You will need to collect a redemption code via the Apple Store app - here is how to do it:

In the 'Apple Store' App (not App Store where it is full price).
On the 'featured' page, scroll down.
Just above the bottom image you will see 'Download Sky Guide free' , tap the link.
This will take you to another screen; at the bottom tap the green bar 'Download now for free'.
That will swap you to the App Store now and yet another screen where you need to redeem the coupon by taping the 'Redeem' in the upper right corner.
Only then will it allow you to download it for free.

    The instructions are a little confusing.

    The 'featured' page isnt named as such. It is the default page, if you click on the mac, iphone. ipad tabs at the top you will not find the link towards the bottom. This might already been done if you had opened the app before.

    Make sure you tap on the apple icon. This gves you the aformentioned 'featured' page. Then scroll down as the OP says.

    Took me sometime to download.
    Before you can download this app 1. download itunes u.
    2.download Apple Store app.
    3. then follow instructions per OP post.

      No, it hasn't. You need to go in through the Apple Store app, not the App Store.

    Steps as follows

    on iphone or ipad download in the 'app store' the 'apple store' app, its free
    open apple store app, on the home page, scroll down and as they say you will see the app for free offer
    click it and it opens in app store and its now free, no charge when you hit REDEEM/DONE (it will now download and install)
    install

    done. it will now DL and install at no charge! I first tried to do this on the apple's website but no luck, then i saw they had an store app and figured it must be where the link hid and i was right.

    Had me baffled for a bit, thats for sure!
