    Mummy…. whats a Dee..Vee..Dee?

  • Giveaway Version doesn't support future update and technical support

    • Sure, but you can use it like full version as long as you wish if you don't uninstall or update it. :-)

  • Hmm, runs a bit slower than DVDshrink, but has a reasonable set of output options that should suit most needs. I guess spinning plastic is getting as lame as spinning rust - tho I do like to back-up my audio by scratching it into some wax on a cardboard circle with a toothpick and paper cone, so I'll have something to listen too when the Zombie apocalypse arrives…

    • Thanks for your comment. We are improving the program all the time. Please let us know if you have any suggestion or question.

  • Thanks!

  • Rips and encodes in one go - decent filesize and quality and it's much faster than "DVD Shrink + Handbrake" combo. Unfortunately the first DVD I tested it on (Spaceballs) had black bars put ALL AROUND it. If this could be changed in settings, I'd rate it 5 stars… Until then I rate it 0, because it's useless.

    • Hi Nukkels, thanks for your comments. We have tested a lot of DVDs, and no pillarbox, even got no feedback about it so far. If you encounter this problem indeed, please contact us at [email protected] to help improve the program.

This free, unregistered, version limits you to converting the first 15 minutes of the DVD Unless I'm missing something

    • Yes, you forgot to activate the program. The license key (License.txt) included in the zip file you've downloaded.

    Isn't ripping movies illegal?

    • Only if you don't own the copy you are ripping. You can rip copies of DVD's you've purchased to back them up.

    • It's not clearly prohibited for backing up your own purchased movies. For personal use, not for commercial purpose.
In addition, different countries have different rules.

I tried it on a scratched DVD - I managed to pull 98.7% off the main [1.5 hour] track before i gave up. It spent about an hour working and seeking, and although there was at times a 1-2 minute delay in being able to a <alt><tab> over to other windows or regain focus, [I7 2600s, 8 Gb] that's more a function of Win7. It surrendered gracefully and cancelled out fairly quickly, when I decided to call it a night, tho it took Windows a couple of minutes to leave the drive alone.
I little more intuitive than DVD shrink, with a further conversion step, but not quite as much control over compression rates. I haven't checked as to whether, like DVDShrink, it can strip region encoding. [And for anyone suggesting that is illegal, anything akin to suggesting I can listen to purchased music in my lounge, but lose the licence if I go to the bathroom makes the licencee the sick bird…]

    • Hi terrys, this program also can remove region code limitation. You can adjust parameter settings to compress file size (such as bitrates). But for scratched DVDs, we do not guarantee that what will happen during ripping process. If you want to help improve this software, please contact us at [email protected]. We would like to receive your feedback!

      • NP - the scratched DVD was picked as an "impossible" trial to see how it would handle such a situation - that it kept seeking and gathered what it could without driving the CPU passed 73 C [tho it was close LOL] and still allowed as much control as Win7 would allow is definitely a feature, not a bug. It was an heroic effort.

  • what is the advantage of this over makemkv?

    • Hi skyva, I'm afraid that only through your own experience can you find the advantages and disadvantages. Right? :-)
