Update FAQ:

Deal still available expiry extended till end of June or until people start having problems getting the discount

This is month to month "No Contract" for customers currently on $50 red sim only, postpaid, month to month, $50 red sim discounted to $35 for aslong as your on that plan

If you get told they cant do it ask to speak to the RED Team , retention team or hang up & try a different operator

Its possible to get it on a new account but no guarantee, I think they first put you on the $35 sim, then bump you up to the $50 sim & apply the discount, can try over the phone but in-store may be more cluey & can get it done, no guarantee but it should be done with the right staff member

If you work it out your better off buying a handset outright "at the right price" then signing up to a new contract

Call or go into store & ask for the 30% discount off your existing $50 red sim only plan, went into Vodafone store today the lady discounted my $50pm red sim plan to $35pm, told a friend who was on same plan he called Vodafone & they applied the same discount, offer ends June 2nd, note this is for existing accounts only, there is a way to get it if your a new customer but it's a bit complicated you need a staff member in store to do it.

Note: this isn't adding a existing plan to your account

  • God daamit, I'm on a $50 month to Month plan, it's tempting but I don't want to be locked down again. Anyone in the same boat?

    • you wont be locked down, this is month to month, free to leave when you want, no contract, & if you work it out at $35pm its probably worth buying a phone outright rather then signing up to a new contract

  • So if my partner is with Voda, am I able to get this deal? Or does she technically need to have both under her name?

  • +1

Just finished doing this, Make sure you get transferred to the retention team if they don't give you the discount for the life time that you are on the plan. Also just be a general (profanity) if they don't give it to you and threaten to leave.

    • didn't work for me. I threaten to leave but they couldn't match telechoice plan i was about to take on, so they didn't do anything. The guy was eager to get me off the chat room too :P

  • +2

Just upgraded to $35 24 month commitment

    Unlimited Calls
    Unlimited Texts
    400 Minutes International Calls
    4 GB of Data
First 3 months of unlimited Data
6 months Stan or Spotify for FREE

    WIN

don't think anyone operator can match this up

    • Did you call Voda and barter or?

      • +1

yes I called them up and told them that my friend's got this deal and the lady told me that I need to commit for 24 month and i told them to give me their offer and thats what they gave, you can ask them to give you the same stuff too, tell them your friend received it ;)

        • Are you on a consumer plan , just to confirm its not a Business/ABN plan. Did you speak to retention teams directly ? Dropped you a PM :)

        • @regenade: Yup I am on a consumer plan, I spoke to the customer service team who transferred me to the Loyalty team and then I negotiated my way up ;)

    • 400min of international calls? how?

were you an existing customer and just changed plans? if so which one were you on before?

      • Existing customer on $50 RED Plan

  • +1

Was on the $35 plan, the first person wasn't able to help me as they could only do the add a second deal for 30% discount. She very kindly put me straight to the retention team straight away, then they very easily just said I can have the $50 plan with the 30% discount for life on my next billing cycle. Only got the 3gb not 5gb, was told the extra 2gb is for new customers only. Thanks Roguewolf!

  • +1

Just called for 30% reduction on $50 Red Plan with Single Mobile on Single Account, said I was looking at Amaysim SIM only plans, No problems.

  • Just called up and since I am on a contact with phone which expires in 5 months, they advised I have to pay out $299 ($150 for the plan and $149 for the exit fee)

Any one had any luck getting around the exit fee?

  • +1

I spoke to them on the phone, I wasnt able to get 5GB data, as I was existing customer. Just got the 3 GB data only.

    • same here

  • do they lock u into a 24 month plan if you get the discount?
im month to month / out of contract on 50 red atm

  • Hey OP/anyone- any pointers for getting this for a new account? Should I go in store and see what they can scrounge up?

    • +1

It can be done, just need the right staff member that knows how, I think they first put you on a $35sim then bump you up to the $50 red sim & apply the discount, was told by staff member they can do it, cant guarantee but definitely worth a try

      • +1

Sweet, thanks for the quick response. I'll give it a shot at my local today and report back.

        • no probs, let us know how you go

        • @RogueWolf: Ah, no luck, store had no idea about even the basic 30% discount. Tried Dick Smith for good measure, they were even more confused.

