Is there any real reason to save $40 over the Mi4? This seems to be lighter/thinner with a bit better battery life but slower hardware/less RAM. The whole point at release was that this had a retail price about 30-40% less, but reality is much different.

  • this is arguably better…newer chipset but less ram…although the price here is avg

  • I just bought one from India. I paid INR 12999/- comes to AU$ 270/-

    • any good package forwarder from india to aus??

    • One of my relatives did too.. Its such a steep price difference for a grey import , considering the original retail price being so low and affordable overseas …makes me wonder Why is there a markup of about $80

Try Aliexpress (buy from seller with 200+ positive feedback). I purchased Xiaomi Redmi Note few months ago for AU$200. It was free postage but I did DHL for $30 and got the phone in 6 days. Excellent phone, can't see how Samsung charges $800 for similar phone. If you want sharp screen, great camera & fast phone at right price then Xiaomi brand is perfect.

I really want Xiaomi but there is no local warranty support…..will have to settle for my current Moto G 2nd gen and hope they release a 3rd gen with same specs as this…….

Most the major Chinese Online retailers offer solid warranty /return options.

        • Do you take such a risk-averse approach to everything in life?

I have bought probably 100 smartphones since 2009 (both new and second-hand) and I have never received a single faulty one…

        • @xyron:

yeah most things….i usually have a 'few layers of security' in case things go wrong, a few backup plans.

100 phones what??????? do you re sell them?

        • @nathan-drake: mostly dev work on ROMs, not much money in buying and selling them.

I think the Elephone P3000s (3GB version) is a better buy for ~US$190/AUD$250

Mediatek CPUs have improved alot, and now with 4G/Lte support are a viable alternative to SD's.
According to this comparison ( http://www.gizchina.com/2015/02/09/mediatek-mt6752-vs-snapdr… ), the MT6752 in the Elephone outperforms the 615 in the Xiaomi.

  • Mi4 has a Stainless Steel edge around it which means stronger build than an Mi4i and prettier.

They just dropped the price on the 1+.
    LG G3 for ~$400 for a 5.5" fairly premium.

    • A$329 now. must have increased just recently. Is this phone any good?

      • Dunno - just mentioned the price is cheaper elsewhere

  • Have read about issues with heating (which apparently has been fixed by updating the phone) and there are also a lot of comments about lagging issues with the phone? Anyone can comment? How is the camera?
I have a NOTE 3 and absolutely hate the annoying camera sound that can't be turn off and it takes ages to focus before I can take a photo! Is the mi4i camera comparable to iphone camera?
