Telstra wins the starter kit battle.
The VF modem with 3Gb deserves it's own post.

    • EDIT:Modem only includes 500Mb,My apologies.

  • +1

No mention of the new Woolworths Mobile plans? They start tomorrow. But Telstra this time instead of Optus. No 4G of course.

    https://www.woolworthsconnect.com.au/

    • +5

Same inclusions as VAYA, almost double the price, no 4g, why would anyone want to use their service?

      • +1

        Because Telstra.

        • +3

For double the price? No thanks.

        • +5

@illumination: When it comes down to coverage vs nothing, you have limited options.

        • +1

@illumination: When it comes down to having a working service with occasional dropouts compared to a service that is so bad it effectively doesn't work on your daily commute and CBD (Adelaide, O-Bahn bus corridor) then yes … oh and is usually terrible including complete dropouts at home then yes, I will pay double for Telstra.

Why would I pay for something that doesn't work when I need it and causes large amounts of battery drain?

        • @illumination: and when it comes down to having 5gb quota and cannot use them until the end of the month, that $$ saving means $$ waste.

        • +1

It's only Telstra 3g, 4g on optus is better. And 4g is pretty much everywhere in the metro areas

        • @Diji1:

Well what do you expect living in extremely remote areas of Australia like Adelaide?

        • I just did a quick search on "vaya" here on Oz-B, and have never seem so many neg and bad comments on a telco - which is saying something.
And vaya only do postpaid, ie surprise billing.

So I think the answer is more "because vaya".

I haven't seen Woolworths' phone offerings to really be anywhere near competitive this time around.

Have to pass unfortunately until they lift their game.

  • What's the typical expiry on the Optus starter packs?

    • The $10 Kits I was getting in March all had an expiry in October 2015.

      • +4

That's a horrible deal compared to Telstra $1 packs which expire in May 2017.

        • The Telstra $1 packs finish today… if I buy one, can I transfer my own number to the sim and pick the pre-paid Telstra deal I want to use, or is it locked to a deal and number? I have a phone which is locked to Telstra but am getting my number transferred from company name to personal name today or tomorrow…

        • +2

@volgo: You can buy one today and activate it and port your number later.

        • @forumninja: fantastic, my wife just headed out to do the shopping so I've redirected her to Woollies! :)

        • Any data included? I thought it was calls only.
With the Optus starter pack it can just be bought at the local Woolworths correct? Wasn't too sure what to do with the shop-a-docket

  • How am I supposed to get a year's supply when they cap it at one starter pack with the EDR card 😭

    • +1

      Multiple EDR cards.

    • Is it not possible to do multiple transactions with the same EDR card?

Or do they actually track each card's individual 'redemption'?

  • +1

TA the catalogue legend strikes again. Thanks TA! It seems that the special on the instant pasta stuff alternates every week between Coles and Woolies. Not that I'm complaining.

    • +1

one has to wonder what TA has on imissbeans that's stopping her from posting the deal herself! :-)

      • Time? :p

        • heh nope, as she is the one who scans & uploads the pics to the web iirc

So morning fresh has been downsized again to 400ml? I used to buy them when they were 500ml and the product was actually of high quality, they then downsized to 450ml and the product became absolute rubbish. So now they are down to 400ml!!!

    • Has it actually declined in quality? I can't tell a difference between brands though, soap and detergents are not new, complicated technology or anything lol (despite shower gels, dishwashing liquids, "non-soap" surfactants claiming mystical cleaning properties by way of suggestion and association through various marketing and sales devices)

      • +1

I had stocked up on Australian made Morning fresh, last month i was down to last 2 bottles, bought 1 recently Indonesian made bottle and i can tell it's piss weak compared to the old stuff, so I'm switching to Palmolive now, at least still made in Australia god knows how long for

        • @ bonz

thought their stuff was made in Thailand ? (Palmolive)

        • +1

          @snappy1234:
Are we talking about dish washing liquid? i know soaps are Thailand made, bought mine 2 weeks ago and i almost always check country of origin, especially foodstuffs

        • @bonz:

Yeah thought last time i looked was thailand ?

      • It most def has declined in quality…no where near as potent as it used to be, also leaves my hands feeling ultra dry.

    • what is the best dish washing liquid?

      • I use the cheapo from aldi, and my dishes and my hands love it

  • Optus Samsung E3309T $14.50

Does this qualify for the 3 months Netflix?

      • I guess I'll have to buy another 2 phones. Let's see… I'll get $10 off a $40 spend (everyday card offer), plus I've gotten 7.5% off the egift card. So, 32.5% off will bring the phones down to $19.56, divided by 6 means Netflix HD for $3.27 a month… plus another 2 phones to throw in the drawer.

        Winning!!! :)

        • Limit 1

        • @hj0809: got 2 @ Chatswood this morning :)

      • +1

        @KingOfChameleons

Thanks. Title modified to show this deal as well :)

  • Thanks TA

woohoo 4x Sirena Tuna cans for $7

  • We don't usually get Mr Donut here in Canberra, so I'm hoping this will be a nationwide venture.

  • I know with Telstra, there is a way to register new sim, transfer included $30 to existing sim and apply it to chosen plan. Good way to save money.

Anyone know if this is possible on Optus, or specifically if I could use it on my existing old Woolworths $30 $250/5GB/45 days plan? Would love to get a 45 day service for just $5!!

    • See Optus me2you, but you cannot transfer credit to the old woolies plans. (excluded).

      • Thanks

      • Also they (Optus) have a restriction the account must have been active for 30 Days.

        • Daily and daily plus are also excluded

  • +1

So if i buy 2 Vodafone $30 Starter Packs $15.00 for $30 i can get an optus $30 starter pack for $5 with edr and 4c a liter off fuel good deal. I hope Vodafone extends the unlimited data on weekends beyond 2-8-15 i like to max out.

  • it's donut time!

  • Not sure if this is the correct place to be asking this, but if I were to buy lets say 2 of the Optus Samsung E3309T would I be able to get 2 of the 3 Months Netflix Code BUT I want to know if I would be able to stack these codes in the same Netflix account, meaning a 6 month total of Netflix?

    Thanks.

    • +2

      Yes, you can stack

      • For the prepaid sims do I activate it and put it in the new phone? Can't I just put it in any phone to receive the text?

        • +1

Any compatible phone/device will be able to receive the text

        • @tofu: Cheers mate

  • +1

Be careful when buying the samsung E3309, my sims were expired and it was a bit of a nightmare to return them. They were trying to offer to replace them with $2 sims, they didn't understand that you need the sim from the phones to activate for netflix.

Also my new sims have not activated yet after 6 hours. (online)

    Beware.

    • yeh, this happened to me. I didn't bother to proceed to buy the $2 sim.
how did you get yours sorted?

      • With difficulty. I argued with the store manager saying that if food had expired then i'd be entitled to a refund, they replied that the reason they were on special was that they were expired, told them it was not stated in the catalogue. Told them either give me a refund or swap them. They finally caved and swapped the phones over for newer stock. So check the dates on the phone.

        • How do you do that, isn't the card inside the sealed pack with the date printed on it

        • @turbodude: You can see the expiry on the side of the box :)

  • What is EDR? How does this compare to the $1 Telstra sim card deal if you spend $30 at woolworths?

  • Thanks Op Bought $30 Optus prepaid sim card for $5 with my EDR = Every Day Rewards card. Yields $350 in calls and 1.5gb data for 30 days. Like Op said just requires you to spend $30 on groceries, note the woolies i went to wanted photo id to buy the sim

    • Do you get 3 months free netflix with that too?