          Oh well, worth a shot.

        • @9eyedfish: mmm no good, all comes down to the right staff member, try over the phone see if you have any luck

    • +1

You can do this but it will cost you an extra for the first month.

      1. Sign up for a month to month $20 data plan (2.5gb per month)
      2. Sign up for this discounted $50 red plan for $35 a month
      3. Cancel the data plan (#1) after 1 month.
      4. Retain the $35 red plan.

Apply for 1 and 2 instore at the same time, they should be able to do it.

  • +1

Rang up this morning, and got the discount applied. I have 2 accounts to my name, both on the $50 SIMO plan, only could apply it to one but I'm happy. Tried going for the additional data but operator won't budge.

  • +1

I am converting 3/4 of my numbers now online thru chatting to them. pretty easy. thanks OP. did not even have to lift the phone. LOL

  • +1

I had an existing $50 plan, got it down to $35 easily over the phone after speaking with the retention team, also added another number for the same $35/m, they also offered me an extra 1GB for life + 1GB for a couple of months (I think), however I opted for the shared data and calls option (and had to let the 2gb bonus go as it is a different plan), so now 6GB and 600 international minutes are shared across my two mobile numbers, which I think a pretty good deal.

  • They said either $35 or extra 2 gb :(

  • +1

Just called up and got this changed aswell. The original guy wouldn't do it, I had to get transferred to retentions where the lovely lady went through with it straight away. She said there's a 24-month soft-lock contract where we just need to stay on it for 3months and after that there's no early exit fees. This price stays on indefinitely too!! Thanks OP!

Edit: forgot to mention, they gave me unlimited data for the next two billing cycles + however long I have remaining for this current one (which is 15 days, so I get 2.5 billing cycles of unlimited data!).

Edit #2: Ummm, I just got a text from Vodafone for 6months free Spotify Premium OR 6months free Stan OR 6months free subscription to SMH newspaper, anyone else get that? Which one should I go for (not into the newspaper offer, so either Spotify or Stan)?

  • +1

was on 35 sim only, change to 50 one this morning and got 30% off easily.

However, asking for 5Gb was really tough.

I spoke to 4 different CS, 4 of them just refused me, the last lady do it for me after a 20 mins discussion and also gave me unlimited data for first 2 months.

The only thing she needs me to do is a promise, stay in Vodafone in future.

    :)

    • +2

"The only thing she needs me to do is a promise, stay in Vodafone in future"

I was told the same thing, I said 'what exactly does this mean'

She said 'it means you can remain on voda for 24 months and be free to move around any plans you want for new phones etc'

I said 'What is the cancellation fee if I move to another carrier?': It's the standard Months x $35 remaining on contract and is clear as day as you may want to move around in 12 months when other carriers may have better deals than Voda.

Don't commit to 24 months without thinking it through and asking the questions.

      • thanks for the reply.

That lady told me I can jump to other carriers freely as this is a soft promise in my case.

  • +1

    Thanks OP! Worked a treat.

To EVERYONE just ask for the Retention Team when you first call up.
My first ring I was with a person from India/Mumbia/Somewhere and they were nice but they don't have the power to do it. SomethingSomething about a second service.

There seems to be 2 options:
    1. Is 30% applied for life(?) of the plan, that's what the guy on the phone told me.
    2. 2 Year lock with 1GB extra data and 6 months Subscription to Stan or Something wasn't paying attention cause the 2 year lock deterred me.

  • +1

Tried 3-4 times with random guys i think in Mumbai offices, and they insisted it was an offer only to new customers, and they couldn't connect me to the red team…
Finally the 5th time, I got connected to the red team at once, where a lady applied the 30% discount but said there wasn't an option to her for the added Gbs, she transferred me ton another guy, and he also said it was only to new customers.
When I said about a couple of my friends as existing customers, already got the offer with the Gbs, he asked for the numbers to verify that…
I said I didn't have them available at the moment, and that was it. I couldn't manage to get the added Gbs.

