[iOS] Microsoft 365 Family Subscription & 6TB Storage: 1 Month Free Trial Then ₺23,99/Month (A$0.97) @ OneDrive & Apple Türkiye

1221

Deal is available if you have a Turkish apple account and no current Microsoft 365 or OneDrive subscription. I use my Turkish account as my store account and my main iCloud account is Aussie. Use Turgame cards to top up your Turkish apple account as usual.

To see the deal, click on the gem in the top right corner of the screen of the app while signed in, then scroll to the right most deal (at least this is how it appears on my device). No VPN is necessary for sign up.

Leave comments to guide others if necessary. Happy hunting!

    Damn thats cheap

    • +5

They’ve had deals like this in the past, but Microsoft put the price up on iOS and I’m guessing lots of people unsubbed. So it’s back again :)

      • Any idea what the price went up to?

    • Nearly as tasty as this deal ;)

    • Good deals get gobbled up quickly.

    • +2

@jv can you share your login to thedutchoven.com.au?

  • +1

Assume it's going to get an increase when ms notices… The other tiers are more expensive after they got price rises

Wouldn't count on this long term

    • Use it till it’s gone!

  • -1

Is there a way of making one?

    • -3

      From scratch?

    • There have been deals like this in the past, a quick search for Turkish apple account and I’m sure you’ll find it.

    • +7

To make your own OneDrive you'll need to build a data centre and that's expensive.

It would be cheaper to subscribe to Microsoft's.

    • Simply make a new iOS account and set your country to Turkey, then use iTunes giftcars from Turgame.

You may encounter an issue where it won't let you purchase at first (gives a generic error), you simply contact Apple and explain the issue, they remove the restriction on your account and it works 24 hours later. It's apparently a safety measure to stop people using fake/alternative accounts to redeem stolen / illegally obtained gift cards. Make sure you use your real name for billing and account details.

  • I'm assuming you need an iphone?

    • You would need access to the OneDrive apple app. Might work on an iPad or Mac, not sure as I own neither.

      • Yeah thought so. Thanks anyways

        • If you’re on android, check on the app and let me know if you see anything like this? Though I’m not sure how a Turkish play store account works with this deal

          • +2

@PasqualeOz: Just checked my Turkish google account price for 6tb is 409 tr / month which converts to roughly the australian price so definitely patched on android.

            • @Ghadi: Ok so it’s definitely an iOS deal, thanks for checking

    • And a fairly recent one. The iPhone 6a I got to get cheap youtube is too old to run the onedrive app.

      • -1

I tried on iPhone 13 and it still wouldn't let me install OneDrive! Keep telling me my iOS is too old

        • +1

          Update your IOS…

        • -1

          then update your iOS.

I have onedrive working on an XS max fine (basically an iphone 10)

          • @jv:

I have one drive working on an XS max fine

Does the other drive work on it too? Or just the one?

          • @jv: The iPhone XS max is now iPhone tenesmus , squeezing out every bit

        • Same, there is a work around that you can log in to a new device download it and then it should work for your older device. Again requires a newer device though!

    • I know MacOS can run iOS apps. I wonder if you can do it in a VM?

      • I know MacOS can run iOS apps.

        Depends on the Mac….

        • -1

Actually it depends on whether the developer allowed said iOS app to run on macOS.

  • +1

I wonder what happens to the data once they crack the workaround.

    • +6

Exactly. With Netflix, once they realised I didn't live in Turkey, they instantly cancelled the account. Because they classified it as "unusual activity", meaning fraud or compromised account, they were not required/allowed to give explanation. I had to do a credit card chargeback for the money already paid for that month.

If Microsoft treats this like fraud, they have zero obligation to respect access to your data. It's not worth the risk.

      • +4

Netflix still works, just top up with gift cards and they won’t cancel your sub. They only crack down on CC payments.

        • My nigerian one still works till this day

        • I was doing the GC method but decided to let it expire as i had stremio. To my surprise, it charged my 28d card successfully and still going for the past year or more.

      • You should always have your OneDrive backed up to an external hard drive

      • -1

Are you that petty that you made charge-back because they caught you? lol

        • I paid for something I did not receive. It's a matter of principle.

And as far as I'm concerned, I did not get "caught". If Netflix transacts their money through other countries to avoid paying tax, then they shouldn't complain about me doing the exact same to avoid their tax.

      • If you're that worried just add your main account as a family member and not as the account subscribed via Apple TR.

  • +1

I have been doing this for over a year now.
Super handy to get all the office apps.

  • +1

Not sure why this exact same deal was expired.

A bunch of us got emails telling us our prices had been increased drastically.

