Just about the only thing I could find that wasn't inflated in price after yesterday's 'everything' sale. A decent price for these. I've got one controlling my coffee machine at home and have been happy with it.

I've got one, it's utter junk. Most of the time iPad, Android phone won't connect to the switch and can't find it. I've always had issue with it. The app is awful too, I'd avoid.

    • Thanks for the tip… Was about to but it.

        oooh, that sounds painful..

    • I have one too, it works fine however……

The wemo app is utter junk. The app's by MikeP work fine: https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=MikeP

Message me if you want to sell your switch cheap ! :)

    • Unfortunately this is also what I heard when researching these things. Sounds like no one has done it "right" yet.

  • thanks .. bought one

It's pretty fussy with Wifi, unless you have nigh on zero security settings! Soif you're paranoid, give it a miss, if you're cool with free 'n easy, then it'll probably work pretty well for you.

I'm confused. How do you have it controlling your coffee machine. I assume all it's able to do is turn the outlet on and off. If your appliance needs anything more to be done to it (like a button pushed) it's completely useless.
I can see it working for a lamp or radio or something, but that's about it.

It'd likely be a drip filter coffee machine. They also work a treat on electric blankets.

    • I use one on a Rancilio Silvia coffee machine and it works great. Can turn it on from bed to warm up and ready to go when I get to the kitchen :)

      • True, I can see a benefit of it warming a machine up so it's ready to go when you get there.
Here I am hand grinding coffee and plunging it myself like a chump…

      • You stay in bed for 25-40 minutes before you actually get up? If so, more power to you, but I can't do it myself. I use a timed switch to turn my machine on in the mornings 40 minutes before my alarm, so that when I get out of the shower it is ready to pull shots.

      • I do exactly the same thing with my Rocket (it's a coffee machine for those not in the know)! By the time I've showered, the machine's ready to go. There's been quite a few occasions where I've been out and about and fired up the machine on approach to home, so I can crank out an espresso or two when I walk in the door. Works for me.

      • i got this. just need to shout from bed to kitchen to switch it on….

You know what, it didn't occur to me to control my coffee machine using a WeMo switch and now I'm intrigued. /shakes_fist

  • Switch is a good deal. Unfortunately all the other Wemo stuff is currently overpriced on the DS website.

FYI, it took a while to update all the firmware, but my Wemo gear (Lights and switches) works fine.

  • i would recommand this, got this for $15 when i was in china.

That looks really good, what is the software like?

      • pretty basic atm, just on/off + timer at this stage. but can integrate more with their camera/lighting stuff

Can you do anything like turn things off when my mobile disconnects from my wifi?

Or if I bought 5 of them is there one button I can press as I leave the house to turn everything off?

        • @daveaus:

Yeah really wanting to find more of these kind of products which work well, the technology should well be there by now but no one is doing it "right" yet.

        • @daveaus: yes,
1, you can have a button on the homescreen as shortcut to turn all off/on
2, also do you suggest base on wifi ssid connection, so it knows when you leave wifi ssid -> set action.

their camera is not bad either, $30 do similar as a $200 dropcam does, when these is motion -> you can turn on the power socket.

        • @hamwhisperer: i was waiting for google IOT, but Nest make them too costly.

    • Yeah more info please, Xiaomi seems to make ok stuff. Can you do it from OUTSIDE the house?
Does it require being on the SAME network?
      Is there a desktop software?
Does it "phone home" to Xiaomi (I think the Belkin Wemo crap does exactly that, it's not a direct connection, but through a service, kinda.. not cool / privacy / long term viabiliy if they go out of business)

      Cheers.

      • -yup can use it anywhere have internet
-i don't think there is any desktop app
-it use the xiaomi server to do udp hole punching, your video are point to point(not going via xiaomi). i did a packet capture on my wireless connection.

just bought myself a few more to use as security camera/home automation..

  • The unit is ok. Its only issue is when they update the app it can have problems. I simply turn off the automatic app updates.
