  • Are you sure this works in Australia? Rogers is a Canadian telco so might be only applicable to rides in Canada only.

I previously entered some US code in the Uber app and have $25 US credit along with AU credit. This is coming up as a promo but doesn't state currency.

    • As far as im aware, this is how it would look like if it was region/country specific

This is what i got for entering the Promo code ANIMENEXT20 Specific to New Jersey USA

Here's 10% off of your ride to or from AnimeNEXT! (NJ only, Expires 7/1)
      ANIMENEXT20 4/30/2015 6:26am AEST - 7/1/2015 6:26am AEST

although i would agree with easternculture that as there is no geographical restriction mentioned it should be valid everywhere

previously CPREADER14 was valid everywhere but then changed to new zealand only

note that this is a ride voucher not credit

how we know if works in aus or sydney?

  • These generally only work in the country they are issued?

  • +1

Apologize in advance as I am completely new and just heard about Uber. I am thinking of creating an Uber account. However, I was told that it is illegal in Sydney if you want to make an extra few dollars driving people, can somebody please confirm whether that is true?

    • +3

Yes, it is unlawful for the driver.

For you as a passenger, you are not covered by the vehicle owner's insurance if you are injured during an Uber trip.

Uber may compensate you. They claim to have insurance to cover passengers, but refuse to show proof or this - and the Australian Insurance Council or Association or whatever it is called have stated that there is no policy in the world that would cover passengers being driven by Uber drivers.

      • +3

So, there is no point in using Uber beside to save a couple of dollars if you're not covered in the event of an accident?

        • +9

Has anyone successfully sued taxi cartel for anything, let alone injuries or sexual advances.
Are you sure our colourful taxi drivers in Sydney is super safe super honest never take passengers for a ride and absolutely gives excellent customer service after waiting for you for hours at the airport and you give them a short trip fare of $13???

        • +3

You cna use the Uber app to call a regular licenced taxi, which enables you to see its position and arrival time, pay through the app bypassing cabcharge, etc. This way all insurance is covered, and you're dealing directly with the driver.

        • correct there is no point using uber apart from saving a couple bux. sometimes it is a bit quicker than a cab to arrive, but that just depends on how many drives around your area

        • besides uberx, there are other options - https://www.uber.com/cities/sydney

passengers are always covered by uber if not the owner/driver

My post was about injury or death due to a traffic accident while traveling in an 'Uber vehicle'.

        • @tonester:

          No, that is not correct.

Uber may or may not compensate passengers. It is up to them. They have no insurance policy that covers passengers.

        • +1

          @tonester:

          No, they lied.

I distinctly remember a spokesperson for the Insurance Industry Council stating that there was no policy anywhere in the world that would cover passengers being carried 'illegally' in an unlicensed taxi.

Uber continually refuse to disclose the details of the policy they claim to have.

I can't find any link at the moment, and indeed my recollection is that it was in a radio interview anyway.

How is it legally any different to driving a friend around?

        • Maybe no different, but you should be covered by TAC insurance (Victoria) or whatever your compulsory government injury insurance is. There's a reason registrations are so high - it's not really a tax so much as a compo payment.

        • exactly that - you can legally share costs with friends but possibly not strangers :)

        • How is it legally any different to driving a friend around?

I believe that the difference is that the driver is charging for the journey, and is not your friend or relative.

        • +1

          @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

but you should be covered by TAC insurance

Not if you're driving commercially and aren't registered… Cost a lot more if you are commercial…

        • Different because if you're using the vehicle for business purposes but you only have private car insurance, neither you or they are covered in the event of an accident… guessing this is the situation with most uber drivers who use their private vehicle for this

They might on the off chance have business insurance but i highly doubt it.

      • Isn't the point of compulsory third party insurance to compensate ones that are injured in an motor accident due to an at fault driver? My understanding is if you are in a Uber that's in an accident where you get hurt, if the uber driver is at fault the third party insurance of the uber car is going to compensate you, if the other party is at fault their insurance is going to compensate you.

Unfortunately, it does not work that way. The Uber driver is acting as an unlicensed taxi, so the insurance does not cover his passengers.

if you're talking about uberx then it might be illegal for the driver

  • Thanks OP, hopefully it works.

  • +1

    Worked for me. Thanks OP!

  • -1

Didn't work for me - existing user. Sorry Eastern :(

  • +1

I was able to add it, existing user, but it did pop up and state 'Rogers customers only'. Not sure how / if they verify that. Anyone redeemed the coupon (had an actual ride with it) yet?