    • +2

they're probably getting hounded with the 'friend route'
If you're out of plan, avoid this and tell them you're leaving - worked for me

      • +1

        I did one last try.
I asked to be connected to the retention department, I used the Optus offer…
        http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobilephones/SimBYO?SID=con:hme…
for the $50 plan, and I said I am eligible for a further $10 discount as I am an Optus broadband customer (https://offer.optus.com.au/offlineform/?handset=BYO-NoSIM&pl…)
so that would bring it to $40 with 8Gbs…

and as I already had the 30% discount, I emphasized on the added Gbs offer…
and finally I got something good.
not only 2Gbs, but 3Gbs added.

I got this pack supposedly for $20, alongside with $20 credit = free, for up to 24 months.

So, total, #50 red sim only plan, down to $35 and 6Gb Data :)

        • +1

Nice one Electro, got a friend to try this & they bumped him up to 6gb for $35, think Vodafone is going into meltdown today lol

  • +1

Called, went to Indian call centre, then outlined the deal that friends had, dude said 'no that is for existing only'.
I said I have friends on it, without existing and I am looking at amaysim and others. He picked that part up and transferred me.

I was then transferred to an AU call centre, told them the same story. This time with the emphasis on the 'I have seen other better offers with carriers not name vodafone'.

Then was offered 24 month contract, extra gig (4 in total), 2 months unlim data all I can use. Declined and took existing plan 3 gig for $35 a month without contract and moved on.

    Took 15mins in total duration.

  • +1

What number did you guys call?

Edit: Called one of the numbers asked for red team done instantly!

    Thanks op!

  • +1

Can confirm simply asking for the Red team will get it done instantly.

In the end got both accounts $35 with 6gb data each.

  • +1

Thanks heaps OP, I just rang up and got my wife's $35 SIM only plan upgraded to the $50 plan then had the 30% discount applied, no questions asked. The first lady I spoke to put me on hold for a solid 10 minutes to try and find out if the deal even existed, when she took me back off hold she still thought I wanted to add a 2nd service to my plan…

Anyway she put me through to the upgrades team and when I mentioned what it was I was after they knew immediately and it only took 2-3 minutes to have everything switched over and the discount applied.

I only got offered 3GB but that's heaps anyway, she only uses 1-1.5GB per month max, so I didn't bother to haggle for any more.

  • I rang this morning to get 30% applied on my account.

Just log on to My Vodafone and noticed the following:

    Vodafone Red $50 SIMO
    8.5GB Data
    $701 Value

    26 days left Inclusions refresh

Can someone please advise how do I know if the 30% has been applied successfully? I have a feeling that I may have to contact Vodafone team again.

    Thanks.

    • I have that on my account too, it only says you are on the Red $50 sim only plan, the value you have now is your old plan in addition to your new plan. The sms they sent me for the changed of plan confirmed the 30% off, did you get something like that too?

    • Mine says something weird too, it shows the $50 plan but 4.5GB data, $500.01 in calls and 300 international minutes.
I suspect it will sort itself out after a full billing cycle. If you do call and query, please post back what they told you :)

    • Mine shows 15 GB of Data :S

  • Hey guys, just after some advice…

I'm currently not with Vodafone… if I buy the RED 50 sim online today, then wait a few days for it to arrive… will the 30% off deal still be open? Looking at like 5th June, I guess.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    • +1

I think your best bet is to call up and talk to the 'red team'

  • Can the 30% be applied to $60 SIMO plan as well or is it for $50 plan only?

    • Think it's only for the $50 sim, but call the red loyalty team & ask, mention your looking at moving to Optus for 8gb for $50 & you get it for $40 because you bundle it with home account, read posts above

  • I just called them and they gave me the additional 2 gb to make it 5 gb when I added another number on to my current Vodafone account without much hassle. I did ask for the red team to start with and call the sales number.

  • +1

I feel oblidged to share my exp. here.

Rang 1555 yesterday and asked about the 30% off red 50 plan (did not specify month-2-month), got transferred to Hobart team and guy suggested 24 m contract with: unlimimited local call/text, 300 mins international calls, 4gb data, 2 months of 'data workout'. I checked later that this way I am in fact on a red 45 24m plan, only paying 35$ for 2 years. Once the period ends, will need to pay 45$ - but surely by then better plan will be out so no worries…

Read the post last night and realised I may have made a mistake by locking myself in. No biggie as I have been with them for >6 years but just feel a bit stupid.