      • I got that email. But the price increase hasn’t applied yet…..

        • Oh interesting! I got that email and it showed up on my Apple subs, so I cancelled before it could go through.

      • Myself included

        • Ok. So it’s a joke:

          Last email from Microsoft:
“Effective 14 February 2025, the price for Microsoft 365 Family subscriptions will increase from TRY 309.99* per month to TRY 409.99* per month.”

          Last email from Apple:
          Microsoft OneDrive
          Microsoft 365 Family (Monthly)
          Renews 08 May 2025: ₺23,99

          Subtotal ₺19,99
          VAT charged at 20% ₺4,00
          TOTAL ₺23,99

Explain that one? Anyways not comparing.

          • @internet-stranger: I recall getting the same email but ive just checked my iTunes account and this month's renewal was still charged at the old 23.99 rate.

I'll keep an eye out for May's renewal but hopefully it doesnt change (i have enough credit to cover the next 3 and a half years' worth of sub).

  • It's showing ₺229.99/month for me

    • That would be the personal price, scroll to the very far right for family at the lower price

  • +1

It showing as 229.99 for personal and 29 for family lol

    • Family is showing 229.99 for me as well. How are you get it for 29?

  • Does it work.. tried it a few times, but did not work

  • I find that when I go to subscribe to the family plan, it subscribes via the store but the onedrive app stays stuck on loading loop that never completes, anyone else having this issue?

    • same issue

    • Same thing, everything was going so smoothly, but app is stuck on loading loop… Can't figure out any work around..

  • They raised the price for individual few months back but kept family one. I used this for more then a year and no issues. Even with the email few months back with increase of cost. Still same. Not sharing this though. Could possible use data as online storage and combine the 6tb together. Off course nothing important on it in case it gets cancelled.

  • Clicking Gem in Onedrive app is giving me "Something went wrong" and "sorry there was a problem accessing the store". Damn

  • -7

No deal, because Microsoft doesn't like it when users encrypt their data.
I did the Turkey trick last time around and Microsoft banned one of my family accounts for violating ToS. Apparently taking measures to prevent Microsoft from snooping on your private data is a violation of their ToS.

    • -7

haha, and here come the negs. Apparently you cannot highlight a valid problem without upsetting braindead fanboy consumers looking to rationalize their purchase.

      • -4

        I agree with you.
        No encryption, no buy.

        • +3

Sure. That’s not a valid neg vote though.
That’s like saying I don’t have kids so I’ll neg a pram deal.

        • OneDrive uses encryption doesn't it? Unless this has changed? They advertise FIPS 140-2 compliance and 256-bit AES Encryption at a file level

There's also the extra optional file vault which is encrypted further with a key not even Microsoft can access, it's not enabled by default though

      • +1

If people violate their terms then it’s valid to ban those users.
MS use a lot of deduplication (very simplified, store multiple copies of the same data once with links to the main copy). That means they can sell 1tb but in reality only 200gb might be unique data. Encryption stops this working.
If you want to keep data encrypted, use a service that supports it, like proton.

        • +2

That is a silly reason. Deduplication? What do you think people are storing on the cloud? The exact same files others are storing? If I'm storing a library of family photos and videos, deduplication will save zero gigabytes because no duplicates will exist.
800GB out of 1TB saved with deduplication? Please.

There is zero good reason to disallow client-side encryption. It is the most basic practice that allows users to protect their own data, especially in the event of a data breach. Disallowing encryption in the terms of service says only one thing: that Microsoft wants to know everything about you and your data, no matter how personal or private. They disapprove of the mere notion of user-end privacy.

          • +3

@SvcKpc: Which is strange, because I encrypt everything that I put into OneDrive, and I've still never been banned. This isn't against their ToS. How do you know that's why they banned you? Kind of convinced it was for another reason, and you're just choosing to not share it.

            • @ldd-mn: Whether it was a ban or something else is up for debate. I basically followed this guide https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/868528 to configure an encrypted union pool using rclone. I started backing up my old photo library via an SMB mount.

Next day, the encrypted pool isn't working. Turns out one of the OneDrive accounts (which received all the backup data) got a "Your account has been locked" and proceeds to ask for phone number verification. Every time I would try to complete verification, the website would return a "Something went wrong" error or a "This site is temporarily unavailable".

              Screenshots:
              https://i.imgur.com/ZYWJZu4.png
              https://i.imgur.com/aRK2NOd.png
              https://i.imgur.com/ULs1xOg.png

The only data that was uploaded was my photo library encrypted with rclone. I can only infer that to mean Microsoft wasn't happy seeing client-side encrypted data uploaded to OneDrive. You are free to come up with your own silly interpretation for why this happened.

