The Desktop wedge table. Handy device works well like the 7xs but has a screen if you need a portable device as well.

  • Love the windows "screen grab"… it must also run photoshop

    • Nah, you underestimate the power of MS Paint.

  • With Bing??

    • It's the version that Microsoft gives to manufacturers for free or a small fee. It's exactly the same as Windows 8.1 Standard, but with a different name.

      • Correct. Basically same as Win 8.1 standard but there are certain things the manufacturer cannot do e.g. they cannot change the IE search engine, it must be set to default (Bing). However the user themselves can change it.

    1. Supports external monitor at 1920x1080?

    2. No internal battery?

    3. What does the micro USB port do?

      1. Yes

      2. No. It's just like the PIPO X7/X7s and other Mini PCs, but with a screen.

      3. The micro usb has a variety of uses. For example, on Android you could use it for USB OTG and connect your phone or tablet on Windows.

It seems to have a slightly improved thermal solution over the x7/x7s if that's important to anyone

Had one of these for a couple of weeks now, great little device. Working perfectly and plenty cool.

    • this may sound like a strange question but what sort of angle is the "wedge". Thinking of mounting this on the top of my cars dash but i dont think it will be viewable in that situation

      • +1

Probably not suited for that. It is a good angle for on your lap but doesn't look right looking at it straight on.
Just made a quick measurement and it is approximately 18.3 degrees based on my crappy high school maths.

        • awesome, thanks

    • How do you rate the screen? Viewing angles and colours OK?
      Touchscreen sensitivity is ok?

      • +1

Works really well. Resolution is probably quite low but honestly the screen is so small you wouldn't want any bigger res. I was surprised as I thought the screen would suck horribly but it was perfectly acceptable for sitting on my desk and using all day. Multitouch worked perfectly.

        • Sounds good! It's definitely 1280x800?
Does the Android side work well?

        • +1

          @eug:
Yep that's the res. Honestly I only booted Android once. "Yep that looks like Android" back to Windows. I might remove it in future. Space is limited only 16GB per OS but Pipo has done a good job cutting the size of Windows to around 5GB

  • Hi Rep, What does this mean from the website ? Does it mean it cannot do mirroring or extended display to external monitor?
Note: If the Windows 8.1 with Bing OS is chosen, same screen display is impossible to achieve. Under whatever circumstances, if the user wants to operate on the monitor, he/she has to drag the cursor to the right till the same screen springs up on monitor.

    • I read it as that it doesn't mirror the screen, but extends it ("same screen display". It outputs to FHD [1080].

    • Windows 8.1 with Bing can duplicate the display. I think they're referring to extending the display onto another monitor.

  • This would be alright for a POS terminal..

    • probably a really good use for it actually

    • When i first saw it I though it was some fish finder.

  • Hi rep, I'm interested in this product. I have a couple of questions

    1. can the screen be turned off or have to be on all the time when connecting to TV for both Android and Windows mode?

    2. Although I know this device is pretty cheap and has low resolution, I don't expect a sharp display like high-end tablet. But is it grainy or pixelated? What is the viewing angle (colour shift)?

@frostee could you share your experience more about this device such as its pros and cons? Thanks

      1. Within Windows you can project it to the second screen only which will make the screen on the X8 go black. AFAIK it's not possible to make the screen go black in Android if it's connected to the TV.

      2. I don't have access to one, so I can't say for sure, but it looks fine in this video.

  • can usb port take 2TB external hard drive?

    • Yes.

    • FYI watch out for if you leave the drive plugged in. Mine automatically tries to boot from the external drive if I leave it plugged in.

  • Hi rep,

Wanna confirm the screen resolution. According to online reviews, the resolution is 1280x800 instead of 1024x600 like in your post?

    • You're right, it is 1280x800. PIPO hasn't updated their page yet.

  • Hmm, Running this at 180* Rotate would make this an AMAZING car pc….. I should order a couple.

  • Just ordered a couple via paypal.
AU$139.50 each delivered using the 'discount coupon' and DHL is a shipping option for 3-5 day delivery at no extra cost :)

    • DHL Delivery cost me $8.90

      • Same here. DHL shows $8.9 to me

        • Might be because OP ordered "a couple"

    • did you log in?
to get the coupon discount i needed to register.
      Maybe that was the difference?
or possibly as MasterScythe states, i got two.

