  • These are really good knives.

      Hello JV. Website only went live 2 days ago so it is indeed the normal 2 day old price.

        • +4

          Not really. People know us for watches & jewellery (Star Jewels). This is our new website so offering the lowest possible price to our old and hopefully some new clients.

        • -8

          @Star Jewels: '

          Not really.

          Yes really. You are just advertising your normal price as you stated above…

        • +2

          @jv: Thanks JV.

        • +2

          @jv:

          Still $20 cheaper than Victoria's basement.
          I just bought a set, as I was looking last weekend for them
          $190 in Peters of Kensington.

          Good value.

          @Star Jewels:

          Didn't you read the forum rules? One of them is to ignore JV

        • +10

          @dosada:

          the first rule of ozbargain ;)

        • @SBOB: Thou shalt not listen to jv

        • @jv:

          Just because someone advertises their normal price, doesn't mean it's not a bargain.

          If you compare it to the current market, like others have, then you will see that it's cheaper than other places.

    • +2

      Give it a rest JV, it's getting old. This is the best price from anywhere in Australia at the moment. To me that's a bargain

    • +3

      seriously?…. as a male id not want that thing anywhere on me .. def not in my pocket…

    • +4

      This item isn't being advertised as a weapon. I think its fine, just a little bit of common sense will do the trick.

    • +5

      …are you going to tell us that all the other electronics on ozbargain look like they can be modified into high-powered pocketable death-rays too?

      • +1

        Link?….. :P

    • I believe that concealed weapons such as knives means things like blades inside a walking stick.

  • +1

    Booyah, always wanted some Global knives. Good deal.

  • +1

    Looking forward to some good watch deals

    • +1

      Thanks. Citizen, Seiko, G-Shocks and hopefully some TW Steel soon. Working on trying to get some Astrons as well. Any other suggestions, please let us know. Watches or any other categories.

          Swiss watches are notoriously hard to get a hold of. As we only buy official & authorised stock, we are limited with the available brands. We may have a surprise inclusion towards the middle of July…..fingers crossed. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • +2

    I have bought the two bigger knives separately for $114 (although my chef knife is not fluted; it's the straight edge western chef that comes in a wooden gift box). I'd willingly pay about $35 for a paring knife, shipped. All up, it would have cost me about the same as this deal, without the hassle of waiting for coupons. Plus from me.

    That said, for my $35 I think I could get a forged paring knife (from GSF series) which seems to be a step up from the GS series knives that come in this set.

    Good value for those who want all three knives in the set, though. The lowest I've seen it was about $145 with coupons.

  • Any chance of the Global G-2 being on special?

    • Hello. Not as yet but we will look into it. We have a category buyer joining us soon. She is the expert and will no doubt get the best sellers sorted out for us. Please watch out for more specials. Thanks

  • Says its sold out now…

    Anymore of the 3 piece knife set coming online?

    • We had only received 60 sets. Please give me some time to check with the warehouse and get back to you.Thanks

      • I'd be interested as well if you can let me know.

        • +3

          @nedski @Relapse , Completely sold out! The warehouse will need till tomorrow to check availability and pricing. Please give me till then to get back to you on here. We will do our best to get some more stock in. Thanks

        • @Star Jewels: I'd definitely take a set too if you could get them.

        • +1

          @johnmclane: Thanks. The warehouse will let us know by 11am tomorrow. We have requested an additional 50 sets.

        • Yep I also want a set!

    Good price. Always used German knives in the past until recently I bought a set of Globals - different feel to them, light but well balanced and definitely sharp. At this price very tempted to pickup a few more….. ;-)

    FYI I do find they lose their edge quicker than German blades, so I'd recommend getting a Japanese two ceramic wheel hand held water sharpener like a MinoSharp. Easy to use (fill with water and gently drag the knife over the coarse wheel 8 times or so - less if it's just a top up - then repeat with the medium wheel). You can get a three wheel job with a fine setting, but frankly the two wheel results in an edge that is more than sharp enough. Oh, also it's best to hand wash and dry after use - leaving them wet can result in stains.

