  • decent deal.. for 18v and aeg.. and also radio .. which i never understand why tradies want a radio for…

    • +1

do you actually not know why they would want a radio or is there some kind of sarcasm i'm missing?

      • +2

someone who has never actually been on a building site obviously…

        • +1

I think he's wondering, if you want to listen to something, why do it on a radio powered by drill batteries, instead of
a)an mp3 player/ipod/ any phone made in the last 5 years
          b)a pocket radio
c)a dedicated radio or 'boombox', the kind that runs on D cell batteries that everyone seemed to have in the 90s

    • step one: set up radio on site
step two: find secure/ safe place to put lunch box
step three: walk around site, sing to the music
step four: smoko time! sit down, eat and continue to listen to music

    • +1

home users don't have a clue, tradies get it.

    • +1

Its mostly gimmicky.. its really just an added bonus which costs the company almost nothing to make

      • +1

And they are probably hoping it ties up a battery so you'd buy an extra one…

It's the same as the torches they bundle.
I have much better brighter torches that don't need a 18v drill battery to run.

Isn't there site power 90% of the time anyway?

  • If they swap the radio for something useful, I might be interested….

  • What do you need to be a trade member? Just an ABN?

Must show Crack at Trade Counter

  • Good deal, is there a specific link for the deal? the link only takes me to the $299 deal. Cheers

    • Sorry have no link. recieved an email today.

      • +1

I received the email 2 weeks ago. I doubt there will be any stock left!

    • when you pay in store you scan your powerpass card then you get the discounted price.

      • What is the general discount on items with the power pass card?
Is it around the 10% mark?

        • +2

I get 5% off most items, except clearance items.

Very good price for the kit, having bought this myself last week. Great trade quality tools for near Ozito prices. I was told this offer is valid till 30th June.

A word of advice for those who have purchased or will purchase, register it online (on AEG website) and you receive 6 years product warranty and 3 years battery warranty.

    • are these brushless?

      • From memory — this is not brushless. Comes with soft bag, not hard case.

Also it's a HAMMER drill, not just a plain drill which is useful at times.

I've had AEG batteries go dead as well, so make sure you register them for the full three years.

        • I got the Makita 2pc brushless kit with 3Ah batteries and case for $399, however I paid just over $210

        • @Logical:
          Do tell more.
          Apprentice special or Pub special?

        • @Steptoe: :-) Pub special! ;-)

        • I bought a non-brushless Makita set from an apprentice on site many years ago after he had trashed it for a few years and it served me perfectly until I misplaced it recently. I used it around the house and on my car.

I got a contractor that works for me to buy me this AEG kit yesterday and I'm pretty happy with it for the price.

If I had a Makita Impact Driver still going well after probably 3 years of abuse and 4 years of light work without needing to change the brushes, I'm pretty sure this kit will be fine in the long run too.

  • Wont let me have a powerpass card
Bstards dont seem to understand that there are more trades out there than just builder, plumber and electrician.

    • what work do you do?

      • hmm

      • Shipwright

    • I am a home handyman :P

      • so you have trade certificate/license?

        • Most certainly

        • +3

@Davros: leading an army of killer robots (who can't climb stairs) is not a trade.

        • @altomic: Points at atomic, EXTERMINATE

        • +2

          Don't need a certificate/license to get a powerpass.

        • @bamzero: They told me house building trades only

        • @Davros:

          Houseboat?

  • +1

That's a radio? Looks like it can be taken to war and survive.

    • +2

Looks like it just needs a "FRONT TOWARD ENEMY" stamped across it.

  • Great deal! Shame I already got the ryobi set.

  • I would prefer a hard case than a radio.

BTW, that radio is not 240V. It uses one of the batteries to run so then your drill only has one battery.

  • Any Apprentice here in Melb? I am happy to pay $50 for someone to grab a Makita Combo for me?
