interface is horridly slow and the remote drives me nuts. Also prone to a memory leak under no common set of circumstances on the latest firmware. I need something zippier.