Rang 1555 just now and asked (for my gf) the same deal, again was transferred to an AU lady who recommended the 24m plan; I said 4 gb is bit too much, and happy to just go for M-M with 3bg. She can also ask to 'upgrade' to my plan anytime.

In both cases it was really hassle free to transfer.

Only thing is to ask to speak to the red team and specify no contract.

BTW Both are orginally on the 35$ month-to-month.

Over and out. Good luck guys.

    • I was under same condition as you are initially.

When I realised I was locked in this morning, I made a phone call, and express my anger.

Finally, they cancelled the contract and gave me $35 for 5Gb in first 6 months (actually 45 plan with $10 add-on but get $20 credit back) and &35 for 4Gb in after but without any contract.

I don't really think it is a win as I've paid to much energy deal with them. :(

      • Thx I may try to ring them again tmr to see if I can walk away from the contract.

  • @roguewolf appears all the info needed is here http://community.vodafone.com.au/t5/Contract/50-SIM-Only-fro…

    • "Get this offer when you take up another service with us." think thats the additional sercice one, anyway nobody has had a issue getting the discount rate..

  • +1

Just changed another number to this plan even after the 'expiry' date. Just tell them you'll leave vodafone if you don't get this deal and they'll happily oblige!

  • Saw this deal was expired, any way called vodafone on 1300 650 410 to see if it is still available.

I asked the vodafone person if there is a $50 red sim plan for $35 p/m available. Told them i saw it in the city store when i walked past. He said yes there is an offer, no contract. He was able to upgrade me to this plan even though i was not on a $50 red sim to begin with. I got the txt that i am on the $50 red sim plan, next test for vodafone is what they will charge me!

  • I just called their sales team then and got flat out refused, told the best deal I could get from them was 5gb per month + unlimited calls and texts for $45 per month for 6 months only! what a load of rubbish.

really disappointed as I would have loved to jump on board from SpinTel at $35 per month (with 4gb would have been nice :) )

    • Try again and hopefully get a different operator

    • Also I went through their accounts team not their sales team to get the deal. Try the accounts option when u call back

      • Just tried a different guy and got told the same line, best they could do was $45 for 6 months with 2gb bonus data. screw that.

I said that wasn't too competitive given Optus' deal is for 8gb. He agreed but said there was nothing else he could offer.

        a real bummer!

        • Try again! One of them will budge eventually!

        • @rakkihizoku: I feel like they must be going to the same supervisor because the deal is exactly the same (and despite my pushing, no better).

They don't seem to be too keen to sign anyone else new up unfortunately.

I shouldn't have to fight this hard to get a (reasonable but not amazing) deal from Vodafone! 5 years ago they would have been begging for my business!

        • @xyron: Did you try threatening to leave? That seemed to work for alot of people. Be more upfront, aggressive what have you.

Vodafone 5 years ago probably didn't have the business of what it has today as to why there is a lack of begging

        • @rakkihizoku: I'm not currently a customer. That might be the problem. Not sure I want to play account roulette by signing up at full price then trying to get the discount…

  • I got a call today from Vodafone and while I thought I already had the deal, it turned out that the previous operator did not apply it into the system, don't know WTF is going on but she was trying to offer me a deal as well so I got the $50 plan for $35 and then an additional $5 off my 2nd $50 line for 12 months.

  • I've got call from Voda today for upgrading my contract so mention the $35 deal. Have 2 $50 Red Simo month to month on 1 existing account. This is what I've got in end.
1 phone service $35 month to month. Usual $50 Red deal.
    Unlimited call. 3GB. etc.
1 phone service $50 24month. Usual $50 Red deal. but 8GB data. Data workout for 2 month. Spotify for 6month. Really needed more data since I work away from home a lot.
I already have spotify so that will save me around $70 for 6month.
Very happy with what I've got.

  • +1

Deal should be unexpired, it is still available.

Thankyou OP for posting this, I was on the $35 sim only plan and was seriously considering switching to Boost for $40/mo, but decided to stay with VF because of this deal.

    • No probs, yeah still seems available, have removed expiry until people have issues getting this deal

  • Did anyone get more than 3 GBs? Billing cycle for me reseted. Im only getting 3Gbs :(
