jv, it is aldi product. It is a normal cost that might be cheaper than the branded products with hit and miss quality

    • +1

Because it is from Aldi it normally is not even on sale. However for this week the normal cost is $26.99

      • +2

I suspect jv was stirring with his 2nd sentence …

His first sentence is perfectly valid though, if I find any results from previous deals I'll share them here, though you never know if the internals are the same as previous models :/

    • +5

At what point does jv get banned for obvious trolling?

      • +8

No, dont ban jv he's great for this site.

      • +1

At what point does jv get banned

It makes more sense to ban users who just post comments criticising other users rather than post comments about the deal being discussed…

      • I was going to say jv grows on you over time during your ozbargain experience … but you've been here since 2008 so I guess you are impervious to his charm

        • -1

          He does have his moments.

        • +2

          @PainToad: So does Ebola.
          Only jokin' jv!

      • +1

you crazy?… cant ban him/her… (someone once said his a she… hehe) only way i can get through my daily neg limit.. without JV it'd go to waste!

      Who 'reviews' a USB stick?
Who reads reviews of USB sticks?

Do you look for reviews of socks, potatoes and garbage bags as well?

      • +2

Socks, potatoes and garbage bags not so much but usb sticks vary so much in performance so of course I check reviews where possible.

To me it seems more odd someone wouldn't, certainly on OzBargain but maybe I'm the minority.

      • Who reads reviews of USB sticks?

        People who aren't suckers.

  • Might wait till someone can do a speed test on one.

    • +4
      • +1

        Not bad speeds!

    • +1

Buy, test, return within 60 days return policy if unsuitable. If you wait for reviews, rarely any stock left.

And just because there might be review for Aldi device with same Aldi trademark & description, the next one may not perform to same standard. Aldi or its suppliers often change manufacturers, seeking lowest price per feautures.

Medion is Aldi's European trademark for its computer equipment, and is usually seen as superior to its local trademarked offerings.

  • Backward compatible with USB 2.0?

    • +8

As far as I'm aware USB 3.0 is always backward compatible.

      • +5

Yeah.. seriously a noob question that was.

    • +11

I would if Australian internet wasn't so crap.

      • 192 hours/2MB+ (Voda prepaid 4G) isn't too bad, to Google storage.
        (*Flatrate)
/2 min to send a .flac CD up.

    • +7

Yet another lost soul sucked in by the tech media's rhetoric.
Even at 100Mbps (theoretic speed of connection, throughput can be far less) it'd take a long time to get 64GB down/up from any cloud…do the math
      64 x 1000 (GB to MB)= 64000 MB
      64000 x 8 (Bytes to bits)= 512,000 Mb
      512000/100Mbps = 5120 sec. to transfer
About 85 Mins….hmmm think I'll keep my USB keys a bit longer

    • yeah guys come on.. let's start installing our operating systems from cloud storage.

      Oh wait.

    • +1

Cloud storage isn't under your control and can be taken away from you at any time. The company can close, be hit with a virus, natural disaster or any other event.

I'm not saying that you can't lose data storing it yourself. But at least if you do, it's because you made a mistake not some random stranger.

      • I would suspect a reputable cloud storage provide has much greater anti-virus protection and backup retention strategy than the average home user ever will have.

        • I would suspect they can go out of business, be bought out, merge or a dozen other scenarios that leave you without your data.

  • +10

If this is a medion how much for the large?

  • If you don't need that much space the Toshiba 16gb USB3 drives are still around in Dick Smith for $10ea

  • Pass…I would not trust my data on that thing. Seriously just shell out a few extra dollars to get a good branded USB stick. OW has Sandisk USB 3.0 for $49 ;)

  • +1

I am a bit confused - it says USB 3.0 compatible, but is it actually USB 3.0??

    • my guess it is and just bad wording but yeh i get your point.

  • Suitable for Microsoft Windows 8.1, Windows 8 and Windows 7

    Awesome! Wouldn't get it otherwise

  • Is this one better than the 32gb from Australia post ?
I don't really care about the capacity , I am more after speed and quality (and price)

    • I am more after speed and quality

Then why would you even think about considering wondering if you should possibly buy the AusPost one?

I'd be surprised if the Aldi one isn't at last twice as fast and more reliable.

      • because I dont know either of these brands. So not sure which is more reliable than the other.

        • Did you read the comments for the AP one?
At least with Aldi you get 60 days money back.

  • Got 2 :D

Along with 2 32gb emtecs from oz post ><

  • Any one speed tested these yet?

I wouldn't assume the previous model would have the same speed.

  • I'm still on USB diet, haven't bought one for 8 years.. why we need USB? MircoSD understandable.

    • I was thinking the same, to use microsd card with small usb card reader.
but I wasn't sure how reliable is that! did you have any problem in any kind? love to know your experience.

      • Haven't had chance to use USB stick in ages. My laptop got a SD card reader. I got a SD card reader attached to my TV if required. If I want to transfer file from friend, use my phone with a micro USB cable. Or wireless.

In my mind USB drives are obsolete as CD ROM.

I got one of them attached to my key ring as fashionable item, http://www.verbatim.com.au/en_AU/products/usb-drives/micro-u… but never get to use it.

Good thing Aldi doesn't have an online store. I'd be making too many impulse buys with all of their specials.

  • Saw none at two stores near me, not even an empty space for them either.

    • +1

You usually have to ask the counter for these special buys as also mentioned below

  • +2

My initial rudimentary real world speed test results using Windows 7 copy metrics were:
    8GB file (3 different files)
    Write: 26MB/s
    Read: 27MB/s

    Crystal DiskMark results (MB/s):
    Seq Read: 28.09 Write: 21.34

Overall, a medium performer on write cycle, but a lesser performer on a read cycle.

Not disappointed. Casing appears rugged and slim, so will fit into those cramped USB sockets.

BTW, the USB memory sticks were with the cashier at my local Aldi. I had to ask for them as they were out of sight.

    • confirmed and faster than mine for writing

      Write: 19MB/s (3.3GB) + 16MB/s (2.81GB)
      Read: 27MB/s

      and a meaningless h2testw

Warning: Only 60344 of 60345 MByte tested.
      Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
      Writing speed: 22.9 MByte/s
      Reading speed: 25.8 MByte/s
      H2testw v1.4
