10 movies at $13.35 a ticket ($126 + $7.5 delivery) is not an amazing deal, especially considering a maximum use time of 6 months.

If you're with either Telstra or Optus you can get $11/10 tickets respectively. Most motorclubs (ie RACV, RACVQ) do between $10-$11 tickets as well.

  • +5

I could get Hoyts vouchers from Optus for $ 11/ticket and no booking fee charged when booking the seats online. The 3D and Xtremescreen sessions still attract surcharges for Optus tickets or this one but I still think Optus one is better because you don't have to buy the whole book of vouchers!

Sorry but it's not a bargain for me!

    • -1

I agree with what you said but I don't agree with you negging it, vouchers cost more than e-tickets its not the same thing. people prefer vouchers because you have 6 months to use don't have to book it in

      • +1

With the Optus Yes Tickets thing you buy as many as you're going to use the same day you're going to use them. They basically have no expiry because they're like buying a ticket at the counter.

        • -3

          basically have no expiry

They have an expiry - you have to book it for the session which means they have less than a one day expiry. Once the session is over they are no longer valid. you can't book sessions in advance for the next 6 months and you also can't change your mind on movie. you have no guarantee the option to purchase these will still be available in 6 months.

These are not the same item and you can't compare them.

        • +1

@kima: Yeah. Just like those tickets at the counter. You can and should literally buy the Yes Optus tickets while standing in line at the cinema.

        • +1

@kima: I don't understand what you are talking about. It does have an expiry date but My Yes Optus ticket usually have 5-6 months expiry date and I've kept them for months before without any problems.

        • @squirellwing: I haven't used optus because hoyts isn't near me. Tantryl said tickets - buy as many as you're going to use the same day you're going to use them

vouchers have 6 months to use, tickets need to be booked for sessions. vouchers and tickets are different

        • @kima: Ah… I think I got where the misunderstanding is. I think me and tantryl are using the term voucher and tickets interchangeably. Optus only sells e-voucher for 10$ a pop-valid for 6 months which can then be redeemed in the cinema or online. So it's the same situation as this deal really. BTW Optus rewards are not only for Hoyts-they're also for Grand Cinemas, Reading, ACE and SUN.

I've been getting vouchers from BUPA for 11.50 which charge a booking fee for online but oddly no fee to upgrade to xtremescreen. Odd that they have so many different types

    • Sorry but it's not a bargain for me!

That's not a valid reason to neg.

You yourself pointed out a situation in which this deal will work out cheaper.

      • OK fair enough - how do I revoke the neg vote?

        • Up the top under the title, click votes, and you can do it in there.

      • -1

Yeah, but valid reasons to neg:

The deal is not the cheapest available

Which is why it's not a deal to him…

        • He pointed out a situation in which it would be the cheapest.

        • @gilbarc: What situation? Both require surchages for 3D/Xtreme… ?

  • +2

Man, they used to sell 10 for $100 as their special price, this really isn't a great deal. My local news agency sells them for like $13 anyway. I just use the telstra tickets tbh.

    http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/sydney-city/theatre-film/-10-…

this is a better deal for event - if you want e-tickets for event and not vouchers. vouchers are better than e-tickets

    • Seems fishy… You tried ?

      • Yes I've been getting them from him for months, he used to be on ebay had a 100% seller reputation but stopped because of the fees - he accepts paypal only

  • -1

pretty poor deal. Usual price a ticket should be no more than $12 with no strings attached.

    • -2

Can you point to a cheaper deal that includes Xtremescreen and 3D?

      • +1

unless the T&C's have changed, don't Optus tickets work for Xtremescreen without surcharge? In saying that, I havn't been to hoyts for over a year so they may have changed that. 3D is a surcharge though. I remember being pleasantly surprised when I wasn't charged an upgrade fee for Xtremescreen.

        • +1

Optus tickets no longer work with xtremescreen, been like that for about 6 months or more, its $3 extra I think. Still a good price since they are always discounted and you can download the tickets straight away.

      • None of them include that. you need to pay a surcharge!

  • +2

Be careful with these, I had tickets that stated they included 3d movies but the Hoyts person at the counter refused to waive the fee pointing to the terms and conditions can change anytime clause… Assholes, my cinema preference has been village ever since

    • +4

I don't think that's acceptable, did you lodge a complaint?

  • +1

I get tickets @11$ from RACV. This is def better bargain than buying at the counter for the folks who dont have access to other sources.

  • Not that much of a deal, I only bite if it's $10 ea voucher ($100), which makes it par to Yes Reward vouchers. Conditions are all the same and I can buy less than 10 (less to lob off if I didn't manage to use them all up). These things use to have 12 months expiry, too.

  • Except on Saturday from 5pm :-(

  • Do they slap you with another fee when they rock up at the cinema? Esp for 3D films?