  • Hi rep,

There are so many Air mouse on the site.

Can you recommend me a couple of good ones which work well with this device?

    • The MX3 and Mele F10-PRO are good apparently, but any wired/wireless keyboard/mouse would do. I personally use the Logitech K400R on my PIPO.

@kizmas: The only power I have is to send a message to someone who works for Geekbuying on Facebook. I'm Australian, I live in Australia and I am not an employee of Geekbuying.

  • Awesome, will go perfectly with a double sided document scanner I recently bought as part of a "paperless home" solution (i.e. when bills/letters come in, scan them in to store on a server/cloud, then shred the originals)

    • Hi helmutiffe, care to share which scanner you bought and thoughts on it. I'm in the market for one. Thanks.

      • It is a Brother DS-720d. I can't say anything bad about it, the most awesome things are

        • it can scan both sides in one pass,
        • you can scan longer-than-A4 receipts (e.g. big Bunnings receipts and what not) without any messing around
        • batch scanning is simple as there's a GO button on the scanner you press repeatedly, no need to click on the computer to set up the next scan

I did a staticice.com.au search on the model to find the best price at the time, which from memory was just under $200 plus shipping.

The other option was to buy a desktop document scanner with a proper sheet feeder (there were quite a few of these on eBay when I checked, I'm guessing a large organisation recently disposed of a pallet worth of ex-lease stock), but those aren't at all portable like this one is.

My wife loves it.. she's gone from having 5 huge boxes of unsorted paperwork to a nicely organised Dropbox folder of receipts and letters :)

        • Thanks - was looking more along the lines of a desktop scanner like Canon DR-C225W. Yes - I have a lot to scan!

        • @shagaroo: Check out the Canon ScanFront series. I picked one up for a song as it was missing the output tray and had a slightly-loose network socket. You can get them used for US$275 ($57 ship), or about AUD$2,400 new.

The biggest reason why I love it is the speed, the large touchscreen preview LCD, and it being able to save directly to a network share. No software needs to be running on any computer, and the scanner can be installed anywhere at home if you plug it in to a wifi bridge.

I have mine set up so if I want to scan something, I load the sheets of paper or small receipts in, tap the touchscreen to wake it up, and tap the preset shortcut.

The scanner will duplex-scan everything, perform OCR, and save it as a PDF to my NAS which automatically syncs it to Google Drive. I can then access everything on any computer or my phone right away.

        • @eug: Thanks. Will definitely look at this.

  • Shame it doesn't have an internal battery. Would make a good coffee table device. Any room inside for a power bank?

  • I'll call desklet to this.

  • OP or anyone can kindly confirm and I will buy one depending on:

    1. How much Disk space is left is available for use on windows bootup please, given windows update take up so much space?
    2. Is there a way for me to delete the Android bit to save space in the Tiny 32gb, as I really don't need it only want it for Windows boot?
    3. Is it even possible to get just windows version without mucking about as I don't want to delete Android OS and crash the whole unit

Thanks in advance for any feedback, cheers!

    • +1

Mine had around 10GB left on the Windows partition. It should be possible to remove Android though I haven't tried as yet.

      • Interesting to know it's 10GB left for Windows. AFAIK, a clean full Windows 8.1 usually takes up to about 16GB.

Can you tell me how much space left for Android partition?

Do you know can Windows and Android applications be installed on MicroSD card?

Any Custom Roms or Android rooting available?

        Thanks,

      • Thanks Frostee, 10Gb is not a lot left after the windows update and a few program installation program we would be out of space as I dont think you can install programs on the microSD would be perfect of it is 64GB!

    • You could easily delete the Android partitions in Disk Management on Windows 8.1, but I really have no idea what kind of impact that will have. However there are a few posts on freaktab.com that mention removing Android from the PIPO X7s.

At this stage, I'm not aware of a Windows only version.

      • Thanks Clear for your reply. I bought this device with MX3 Air mouse yesterday (although I also have a wireless MS all-in-one media keyboard)

  • Has anyone recived it yet, did it come with AU power adapter?

