Toshiba CB30-B007 13.3" Chromebook $295.80 @ JB Hi-Fi

This is a great price for this chromebook. One of the best out there. It doesn't have the FHD screen but you get better batter life. 2GB ram is more than adequate. I've been using this machine for the past 2 weeks (I paid more than $295 for mine).

I realllllly want the FHD screen.. The 1366x768 panel isn't even IPS :'(

    • The screen is not nearly as good as IPS and other FHD screens out there. However, it's more than sufficient IMO. It's not as bad as the reviews make it out to be. Battery life is worth the trade I think and the text won't be that small (plus matte screen vs glossy FHD). Also, I recall reading somewhere that the FHD version in Australia cost close to $600.

  • But chrome is not practical like windows

Have you used Chrome OS? IF you spend most of your time within the chrome browser, then this laptop is for you. You can also Install Linux on it via Crouton. It's easy. You can run windows applications through Wine if you need to. However, most people would have a desktop or laptop for windows and might need a travel laptop or something like this for other purposes.

Microsoft office is what I use most and all formatting gone weird and documents look different on MS then in Google docs making it a nightmare to edit or even open MS docs.

    • +1

Have you tried the MS Office online app for editing? I haven't but I would expect it to be more compatible.

  • Good deal. However I wish it would be 4GB ram instead of 2GB. It's not upgradable… and 2GB is not enough.

Depends on your uses. I thought the same until I got the machine and tried it out. No lag or stuttering from youtube videos and I can multitask in chrome (5-10 tabs open) whilst streaming music without any issues.

I agree, I was skeptical about buying a Chromebook with only 2GB ram but have had no issues with lag/stuttering streaming HD videos with multiple tabs open. Very impressed with its performance so far and would definitely recommend them.

    • For ChromeOS? Are you getting excessing swapping? Doing what? Twenty tabs open at once?

      • I have 21 tabs open right now :)

        • I usually have between 50 - 100 tabs open at once, but then I'm on a 16GB mbp. It helps using "The Great Suspender" though, it will suspend unused tabs after a few hours, bringing them back whenever they are activated.

    • Doesn't windows take 2GB memory on its own? ChromeOS I am sure is different (not that I have used it)

No 1080p no care. I don't why the likes of JB don't stock the 1080p version.

    • The Toshiba Chromebook 2's FHD screen is amazingly good. Would highly recommend over this if budget allows.

    • Who has a cheap full-hd chromebook in Oz?

The 4GB, full-HD version is only A$413 shipped from Amazon.

What's chrome book? Is it only for internet browsing?

What about word documents and such?

I have not said this for a while, but really … Just (profanity) Google it! The question has kind of been asked before, and excellent articles have been written.
Still can't be bothered? tl;dr: its good, get one. It does offline word processing, or web-based office-365.