    • +1

      It is the conundrum of blades, if a knife is easy to sharpen then it tends to lose the edge a bit quicker.
      Conversely, a blade that holds its edge longer can be a real pain to sharpen again.

      Also, if you're going to use a wheel (or any sharpener in fact), always wipe the blade after sharpening, as it removes any filings still on the blade. Not the sort of thing you want in your food.

  • ozbargained

  • Big time!!

    • Second to None opportunity to buy the knife that you don't have to cut on your own, it will do its job by its own

    • How do these knives compare to the knives in the 5 piece block set you have advertised?

      • +2

        I'll have to be very honest here and say that my cooking and hence cutting skills are to be laughed at! Beyond useless. Other than the reviews saying that the Global knives need sharpening, I for one have not read a bad review on any of the Global knives. Truly hoping a gourmet cook will come on and give you a better feedback. Sorry I can't be of any real use here.

        • +1

          Any good knife needs sharpening. Bad knifes can't be sharpen :(

          The better the knife the easier it can be sharpen to a very sharp stage and the longer it will hold it. I use different Victorinox knifes, they're quite good.

        • +1

          @srr:

          The better the knife the easier it can be sharpen to a very sharp stage and the longer it will hold it.

          There's no such magical knife. Softer steel will be easier to sharpen but won't hold the edge for long.

          The better knife is the one that will suit your needs.

        • -1

          @Roscoe99:

          I'm telling from my experience, I consider a knife sharp if it can shave my hand. It's harder to sharpen a good but soft steel knife, it's almost impossible to sharpen a cheap knife. I've got 4 Victorinox knifes:
          3 forged - 7.7403.20 is the best, then 7.7113.15 is a bit worse, 7.7113.10 I like the least
          1 soft steel plastic microban 10 cm is a nice knife, but requires a bit more effort when sharpening. I like it because it's flexible.

          Also, a good knife often requires just honing, not sharpening.

        • +1

          @srr:

          That's nice but there's still no knife that is easy to sharpen and hold a good edge.

          Easy to sharpen = softer steel = dulls quicker
          Holds a good edge = harder steel = takes longer to sharpen

          Regular honing and occasional sharpening is required for all knives regardless.

  • +1

    With that price i won't think many people will give it a go on this website, $13.9 is a reasonable price for 3 piece of knives for TrueBargainers.

    • +6

      Not really, OzB are frugal, not cheapskates..
      Ever since using a Victorinox and a small global knife, and going back to dull knives, you really do appreciate you need to only draw the knife once along your meat/vege once with a sharp knife, rather than saw away at it with a cheap dull knife. Also, dull edges slip, meaning when you're trying to cut something, it can slip off the surface of whatever you want to cut, and go onto your fingers which are holding down the piece of meat/vegetable.
      Cheap knife = dangerous
      Slightly more expensive knife = good.

    • Seriously? Considering that it sold out quite quickly, im thinking your "prediction" seems a little flawed.

      Im pissed I missed out on this as $139 for some global knives is quite reasonable but im sure if I looked in your kitchen drawer, I would find some plastic handled Wiltshires…

    • +2

      sharp knives are safer than blunt knives and I haven't seen any band-aid bargains on here lately ;)

      I grabbed this deal as its essentially buying 2 knives and getting one free based on their separate pricing (and will go with the couple of Global knives I already have)

    • Just because were ozbargainers doesnt mean some of us dont take our cooking seriously. A good quality knife that holds its edge, and lasts a long time saves the cook time. Rubbish knives are just dangerous.
      Theres a good reason why chefs who take their cooking seriously even have their own set of knives that cost over $200 each.

      • Agree, I was just kidding, my bad,.

  • +2

    Have been hanging out for a Global deal that doesn't have a couple of knives and a block I'll never use. This hit the spot. Thanks rep. $9 express vs $8.50 standard shipping too.