    • Just received mine. It comes with a US plug adaptor and an Australian converter.

Quite impressed with the unit. It feels well-built. The screen could be brighter but is fine. The Windows partition comes with 9.57GB free out of 15.6GB.

      • Weird maybe I was just unlucky, mine didn't have the au converter

        • The converter wasn't in the box, it was wrapped into the bubble wrap. Maybe it's still there?

Interestingly, the wifi MAC address is different on Android and Windows.

        • @eug: ahh thanks but mine was box only, luckily they are sending me an adapter hopefully

    nice day
    Simon

Paid $104USD +$6USD DHL Shipment on 18 June and the order is still not dispatched due to some f***g error in their website and they want me to pay another $12USD for dont know what?????

Cant you see i have already paid DHL Shipping fee as per described on your website at the time of order. This is so unprofessional and i am really very disappointed.
Good Luck to all who have bought this from them.

    • I was quite surprised they originally charged $6 for DHL. Seemed a bit cheap.

      • +1

But whatever the reason behind this, they should not hold my shipment and honor the fee that i paid for DHL as the mistake (if there is any) was at their end not mine.

        • +1

Yeah since it's their fault it'd be nice if they waived the extra charge. If a ton of people were affected then maybe they wouldn't be able to absorb the loss, but so far no one else has mentioned it. US$12 is cheap for some possible future OzB goodwill :)

  • Just found my adapter….. funny i must of had a "bloke" look first time.lol
Anyway the pins can be bent to fit AU socket using gentle force on the pins as you twist, without breaking the plug pack.

mine arrived a couple of days ago (Monday) via DHL, at no extra cost :)…most impressed.

Screen resolution is great, sharp etc.

Now to find a use for it…….

    • The adapter can be a hit or a miss sometimes unfortunately, but I've found that a power pack for a WD External HDD fits and works fine.

  • I've been looking at these as geekbuying have it listed at US$104 at the moment and the above code still works for an extra $2 off. I'm still struggling to find a use case for a battery-less unit with a screen. The OzB part of my brain wants me to buy it and figure it out later but the logical side says, 'I don't get what this thing is for?'. How are people using this? @helmutiffe, I get the plugging in a scanner but I already have a PC for that. Every scenario I think of is covered by either our iPad, Macbook or desktop PC.

    • Think of it as getting a cheaper version of the PIPO X7s, but with a faster CPU and a screen. You can connect it to a monitor and not even use the screen if you don't want to.

For me personally, it's an inconspicuous way of browsing reddit without looking at my phone while at work. It's a lot easier to hide than having it on one of the monitors. It also comes in handy if I'm working on a device and I can watch a video while I'm doing it without constantly looking up at my screens.

    • Think of it like this, the screen is basically unecessary though I personally find it useful. To the best of my knowledge the only reason Pipo put a screen on it was to take advantage of Microsoft's subsidized licensing costs for 'tablets' of screen size less than 9 inches. http://www.pcworld.com/article/2139080/microsoft-makes-windo…

  • How do you actually turn the screen off? Is the only option to change screen settings in windows to display on the 2nd screen only?
Thinking of using as a TV box next to the TV but dont want to have to faff with display settings every time it boots - i know you can create a shortcut to implement the screen settings but again, this is a bit of a faff.

any other solutions people have come with? i having the screen is useful

    • +1

In Windows 8.1 when you press Windows + P there is an option called "Second Screen Only". That'll turn the Pipo's screen off and show content on the 2nd monitor.

  • Thanks for the quick response.

So the steps would be boot the PIPO while connected to the TV, when booted press Windows +P on the pipo.
I was hoping to have something a that automatically did this so that the kids/Mrs would not have trouble.

    Is there a 64GB version?

    • You'd only need to do it once. It would remember it from then onwards.

As far as I know there isn't a 64GB version.

      • OK - cool so connect and do it once and then if i leave the set up as it, on a reboot it would always default to TV?

        appreciate the input

        • Yep. It's just like having multiple monitors setup. My PC extends onto 3 screens by default and I don't need to change it each time I reboot.
