  • looks awesome… to buy or not to buy…
Any advice from more knowledgeable people?

        That is a different product.

This is the correct review: http://www.cnet.com/au/products/navman-mivue-drive-lm/

For $139, I think it is a good price for someone who must have a combo of GPS navigation and dashcam. A bit of jack of all trade, and master of none, as its video is only 720p resolution.

    • interesting sort of thing

obviously the day of standalone GPS is kind of done for most people since we have phones and tablets but i'd rather use a good 1,080p cam and a decent tablet instead

bought this before… used it for few days. The OS is window CE and is really slow. Took it back for a refund.
I would not suggest to buy this.

    • No.You can try the navi app called "HERE" which is pretty decent.

I bought one of these for a holiday to NZ a few months ago because it had the NZ maps, monthly updates, and built-in dash cam for us to use in the hire car… it did the trick, but is slow to pick up signal, its slow to come up with a route (pretty much slow in general), and the dash cam at 720p is not very clear and hard to make out number plates, but I guess when it counts you will be close enough to the number plate.

The thing that bugs me is, obviously with the dash cam built in, you have to angle the device so the cam can see the road without blocking your view, and still be able to see the GPS. I like to keep my GPS to my right rather than the centre of the dash, which means the cam misses some of what happens to the left of the car.

Oh and the monthly updates was a nightmare to setup, I had to call support to get it up and running… but that is nothing new, I had the same issues with my old Navman years ago that was suppose to come with two years of free map updates, I didn't even get one update.

      • my old Navman years ago that was suppose to come with two years of free map updates, I didn't even get one update.

Oh, so it's not just me. I got infinitely more updates than you for mine - one!

  • Probably not going to recommemnd this. For the same amount of money go get yourself a full HD dashcam with an Ambarella chipset and IR cut filter.

If you must navigate, get a stand alone GPS or use your phone.

    • recommendations please …

The Master Ambarella A5S30 is a good one to start with.

Also check out https://dashcamtalk.com/ for heaps of comparisons and reviews.

Come to think of it we haven't had a decent deal on dashcams for awhile now…

  • Ditto cristtos, just need a nudge from those who know better …. Ease of maintaining a list of fav locations will be a + since the current gps I use isn't good at that.

  • JB had them for $119 few weeks before when they having GPS sales

    • +1

      I missed that…

    • +1

Are you sure that was the same one?

Jb Hifi list price is currently $249 and the GPS Sale discount was only 20% off

  • It seems to have a video-in as well, can it accommodate a reversing camera?

  • How did people get around before GPS navigation was available?

    • +2

We used these things called „Maps” and „compass” to figure out the DIRECTIONS
Real navigators used some tables, a chronometer and a thing call a „sextant” to figure out WHERE THEY ARE.
The chronometer had to be pretty precise and you had to wind it regularly.

There, now you know the secrets

Of course if a serious solar flare will lick the Earth in the future these ancient techniques will become current again.

    • Melway, Sydway or Brisway©

Thanks OP, bought one. Looks like normal price is around $200.

JB are doing these for $249 so $139.24 from DS is a good deal. That good, I have just bought 1 :)

  • Was going to buy, but read up on this model, alot of people are saying they are having problems with slow response time and freezing during navigation, so i think thats enough for me to say , no thank you.
Very good deal though, but i think you are getting such a great price , for an item that is not popular