  • I don't know about this brand, they do look fancy but I have bought Kiwi brand knives and they are really good at a fraction of the cost.

  • Bought a set of these several years ago when Victorian Justice Department was selling items from the proceeds of crime. Still going strong with an occasional sharpen with a knife steel. Occasionally wonder about their history.

  • There is always these? A decent alternative….
    http://www.victoriasbasement.com.au/Product/Details/70091

  • Will you be doing any specials on any of the other Global sets? Specifically the Ikasu

    • We definitely will. What would be the ideal price you would like to see the set at?

      • This is ozbargain, so the ideal price is 0 :p

        But really, as low as possible!

        • +1

          Cost + Love. Thanks. Leave this with us.

      • The best deal regarding Ikasu imo so far has been the Ikasu + Sharpener delivered for $299. That one sold pretty well. If you can beat that I'm sure most of us will jump on it. Hope that helps :)

        • Thanks. Thats great. Gives us something to work towards.

  • damn it i would have bought one of these…all id ever need

    • Thanks. We will post back here later today if we are able to get a hold of any more stock.

          @Star Jewels:

          Woooo! Just placed an order. I am at work where we have to use IE10 and the Add to Cart button wouldn't work. So I had to tap an order out on my phone post haste!

        • @nedski: Thank you for your order and patience. IE has been browser tested but we seem to be having issues with it.

        • @Star Jewels:
          Can't put an order through guys. Says sold out again

        • @nairdajun: Hi. The 48 new sets were sold out on the same day. Absolutely no more stock is available in this set now. Thanks

        • @Star Jewels:
          Any chance you will be able to get them in the future? I'd be willing to put an advance order through

        • @nairdajun: Thanks. We are trying to get some more stock for another promotion. Global knives are surprisingly hard to get a hold of (at the correct price). We will do our level best so please keep an eye out. Cheers

  • +1

    Thanks starbuy

    Also your mobile site isn't too painful and easily ordered via iphone.

    • Thanks for that. I have concentrated on the desktop experience so thats great to hear. The developers will be pleased.

    Hey rep. Was just wondering what the warranty is for these knives if any. Never owned Global before but excited to own some after I took too long to decide yesterday.

  • +1

    Thanks OP. Ordered one! Agree with above comments. Website on mobile works well.

    • Thanks.

  • Hi guys. We are completely stuck (all non techs) with thermal printing of posting pdf labels. Anyone who can help us with this can pick up a Citizen Bm8475-34E. Our previous customers from Star Jewels will know the model well but here is a reminder anyway. http://www.starjewels.com.au/citizen-eco-drive-mens-watch-bm… HELP!!

    • ahh thermal label/receipt printers… They always work so reliably /sarcasm :)

      The one I have always seen are:
      - paper fed in upside down as generally its only one side of the paper that works/is valid, but if they are labels I would assume one side is sticky so that wont be it
      - stupid feeder errors due to the tinniest piece of dust somewhere in the vicinity of the printer, in which case a hammer is usually the answer :)

      • +1

        I had young Ash in. He sat down, looked at the printer, smiled. looked at me. 2 clicks later and he just walked out with the new watch. I'm getting old and totally ineffective. Best part was that that was a watch he wanted but being a uni student could not afford so no better recipient.

        • So what you're saying is you didn't try my hammer suggestion ;)

        • @SBOB: Another 15mins and it may well have been the Global knife…the big one on the printer ;)

  • Great knives rep, just bought myself a set.

    Are chance Wusthof may feature soon?

    • Thanks for your order. Looking for new brands all the time so all the suggestions are great. We will definitely look into this.

  • Managed to grab a set. Thanks for ordering more in it's really appreciated.

    • Thats our pleasure and thank you for your order. Really appreciate your support.

  • OP
    When do you think these will ship?

    • Hello. Literally anytime. We have everything ready to ship. The stock was to come in yesterday but we are really hoping it is today. Thanks

      • Ok. Cool :)