  • I tried stacking it with a referral code on a new account and it didn't let me :(

  • +4

I just applied the promo code and it worked!
It said "You've unlocked $25 off one ride".
    I'm an existing user

  • +2

Seemed to work for me but the free ride is not listed where it usually is.

  • +3

I got the message where it was successfully applied but when I checked my uber credit it hasn't changed. Is there a limit on free uber credit?

    • Pretty sure there isn't a limit.

    • Same here. Has anyone else seen their credit reflect the $25?

    • +1

it's a ride voucher not credit

  • Applied! Thanks OP

  • New Uber user here, thinking of using UberX to take my wife and I to the airport tomorrow, will the cars be generally big enough to accommodate for 2 large luggages? Any other issues I should be wary about?

    • you don't know the size of the car. usually a small car.

but just chuck it in their back seats. not your problem.

Not so long as you get there safely.

  • +2

It's one thing to add it but another as to whether the discount is given. It doesn't look like it will be given the comment above.

Will Uber ever give a discount to existing customers that works?

  • Exisiting User and the code worked!
I think ill need to use some uber soon.

  • +2

Applied and it worked. verify it by logging online through a browser and the promo will show up under payments.

  • Hmmmmm applied to my existing account which said it was successful.
Logged out and back in, however nothing in Payments tab to show its there:
    NO ACTIVE PROMOTIONS

  • how do i apply it please?

edit, aha ok in the payments page… seems to have worked for me, thanks

  • It looks like it's applied to the account, but can anyone actually verify that it does give you the $25 credit after a trip??

  • +3

Thanks it applied, a bit skeptical on whether it will work when taking a trip though

  • Can't apply, after adding making new account after entering PayPal or credit there's a error adding payment method, doesn't matter what method same comes up any idea?

  • Done - Thank you! Worked for me in Melbourne.

    • did you take a ride or just apply the code?

      • -1

Just the code - But i logged in to my account from a computer and I have the credit waiting in the payments section.

Every valid credit i've ever used has been in that section.

Every time I've got a code that was approved IN the app - but not on the website - It didn't work.

FREE $25 off One Uber Ride for New and Existing Users [USA & Canada Only?]

    edit - source:
Enroll in ROAM LIKE HOME™ and get a free ride with Uber (up to a max. of $25) that can be used in Canada or on your next trip to the U.S.

  • Means world wide which includes everywhere.

  • +3

I think until anyone who successfully TOOK a ride and that it minus $25 from the fare, we cannot say that the promo works. Otherwise it is just a fancy promo code that shows up on your app.

  • under payments I have around 4-5 promotion codes that are active.

When I go on a trip, will they be used automatically one by one?

    e.g.
Living Social! $25 off your first ride on Uber!

    LIVINGSOCIAL152/16/2015 2:03am UTC - 1/1/2016 2:03am UTC
    UberDINING with Yumtable

    UberDINING4/21/2015 2:41am UTC - 12/31/2015 1:59pm UTC
You've unlocked $25 off one ride care of Rogers & Roam Like Home! Rogers customers only.

    RoamWithUber1/22/2015 11:19pm UTC - 1/1/2016 4:59am UTC

Or will they just be all used up on the first trip?

    • It will be one by one, start from top.

  • +1

    Boober … topless taxi service.

    • +3

Where do I send my kickstarter money?

  • +1

    Damn, looks like it's expired
"Promotion has a redemption limit and too many users have entered the code"

  • I have this code under my payments section as well as a $25 credit for inviting someone. When I take my next ride, does it select one automatically or do I choose one to use? How does it work. Cheers.

  • +1

Had a friend add it and he just took a ride, code didn't give a discount, so it must be geoblocked :-(

  • I just signed up and created an account using the referral link. How do I check if this credit has been successfully applied into my account.

  • Seems to still be working, added to my account anyway.

  • +1

Has anyone actually received a discount for their ride yet?

    • +1

didn't apply on my last trip

    • +1

Didn't work for my ride this morning, even though the code is active on my account

  • There are many cases where Uber has not payed out on insurance. Google it.

Uber can not pay out on insurance for passengers, because they have no insurance that covers passengers being driven in uberX (in Australia at least). They just pay from their own funds and deduct the payment from any tax they may have to pay.

  • +2

The ride I took after applying the code appeared in my web account as $0 for maybe a couple of hours…but I didn't receive the usual notification from the app telling me what the ride cost. When I finally did, it came up as the full cost, no deal :/

  • +1

I received a 1c discount off my $26 ride which is strange.

  • +1

Was logged as a credit in the app but was not applied when I took a trip - doesn't work.

    • Thanks for the feedback. Bummer.