              • +1

@SvcKpc: I think it's at least plausible that you got banned because you crossed some threshold like too much data too soon. Not that you broke any rules, but that heuristics flagged you as not a bunch of humans using M365.

I agree with your general premise, though - they want our data. I just don't necessarily think that was the explicit reason you were banned.

              • @SvcKpc: Ah, so you made a union pool using rclone. There's your reason. It was even mentioned in that original post 'Please be aware that this may cause Microsoft to disable one or more of your accounts if you do this'.

          • +4

@SvcKpc: I must disagree that Microsoft do not allow encryption prior to storage on onedrive. They in fact encourage it
There is also nothing in terms of service which states that you can’t encrypt your own data. Only that you can’t do anything illegal including backup of coprighted software.
I think anything beyond this in the discussion is just opinion.

            • -3

@PasqualeOz: A community moderator mentioning "encryption services" is not the same as Microsoft explicitly advocating for client-side encryption.

I really don't care whether you believe me or not. I am simply detailing my experience for anyone thinking of buying this turkey subscription with the intention of using client side encryption like rclone. I uploaded an encrypted folder and the account got locked the next day. None of those photos violated ToS, but that can't be a point of contention because they're encrypted, and Microsoft has no way of knowing what they are.

              https://i.imgur.com/ZYWJZu4.png

    • …I would say you were banned under ToS for not being in Turkey?

  • I subscribed a year ago with the same deal but i only have 1TB storage. Is this now increased to 6TB?

    • +1

Family package, 6 users with 1TB per user

      • Thanks. So it is same. Can confrim i am paying 23,99 per month.

        • I made 6 accounts and shared 5 folders with the main account.

          • @denserham: Good idea. I should link my other accounts. But I'd better limit my reliance on it as this TB cloud space wont last at this price forever.

  • I can’t seem to find any gem in the top right corner. Any advice for me?

    • You could also try opening the top left menu and clicking on the blue button at the bottom. Can’t remember exactly what the button says but it’s something like get premium now.
If you cant see that either, you probably have a subscription of some kind.

      • I think I need to cancel my subscription. Wait for it to end and then re-sign up in the family plan. I can’t seem to find a way to switch it from the personal plan to the family plan.

        • +1

Yes that’s correct, it will not work unless you are not currently subscribed.

          • @PasqualeOz: Thanks, I'll wait it out and see how I go when it expires!

  • careful of account deletions. Keep a backup somewhere

    • +2

As always, follow the 321 rule of important files.

      3 copies
      2 different types of media
      1 copy stored off site

  • Still have the dev subscription for some reason (they keep renewing me), but geez this is cheap

  • +1

What will happen if they cancel it like Netflix

    • I would assume typical OneDrive expired terms - from memory you have 30 days continued access, at 90 days it becomes read-only, after 6 months Microsoft may delete your files.

There's reports of account deletions, but that's back when people signed up for a Turkish account via a VPN and used a false Turkish address. That actually violates ToS.

Paying via iOS Turkey and using an Australian account likely doesn't violate ToS; you haven't provided a fraudulent address to Microsoft.

  • So my 365 personal expired, and after waiting a few days, the gem reappeared in the top right of the OneDrive app with the option for 6TB at 23.99 with first month free (which is the Family plan although it does not explicitly say). Signed up to it but nothing seems to have changed.

However, I can see that 365 Family is now an active subscription (currently a free trial) within Apps > Subscriptions on my phone. The gem and options to upgrade to Family are still available to select in the OneDrive app as if it is still giving me the option to change my subscription - this should ordinarily not be visible if you are subscribed to a plan correct? Selecting the Family plan again says "you are currently subscribed to this". There doesn't seem to be an active subscription flowing through to 365 on my PC either.

Thought everything would just work seamlessly after changing subscription. Any ideas?

    • Should flow through, just double check what account you are subscribing from on OneDrive app and make sure it matches PC (or make sure it’s added to family).
I noticed the change after 1-2 hours but maybe it’s different for everyone.

    • Is it 6TB each, total (ie 1TB ea), shared?

Edit: Googled it; total (1TB ea). 6 users. In theory we could go full OzBargain and start sharing family licenses via forums lol

  • Turkey GC is 15% cheaper than last year and 40% cheaper than 2 years ago based on my records. Keep it up AUD :)

  • so noob question, this is my first time subscribing to M365 with Turkey iCloud account.
After I subscribed successfully, can I switch to my main iCloud, so that I can use my main GameCenter for my game progress?

    • Yes

      • cool!
that means I dont have to worry about changing my icloud back in my iPad then, for each month when the subs due?
tho I added some balance enough for few years subs
