mmmmmmmm. New Shanghai dumpling house in Emporium is celebrating their first year of opening. Not sure about the quality (should be fine), but hey, free buns.

Not sure about the quality (should be fine)
can any body recommend.
Not a bad place for dumplings.
It's a bit more comfortable and cleaner place than likes of Shanghai Street etc.

New Shanghai is pretty good here in Sydney. I prefer over say Din Tai Fung
The New Shanghai in Emporium is probably one of the best dumpling places in Melbourne. I've been to Din Tai Fung in Sydney and KL and both were horrible compared to the Din Tai Fung in Taiwan.
i think DTF is over rated!
DTF Sydney was best when I first tried couple of years back
I went back to Sydney last year & DTF wasn't good anymore……hopefully the new DTF in Melbourne going to be good!

the restaurant has been open for almost a year now …the promo is to mark their first year anniversary since they first opened @ emporium.
I'm a fan of their fried buns but I swear they're smaller compared to the ones I bought at their Sydney stores. Considering the location and the length of time they usually take to prepare these when I go there (approx.15-20 mins), I would think that you'd either have to wait for a long time for 1 piece of bun or miss out completely

and ofcourse, you gotta order some other stuff to be qualified for the free bun!
For non-melbourne ozbargainers - Dumplings are a way of life here, and every place you go to has to have the name Shanghai in it so everyone is confused.
