Xbox One: $6.65 Halo 3 ODST (Master Chief Collection) - Free if Played Prior to 19th December

231

Microsoft have finally released Halo ODST as a digital addon for the Xbox One Master Chief Collection.

If you're not familiar with it, it was a great standalone companion title for Halo 3 that was (in my opinion) very underrated at its time and quite differently paced than its other Halo brethren.

Anyone who has played Master Chief Collection whilst signed into Xbox Live prior to December 2014 should be getting a Xbox live message with a link to a free download of the game, which you must redeem before the end of June.

The rest of us won't be getting it for free, but for very reasonable price of $6.65. Hopefully it will inspire more Australians to jump back on the Multiplayer, which has been mostly a ghost town thanks to all the issues it had.

I think a brief correction is needed. I didn't play the multiplayer at all till now since I bought the game on release, and I have downloaded ODST for free. So, I think anyone who has played MCC single or multiplayer before December 19th will get ODST for free…

    • Cheers. Updated.

      I don't think anyone played MP before dec 19 >_< :P

But yeah I got my one also as I was unable to get a MP match :)

December 2015 or December 2014? Means I can install and play it now and get the content???

  • Not really a deal since that is the normal price. There's also been reports of download problems. It's stops at 99% and you have to redownload it.

    • I think $6.65 is a good price regardless, free is even better!

Well given its $4.95USD ($6.53AUD) its great to see that we are actually getting it for a fair price if you have to buy it.

I thought it was the Masterchef collection for a second there.

    • That's what I thought too. Bit confusing

    • Given how cooked the multiplayer was at launch it very well could have been called the Masterchef Collection.

  • Define reasonable.

I'm not impressed that it isn't free unconditionally. Given the multiplayer cockup MS needs to get on their hands and knees and beg.

  • I bought and played Master Chief Collection at launch and it's showing as $6.65 for me :-(

    • Same here, another cock up…not surprising. Ive been reading ODST is also broken so not even worth free.

    • Same for me. Annoying.

Not a bargain, it's just a release of DLC at its normal price.

    • You have to remember it's a console game, and so even DLC is a bargain for less than $10. Kind of like PC gaming ten years ago, before steam sales drove the prices of digital downloads down to sensible levels.

    • Isnt dlc usually like $10 plus? Ive never actually bought dlc !

    • Also helps to remember this is more than DLC, it's a full Halo single player campaign in its own right.

  • Any good deals for Master Chief Collection for those of us who haven't played it?

  • 343 have no idea what they're doing.

They put Halo 4 in the collection; the stapled on mutant of the franchise. Instead of Reach.

Then they're putting ODST, the deformed lap-dog of the franchise. Instead of Reach. They may as well call ODST, "Halo: Firefly".

Anyone who has high hopes for Halo 5 should abandon all expectations.

  • Hm, this is DLC content rather than standalone? Shame.
