  • Followed the link, it says 39.95 US - how do you get 31.95?

  • Same, followed the link, no clear indication of how to get it for $31.95 a year (I'm already subscribed but not yearly).

    Did you screw up OP or did you forget the code or something?

  • Weird. I got $31.95

    I got a similar email as my month subscription was coming to an end.

    The actual URL is https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/rejoin-vpn-subsc…

    • Should I update the link with this?

      • I would think so. It's a 'targeted' offer, but doesn't have a token so anyone can use it.

  • What do u mean by cancelling the service and it remains active for until it expires?

    • Cancelling the subscription, not the service

    • It sets up a recurring yearly payment. So you keep the account and cancel the recurrence, although it sets up the recurring payment for $31.95, so it's a good deal for next year. I'm not going to cancel the recurring payment.

      • Yeah that's smart! :)

    • Never mind, already answered

    I've been with PIA for just under a year now. I used to get 1mb/s download easily from their servers (ADSL2+) previously but recently I haven't been able to get any higher than 250kb/s. Has anyone else experienced a slowdown or is it just me?

    • Speed can vary a bit between servers, might be worth trying a different one.

    • Having just set it up, I'm testing it now. I can get a maximum speed of 1.6 MB/sec and for the most part I'm getting between 1.2-1.5 MB/sec.

      Have you read the setup guide for the application you're using? Perhaps you need to set it to use a socks proxy for maximum speed.

      I signed up about a month ago..
      when I signed up I did a speed test.

      Without PIA: 1.4MB/s
      PIA Sydney: 1.2MB/S
      PIA Japan (use this to watch footy): 600KB/s

      after the first week, I now only get a maximium of 200KB/s on all servers… usually speed test doesnt even load.

    • I generally get good speeds, just tested it.

      PIA ON: 9.36 Mb/S Down and 0.45 Up.
      PIA OFF: 30.92 Mb/S Down and 0.73 Up.

      • What server are you using?

        • Hmm that was the automatic choice one. But it said it was located in San Fran on Speed Test.

    • use nslookup to try different IP

    when will this deal expire? i still have 20 days left with current subscription.

  • Is this available to new users or only as a renewal to existing users?

    • +1

      I successfully took up this offer and I've never been with them before.

    Many thanks. Just purchased, concurrently using with AirVPN which ends in a month. Price of PIA is much more competitive, will see if the service is as good as AirVPN.

    • how do you find AirVPN? And vs PIA?
      I am considering to join AirVPN..

      Does PIA or AirVPN support Synology NAS?

  • PIA is a US BASED provider, any concerns on privacy details of customers? Any views?

    hoping to find a provider that supports flashed router, my current Witopia doesn't.

      • No they've claim they don't keep logs.
        The NSA or FBI can force them to not only keep logs, but to compell them to say they don't.

        Don't do anything dodgy & I'd be careful even using it for obtaining copyrighted material.

        • +3

          And where did you find out that NSA or FBI can compel them to do this?

        • +5

          @nedski:
          They're called National Security letters

          There's plenty of comment from EFF, ACLU and security expert & NSA critic Bruce Schneier, along with the Snowden documents.

          The uninformed shouldn't be so quick to comment :-)

        • @supabrudda:
          Please link to proof.

        • @nedski: Seriously wow lol. Oblivious.

        • +1

          @Diji1: From your link:

          A national security letter (NSL) is an administrative subpoena issued by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in authorized national security investigations "to protect against international terrorism or clandestine intelligence activities" (i.e., spying).

          By law, NSLs can request only non-content information, for example, transactional records and phone numbers dialed.

          Doesn't look like it gives them the ability to go after copyright infringements.

        • +3

          @Diji1:

          Yes so obvious that you have ENTIRELY misinterpreted your own linked article.

          A national security letter compels companies to hand over information. Since the US has no mandatory data retention laws, VPN providers are not forced to log. So companies don't log and also wont have anything to hand over.

          Also I just asked a question to back up the initial claim and you jump in with such disrespect.. Is your life that empty that you need little thrills like this to vindicate your sad existence?

        • @Diji1:
          Lol. Please link to where it saids they tell the VPNs to secretly keep logs but to tell everyone that they don't. Thanks.

        • +1

          @MrFunSocks:

          Just because it says one thing, doesn't make the reality more likely. They have used that letter to do whatever they want to in the past. Back door hacking, jacking, all that crap.

        • I find it hard to believe NSA and/or FBI will get involved with copyright infringement. They're probably only tracking down pedos.

      • +1

        They claim they don't keep logs, but you be sure that when (not if) someone commits a serious crime using the service, the VPN provider will forward logs and billing information to the relevant authority.

        Always assume your internet use can be monitored.

        "But they really promised they wouldn't keep logs!" doesn't really hold up in court.

        • -1

          But if it comes out in court that they did actually in fact keep logs then their business is destroyed.

          It would also have to come out in court to prove that X used Y VPN IP.

        • +1

          @nedski:

          thinks US Court testimony and evidence are in the public record after 9/11

          Oh wow

          How is that tinfoil hat of yours…

      You can set it up with a router running DD-WRT.

      • Thanks, that is the intent … getting a flashed router with pre-configured DD-WRT from Flashed Router and going with a compatible VPN provider.

        • It's simple enough to flash a compatible router yourself. I followed a tutorial on the DD-WRT website to successfully flash my Netgear WNDR3800.

      • Heads up that setting it on a router level requires a good router CPU. You will be capped to a certain speed if your router isn't fast enough.

        For the especially keen, you can pick up a dual core router like the Netgear Nighthawk R7000.

  • I am with them and have no issues setting this VPN up on my Ubuntu media server and using it for Torrents.

    Good price too.

  • Any deals for new subscribers?

  • Few reviews / options here:
    https://torrentfreak.com/anonymous-vpn-service-provider-revi…

    PIA looks ok, but the fact they are US based is not ideal IMO…

    • yea, i second that too. am currently looking at vpn.ac. abit more expensive as compared to others (me thinks)

    • I've used them for about a year and a half now without complaints and they have the right attitude, but I agree i'd feel better if they were based elsewhere.

  • Been using since their last 2 year deal, and has been great!

  • how does PIA compare to ibVPN, ibVPN had a four year deal for $US60.

    • 4 yr for USD 60?? how to get the deal? i just joined ibvpn 2 wks ago for same price but only 1 yr!

      • You could probably ask them to make it 4 years for $59 else you'll cancel. Just mention the stack social deal. They seem pretty keen for the sale! :|
